Here in the US; ESPN/ABC has Martin Tyler, Ian Darke, Derek Rae and Adrian Healey as the lead-announcers (commentators). They are supplemented by Efan Ekoku, Robbie Mustoe, Ally McCoist and former U.S. captain John Harkes as color analysts (summarizers) .

ESPN journalist Bob Ley, Ruud Gullit and Alexi Lalas are the studio hosts.

We're currently being treated to having Mick McCarthy - the man with the most boring voice in the world - co-commentating.

Having seen a couple games on each now, BBC still have better commentary, but I'm liking Adrian Chiles presenting on ITV.

Rubbish commentary for Al Jazeera. All second rate, best of them is Rob Hawthorne and that says alot.

I wish we had Martin Tyler, or some of the BBC ones. They dont make them like they used to.

However, in the studio so far we have had El Tel, Ray Wilkins, Ali Benarbia, Gus Poyet, Craig Brown, and Peter "Im falling asleep" Reid.

Not really bbc or itv's fault but I think the TV coverage is pretty annoying. How many replays of things do they need to show? Do we really need to see Capello's reaction to every thing that flimmin happens?

ITV are truly abysmal, the lowest of the low, patronising trash. If they aren't cutting to ad-breaks every five seconds, they're exposing us to some of the worst pundits available. Gareth Southgate? Really? That's the best they could do? And now they have the creme de la creme Marcel Desailly, who takes forever to say nothing. Oh, and don't forget the hot property Adrian Chiles, who was suited to the low-key MOTD2, but sadly not the pretentious ITV Sport.

I thought you had Andy Gray, too?

I like Adrian Chiles, but Clive Tyldsley and Andy Townsend are ____. The former talks a lot, but says nothing, whilst the latter is just rubbish. All they'd need to make it worse are a bunch of those annoying US commentators who just shout at you and show their complete lack of knowledge. Of anything.

I hate Mick McCarthy. Unbelievably awful analysis, annoying, depressing.

BBC seem to have done a decent enough job, although I am getting hacked off with Hansen - he was never exactly loveable but he seems to have achieved a new level of smugness. He also seems to have stopped bothering to be insightful. Time for a change on MOTD next season.

Not seen him yet Charles, nor Julie Foudy :( .

However, you can add Chris Fowler, Mike Tirico & Bananaman to the list.

You think maybe there's a reason why ESPN hired those listed above (in the first post) to call the matches for broadcast here in the states? :D

No Tommy Smythe in sight and I hope he never turns up, the silly sod.

Klinsmann was on yesterday, I thought he did well. The USA also has Steve McManaman (not very good) and Ricardo Martinez (not bad).

Am I the only person who needs subtitles to understand what Emanuel Adebayor is saying? I think I pick up maybe one word in three. He's definitely the worst on BBC, but it's pleasing not to see Lawro on the BBC couch and even Hansen doesn't seem to be slurring his way through his usual predictable tripe. Best ones on the BBC are Lee Dixon and Jurgen Klinsmann, but Guy Mowbray's commentary is truly dire - peppered with factual errors and talks utter lobbocks throughout. It's not the same without Motty. BBC radio is also hit and miss and yesterday I heard a woman commentating! Absolutely awful.

ITV is the woeful low-brow tosh we have come to know loathe over the years. Andy Townend's ability to spout pointless drivel is unbounded and unequalled but when backed up by the incomprehensible mutterings of Edgar Davids and bland musings of Gareth gargoyle Southgate and Adrian sodding Chiles it makes the presentation element virtually unwatchable. I'm just waiting to see ITV cover a Portugal game to hear Clive Tydlesley in full verbal masturbation overdrive every time slack-jawed, giraffe-necked, greasy-haired diving cheat Cristiano Ronaldo touches the ball. If only Big Ron could have kept his culturally insensitive ranting to himself we might have a little light relief.

How I long for the days of Brian Clough and Jack Charlton on the World Cup Panel. Big Jack was pure class. He used to deliberately mispronounce Germany's Horst Hrubesch's surname as "Rubbish" and along with Clough he'd not pull his punches when saying what he was thinking.

Must say that I've enjoyed listening to our old boy Roy on the BBC panel. Always had a soft spot for him but you hear about many players saying he's the best and most knowledgable manager they've ever worked with - you can see why. Very intelligent guy. Hope to see more of him in this World Cup.

You're quite right but I remember him commentating on one of our games possibly in the intertoto cup a few years ago and he seemed like a senile old man with no clue back then, he didnt even seem to know who Tugay was.

I was amazed when he went to Fulham and even more so with how brilliantly he's done, all credit to him.

BBC

Best -

Alan Hansen

Clarence Seedorf

Mick McCarthy (Speaks his mind, at least)

Worst -

Adebayor (Can anyone understand him?)

Shearer (Zzzzzz...)

Klinsmann ("Beckenbaur should watch more PL games?" ...What?)

ITV

Best -

Tiny Streaker during the ad-breaks.

Worst -

Everyone else (with special mention to the narcotic Edgar Davids)

Mark Lawrenson was probably at his most irritating today. If the game wasn't such a big match then I probably would have muted the TV. I've never heard anyone try and make so many unfunny jokes during such an important match in my life. Extremely annoying!

Example:

Lawrenson: 'It's called tackling, Guy'

Mowbray: 'I'm with you'

Lawrenson: 'I've noticed

Wahey, badaboom tish
