HemelRover Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Chris Samba is the New Rovers Club Captain. http://www.rovers.co.uk/page/Home Very interesting. This, added to Nelsens comments from the other day about getting to a stage in his career when he just wants the club to do well and that he was happy to play reserve games if it means better players are in the 1st team, means that in a 4 man back 4 Givet and Jones are expected to play more than the Admiral?
sambo Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Definitely means Sam is no longer seeing Nelsen as a dead cert for the team, with the resurgence of Jones, and maybe at some point Hanley.
matt4self45 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Chris Samba is the New Rovers Club Captain. http://www.rovers.co.uk/page/Home Can't help but feel a bit sorry for Nelson on this one. My prediction now would be that Nelson may not always be a 1st teamer this year and Jones will be playing a considerable role throughout the season.
liam Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Agree but its time to pass the baton samba will be a quality captain
Hughesy Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 FANTASTIC news.....we can all see Nelsen struggled at points last season, so it makes it easier to drop if necessary. It will also allow Sam to give Jones as much game time as he wants. Also shows to Samba how important he is to us.
Mr. E Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Hopefully this will help deter some interest from Samba too. As for who will start between Nelsen/Jones...I'm not sure, but both will get their chance if/when we get some injuries in that department.
Bobby G Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Depends which Nelsen we are talking about. If its the one from the WC, then he should be a definite starter. But congrats to Samba.
RevidgeBlue Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Nice accolade for Samba, by far our most valuable performer imo. I would have thought that if we expect to keep hold of Jones for very long he'll need to be a fixture in the first team alongside Samba before the season is out. You wouldn't wish to have better or more experienced cover than Nelsen though.
67splitscreen Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Is he club or team Captain, the headline just says follow..... leader I don't have the rovers player.
Mc Love Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Wow didnt think Ryan would be giving up the captains armband after a good WC
joshbrfc Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Definitely the right choice! He's a natural leader and ###### beast Good stuff!
philipl Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I know it is not 1 September yet but for those saying we are having an awful transfer window, I was 90% sure we would lose Samba this summer. Well done to the big man on getting the club captaincy- I doubt there will be any dissent in the ranks! This also opens the door for Phil Jones to make a huge impact this season which I believe he will.
Backroom Tom Posted August 13, 2010 Backroom Posted August 13, 2010 I would prefer Nelsen to be club captain and Samba team captain. Nelsen is an inspiration and should be a role model to younger players.
EnglishChris Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Can't see this pleasing RIML at all Also the link didn't work for me
USRoverME Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Wow didnt think Ryan would be giving up the captains armband after a good WC Still, Nelsen giving up the armband without a strop is the definition of a captain and a leader... to do what needs doing in the interest of teh team above self.
67splitscreen Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I would prefer Nelsen to be club captain and Samba team captain. Nelsen is an inspiration and should be a role model to younger players. So has Samba replaced Nelsen as club captain.
thenodrog Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Very interesting. This, added to Nelsens comments from the other day about getting to a stage in his career when he just wants the club to do well and that he was happy to play reserve games if it means better players are in the 1st team, means that in a 4 man back 4 Givet and Jones are expected to play more than the Admiral? I'd think it initially means that Samba is expected to play more than Nelsen. The clock is ticking loudly for Ryan.
Andy Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I would prefer Nelsen to be club captain and Samba team captain. Nelsen is an inspiration and should be a role model to younger players. This is how I understand what has happened. Nelsen stays as club captain, but Samba appointed as team captain.
Backroom Tom Posted August 13, 2010 Backroom Posted August 13, 2010 Ah right, ideal scenario in that case. I didn't read the article just went off the thread title
92er Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 This is how I understand what has happened. Nelsen stays as club captain, but Samba appointed as team captain. This is exactly what Allardyce said on Radio Lancs today.
SergioPeter89 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 How does that work? Who will wear the armband?
thenodrog Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 How does that work? Who will wear the armband? Captain of the team of course.
American Rover12 Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Captain of the club of course. Fixed it.
The Rover of Finland Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Big Chris starts always when fit. Admiral will have to fight against Jonesy. The captain should always start matches so this is a good choice. Samba played magnificent season end when young rookie played next to him. And he always gives his best.
