He looked fantastic in those last few games but it was only a few games. Granted if his career progresses onwards and upwards we could get £15m + for him but there's a long way to go for that to happen. Something in the region of £8-9m would really have me thinking.

True. There have been plenty of young players to burst onto the PL scene, only to fade into obscurity. Jones could easily become one of them. Every player has his price, and I reckon approx £10m (plus add-ons, sell-on fee) would be very tempting.

£14 million?!

I'm a big fan of Jones don't get me wrong but I'd bite their hands off for £14m.

Smalling was £8m, not £14m (though I don't know about appearance clauses etc). Using your logic Chris Samba cost £500k, so we should be thinking about selling Jones for about the same?

That's not using his logic though is it? He clearly said "similar experience from mid table clubs" which didn't apply to Samba who was rotting in the reserves at Hertha.

This must be just paper talk. They have Bassong, Woodgate, King, Dawson , Kaboul and Corluka all who can play there.

Why would they spend another £5million + on a centre back.

However if they did want him i would at least wont a few mill plus one of their fringe players ie Bently Keane Jenas thrown in the mix aswell.

I'm afraid Hell would freeze over before Bentley would come back to us with his tail between his legs. I'd love it but it will never never happen.

This deal is one major pain in the butt.

The agent who says he has Assulin as a client claims he is in Israel and awaiting a 'minor' operation.

And yet another agent has lined him up to be at Rovers today.

I don't think he has shown up...and the way this is heading it sounds like one to avoid.

Heres a question to all the mature members of the board (aka old moany gits :D ), what was it like before agents were around? Did deals get done quicker without all the fuss or do the deals get complicated due to the amount of money now involved with the game these days?

You'd have thought players would be able to organise their own lives rather than have people messing around with their heads/careers. Maybe players should get paid per brain cell, we might actually be able to afford most players then :lol:

Well, a mate of mine signed for Burnley years ago, Bob Lord sat facing him and said, we'll give you £160.000 a week, a Turkey at Christmas and a win Bonus of £20.00.

Bob Lord then removed his hearing aid and passed over the contract to sign, yes, much faster!!

It took me several reads to pick that up as £160, and not £160,000! At least I get it now.

I think Brian Clough put it best about agents, he said that if Shankley asked a player to sign and he said talk to my agent, Shankley would have cracked him in the nose and I would have held him still. :lol:

Harry was probably asked outright what he thought of Phil Jones. Harry says yeah yeah, he looks like a good young player, journo on a deadline turns it into four sentences of anonymous Football Spy fodder and cashes his £75. Nothing in it at all.

Hmmm, it was a joke to try and panic a few people that Jones had signed for Spurs. Didn't really work to be honest. I know he signed the contract extension in May. Thanks for the handy link though :glare:

For what it's worth, I can't see Jones leaving any time soon, and certainly not to go to Spurs. First team football and his supported club - should be enough of a draw for him to stay for the next few years at least.

did you watch Damned United yesterday? Brian Clough signed players on their doorstep.....without the chairmans consent! Maybe a tactic Big Sam could employ..... :-)
