skysports have just said Popovs work permit turned down, so the transfer will not be ratified today by the FA - surely if this is the case we could appeal to the Home Office and still push through if the paperwork waS SUBMITTED IN TIME ?

Only if your name is Harry Redknapp. Don't shout at me - it's the law.

Litex's website (and this thread) broke it more than 12 hours ago. And LT has already denied it :)

Litex's website said he had signed last week, LET denied anything had happened at all. Neither strike me ax particularly reliable news sources, SSN would have got their info from the FA who have to ratify these deals.

It also makes me feel a little better that we did actually try and sign him.

Don't make me laugh.

SSN will have stumbled across the Litex site via a forum like this, and then stuck 'Sky Sources understand' before the story.

The only silver lining to this whole thing is that there are more than 3 clubs worse than us. Either way, we go out of this window with one of the top 7 or so defenses in the league.

Yes. In perspective we do actually have quite a good squad which is much better than this time last year due to the emergence of Olsson, Nzonzi and Jones, and M Diouf being a much better player than DI Santo from what I have seen so far. Also Kalinic is stronger and fitter which is a bonus. Also E H Diouf looks a million times better than last year.

Only substantial loss is McCarthy and he looks like he would have offered nothing by now anyway seeing what happened at WH. Benjani is a bit of an unknown - has been good on his day but those days seem to be getting rarer.

On the face of it we should be able to get through to Jan with a similar level of performance to last year. Crucial that the youngsters continue to perform, and a huge bonus would be if Linganzi can step up as he looks to have the technical skills to improve our passing game. If Grella can stay fit (fingers crossed....) that is also a big gain.

Absolutely terrible window in terms of transfers, but luckily we have a developing squad which papers over the cracks somewhat.

I know I will be accused of unduly bright outlook but the current squad came 6th in the table for the second half of last season.

Every time anything like that has happened in the past, we were immediately stripped of our best players- Duff, Bellamy, Bentley, Santa Cruz.

No "ins" are disappointing but my goodness I am relieved that there are no "outs".

Just logged on and read this and all I can say it that thats proper babyhouse behaviour. Your mother obviously spoilt you as a child. I'd imagine there are many such posts on previous pages.

Just as an aside deryck.... How much money have you spent on BRFC this season? Alternatively if I told you to that 20,000 supporters were having a whip around to provide 10m for one new player and his wages for 3 years (Popov) and that everybody had to chuck in £500 each..... then would you?

The history books will show that for 20 years one Blackburn family has carried this tiny town club forward and against all previous trends by initially sponsoring and latterly subsidising Premier league football a modern ground and top level training facilities as well you know. If it's been decided that enoughs enough in what is now a crazy and suicidal business which only dodgy or dirty foreign money can support, and that they cannot or do not want to continue then the party's over and it's time for everyone to move on then so bloody what? The plain fact is that nowadays billionaires have replaced mere millionaires.

This clubs been for sale for ages. Having to put up and provide for jumped up footballers along with their odious and unscrupulous agents most head to toe in bling must be like having a millstone made of compressed sewage sludge permanently fixed around ones neck.

I think we can safely paraphrase Alan Sugar's decade old assessment that only an 'idiot with a death wish' would put money into Premier league football. I can only think of the Glazers who have made real money out of INVESTING  in a Prem club and thats only been possible by loading that club with a billion pounds worth of debt. Is that the type of owner and future of the club that you want?

Nine tenths of the development you are talking about occurred when Jack was alive and there's some right babyhouse talk in the rest of your post. Since Jack died we have gone backwards and this Transfer Window has been a disgrace. You can dress it up with sentimental talk about "carrying this tiny town forward for 20 years" (cue the Hovis ad) but thats the truth of it. And "No" I wasn't spoilt as a child.

If you truly believe that Sky receive all their information direct from the FA then yes, silly you.

Oh your a darlin arn't you.....

Might be more likely that they realised little Blackburn have done naff all in the window so we better scour the internet to try and find a scrap of a suggestion that they tried to sign someone?

I suppose that fits your mindset better, are you the anti-hughesy???

Whilst the removal of deadweight is great, do we actually have 25 senior players to name for the squad? Is there any indication that we might chase some free agents today and register them before the deadline, players like perhaps Gai Assulin?

On that topic does anyone have a list of players that would still be available despite the window being closed?

Your first paragraph is disgusting Theno.

As for your continued points about "the family" carrying this club for 20 years, it's about time someone pointed you in the right direction. "The family" haven't carried BRFC - Jack Walker did. "The family" didn't make money from Walker Steel - Jack Walker did. "The family" would never have got involved with BRFC in the first place. It was Jack Walkers money and he did what he saw fit. He left the trustees with guidance as to how he wanted things to continue in his absence, so arguing that "the family" have every right to withdraw their support is misleading people. The trustees own and run the club, and should do so to JW's wishes. End of.

Is it hellaslike disgusting Den. I could be a lot more disgusting. If you object to that then no wonder you used to whinge so much when you were a mod.

btw

1. Remind me again what Fred Walkers role was in Walker steel?

2. No one knows the details of the trust except those who need to, but I'd wager that the first consideration is the families future before BRFC.

Good post Den!

Good post ada. I bet you can even manage joined up writing.

If he was coming here to have kids with his wife and do no work he would have been allowed straight in. Maybe even with a free house for him

Seems to me Gord that you can get away with saying whatever you like to people. You're a law unto yourself on here at the moment.

Am I the anti-Hughesy?

Well, I have a brain and an ounce of level headed perspective if that's what it equates to.

And what you've written is far more likely to be the case, as anyone with half a cell would realise.

clubs below us are buying world superstars, it gets harder to compete. Before this transfer window Sunderland were one club I was confident about us beating, now not so much.

World Superstars is abit strong dont you think?? Fading decent players is more like it....

Gudjohsen....decent but ageing and also means they lost Kitson at the same time

Pennant....He's been in spain for 18 months - cant have set the world alight there then!

As for Sunderland - Gyan replaces the injured Campbell....but it doesnt fix their awful defence!

The best signing in this window is probably Hleb to Brum on loan - thats one which would have made a BIG difference if he stays clear of injury!

Don't make me laugh.

Sad but true....Sky sources means random chatter or any old website.

For sure :xmas:

The money JW made from Walker steel, was Jack Walker's, not the families.

Only as far as the taxman was concerned I'd imagine, hence the exile to Jersey. ;) But I must admit that I don't know for certain and am just speculating.... as I suspect you are.

People seem to forget how much money Sunderland have spent under Bruce. £9m for Craig Gordon anyone? This is not the first window the teams around us have outspent us, yet we still manage to hold our own. Hopefully though it will be the last.

If there was ever any doubt that the club needed new investment, then it has finally been put to bed with this transfer window. We had a transfer budget equivalent to an average Premiership wage and as far as I'm aware we didn't even spend it. If that's all we had to spend, then that's all we had to spend. There should be no surprise that the trustees didn't make any more money available. They've been wanting to get rid of us for years and even if there wasn't a potential takeover on the horizon, they still wouldn't have been willing to invest anymore money for players. It does make it more difficult for us to survive in this league when the teams at our level are splashing the cash. Birmingham were able to add Hleb and Jiranek to their squad. Sunderland spent a lot of money on Gyan. While Stoke dropped a huge amount on Kenwyne Jones and added Gudjohnson to the team. The need for investment has become more crucial than ever, because we can't go on looking to survive on a transfer budget of £2.5 million, while the teams around us can strengthen whenever they need too.

Just to correct you..... Quinns tenure. Roy Keane was manager when they bought Gordon.
