roversfan99 Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 He can't really do anything very well. He's brave I guess. He thinks he can pass better than he really can, which leads him to losing possession a lot. We're a stronger team without him. Problem is though that, like Roberts and Zurab, we're going to be stuck with him until the end of his contract. I thought him and Linganzi were solid today. He isnt a bad player, hes good at winning the ball and moving it on, although his injuries have sadly almost ruined his career here.
rebelmswar Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I thought Ole Jay Ro had 5 goals from all competitions last season. Well he is over half way there after one full game and a sub appearance. I suppose I am just happy to have a striker score some goals.
Fife Rover Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Can anyone who actually went confirm that the noises after Mame scored were "Diooooouf" rather than boos? Some idiot United fan on Twitter is claiming we're ungrateful and racist. They claim they were told by Rovers fans that they were boos. I can't confirm that they were not booing tonight as I was not there, but I can confirm that when Mame came on as a sub in the Everton game I also thought they were booing him and I said to the guy next to me in the JW Upper "just listen to those fools on the BBE booing him because he is a Utd player" I now realise that they were just shouting "Diooooooooooooooof" but it most certainly does sound like booing when heard from a distance. I just hope that the players realise what it actually is.
Backroom Tom Posted August 24, 2010 Backroom Posted August 24, 2010 Grella sprayed some great balls to tbe flanks then at one stage played the worst ball in the history of football, a random hoof from halfway. Agree on emerton being poor, one instance was linganzi and hoilett played a beautiful overlapping move then junior rolled it across the box and emerton tried a silly flick instead of taking a touch. Its funny sitting next to the dugout listening to what the managers have to say, Neil Mc likes to swear.

Plastic Head Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 The biggest positive for me tonight was not Diouf but Lingers. He seems to have grown over the summer and looked ready for the Prem to me. Don't like to labour the point but if Keith is getting in the team ahead of him something is seriously wrong. The negative was Hoilett who again was awful. Bring on the Arse It defintely does sound like booing, but we've been doing it to EH Diouf for a couple of years! No that was actually booing for him.

I really do wonder if I watch the same games as people sometimes.

Hoilett didnt do himself any favours tonight when its games like this he should be shining in yet he isnt. Linganzi looks to be a very useful player, still needs time to develop and grow into the Rovers first team but yeah, more positive than negative.
Backroom Tom Posted August 24, 2010 Backroom Posted August 24, 2010 Hoilett was frustrating in the first half but as soon as he got his head down they couldn't handle in. I thought he did brilliant for the second goal. As for linganzi I'd certainly have him before Andrews and maybe Grella and Jones in a midfield role next to Nzonzi yet he wasn't on the bench on Saturday. What does Sam do on Saturday now, Kalinic has started in good form but you can't drop the hattrick hero. Also I don't want to sound nasty but did anyone see the Josh Morris piece at HT? Maybe his voice hasn't broke yet but he sounded very effeminate. Blonde morten indeed!
RevidgeBlue Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Have to put my hands up and admit I didn't go tonight, I simply didn't fancy wasting an evening watching a repeat of the PNE debacle with no strikers on the pitch. Delighted Diouf started, and even more so that he scored three goals. Looking at Hughesey's clip he'll never score an easier hattrick but much of the art of being a good striker is being in the right place at the right time - so hopefully he'll gain a lot of confidence from that. Diouf should start now on Saturday for me. His confidence will be high and it would be very harsh indeed to drop him having notched a hat trick.
Grabbi Graeme Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 QUIZ TIME: What was unusual about the Norwich team until the No. 23 came on as a sub? They all wore black boots? They all had white boots on at the start, can't remember what colour boots no 23 had on.
Backroom Tom Posted August 24, 2010 Backroom Posted August 24, 2010 A point about Diouf it may look like an easy hattrick but its worth noting he notched a hattrick in his reserve debut for united. Now the standard of opposition doesn't compare to what he will face in the league but it would suggest he has a knack of getting into the right positions to score.

You could see that the way he got in the end of the sublime cross from Gamst. Not to mention reactions when he got the one off the bar.
RoyRover Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I'm delighted with the win and it's great to see Diouf bag a hat-trick. Hopefully he will get more game time now. He will come up against better opposition but it's a good start. He seems to have a lot going for him; size, speed and ability to finish. Hopefully there are plenty more to come. Any links to the goals?

sparky12 Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 well i have to disagree with most people on here!! i thought emo had a decent match epspecially in the first half, some of the balls he played and the crosses he put in were fantastic!!! except for peds to set up mame i dont think anyone else put a good cross in (not including emo) he was the key to most of the good passing football we played tonight!!
Paul Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 They all had white boots on at the start, can't remember what colour boots no 23 had on. Correct, No. 23 had black boots. I think they all wore the same style / brand which is very unusual. Perhaps the club have a sponsorship deal?
Iceman Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I watched the highlights, forget Diouf and Mgp, Mark Bunn was solid. I would hope that is the end of Jason Brown, as i would think Franky would be 3rd choice. If we get Popov in, then i would be happy with Benjani.
MarkBRFC71 Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Definitely not. He's our best midfielder when fit. He's just never fit. I really do wonder if I watch the same games as people sometimes. Agreed. When Grella plays, we play much better football. He's the best holding player we've got - but injuries have blighted his time with us.

Dont be kicking off if we do well in the cup and you cant get a ticket for a big game in the later stages. I cant beleive you didnt go on the strength of how we approached a pre season friendly It was a good solid performance by the Rovers, Peds was awesome, Diouf strong and promising, Grella looked good and amazingly didn't get injured, Bert did well and looks like he's back to full match fitness and Bunn did well in goal. At the end of the day the lads did well against an average Championship side, but this could easily have been a banana skin for Rovers, so well done lads. Another home tie against a championship side please! Can anyone who actually went confirm that the noises after Mame scored were "Diooooouf" rather than boos? Some idiot United fan on Twitter is claiming we're ungrateful and racist. They claim they were told by Rovers fans that they were boos. I don't think there were any boo's aimed at Diouf last night but there was at the Everton game. I had a quiet word with the lad next to me who was booing, he said 'Diouf is Manc scum' and that he deserved to be booed, I just explained that whilst he is wearing our shirt he is one of us so get behind him!
CrazyIvan Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I had tickets and had planned to go but sinusitis and chest infection put that plan out of action just like me. Still, buying the tickets means I am more likely to get priority if we progress to the final this time. I'd love to see us there again.
philipl Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 unluckymorton, seems you met vinjay!!! On the clip Hughsey posted, it is definitely Diouf and not boo that is being shouted.
