den Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Tried adaware again last night but it takes around 3 hrs to scan. Reading reviews about it confirm that as a problem.

Glenn Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I favour MalwareBytes these days http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Backroom DE. Posted August 18, 2010 Backroom Posted August 18, 2010 Agree with Glenn, MalwareBytes is a very good scanner. You also might want to look at: Spybot: Search and Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/ Super Anti-Spyware - http://www.superantispyware.com/ very good despite the name Spyware Blaster - http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html A combo of these should get you sorted.

I'll try the superantispyware as well. Thanks to both of you.
StaffsRover Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Microsoft Security Essentials all the way. Anti-virus and spyware combined into one, free to download, runs nicely in the background with auto-update and, being produced my Microsoft passes the 'fit and proper' test we expect Mr Ali to pass soon!! Doesn't work well with other anti-viruses so use this as your soul provider and remove all others.
Glenn Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 No AV products work well together (because of the way the live scanners work) and yes, two thumbs up from me for Microsoft Security Essentials as an AV scanner (it's now my default choice over both AVG and Kaspersky) although I'm not convinced it's a good an in-depth malware scanner as MalwareBytes, but it's perfectly good for most people.
joshbrfc Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 If you want anything like that, go here - http://ninite.com/ It download and installs it for you, so you don't get any of the crappy adware or whatever.
Glenn Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 ninite is ace, but it does nothing to stop you getting malware. It just means you don't get the yukky additional crap the PC manufactures are paid to install by default.
ownagesbot Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Spybot is a very popular one, I don't like it though. I think my personal favourite was Spy Sweeper but I think you have to pay for it nowadays. A good free virus scanner (not spyware but it picks up alot of spyware) is AVG Free. Hope you sort whatever problems you got!
