PAFELL Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Nicko can I ask is it true we are looking at adebayor? Any person with sight can look in a shop window, but not everybody can go in and buy what they see. His hieght would make him good for Rovers. But I would prefer a bentley type player to get the best out of Kalinic - that boy has an eye for goal. He just needs the right pass and a decent player beside him, or just in support.

JAL Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Isn't Greening just a worse version of Pedersen? Jeez .... Greening isnt fit to lace Pedersens boots. These rumours dont show big Sam Allardyce in a good light, what after Benjani and Beattie.

I've booked myself in for a weeks comedy training as it would appear I suck at it.

What I don't get is that we keep getting linked to PL players past their sell-by date: Beattie, Benjani, Greening. How about we pluck a young player from the French 2nd division? I know that sounds sarcastic, but I would choose that everytime over these underwhelming, stop-gap targets.

The only reason why that would excite you would be because it's worked in the past for us. But the only reason why it's worked in the past is because we've found players that have both been rated low enough for us to snap up for peanuts and with little competition, but also because we've found players good enough. If our scouts haven't found players good enough then I would be against them just signing some player from the French lower leagues for the sake of it.

One thing is, its definitely not good either short or long term for Blackburn Rovers football club. Just hope the manager isnt getting himself into a comfort zone, as all the hard work is still ahead of him.

Anyway, in my opinion, the risk of signing a young, unproven player will always take precedence over PL over-30 cast-offs. If said youngster hits the ground running, his stock will rise alarmingly in a short space of time, whereas the latter has no resale value and will look for a tasty payrise. Now if both flop, which is more than likely, where do we make the biggest loss? Anyway, it's circular logic to say that because we haven't signed a talented young striker there isn't one available. There are plenty of young hopefuls out there, and some of them just need a platform to really prove themselves. I don't remember Nzonzi being highly sought after, because I doubt we'd have snapped him up otherwise.
Roberto Policano Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Adebayor is being linked with a £20m move to Real Madrid Bobby. Real Madrid in for Dzeko like i said yesterday Havn't Inter Milan offered £20,000,000 for him...?.. Nope. Sculli(no Mulder though),Antonelli or Kuyt or even a little Argie could turn up in Milan this week though. West Ham are loaning Alessandro Diamanti to Brescia last i heard,so surprised the City fella never signed there.
Messi422 Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Nicko, some sources said Popov will be signed on Monday. Is it true?
Wilko Rover Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Where have these Adebayor rumors come from by the way? :/
chaddyrovers Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Thanks for coming back nicko I agree. great to have you back. the MB isn't the same without your updates! Keep up the good work!!! ignore the people who take the ****. some people are like that!!!
John Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Is this one of the quietest summer transfer windows for a while, generally not a lot of deals happening?
chaddyrovers Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Nicko, some sources said Popov will be signed on Monday. Is it true? where have you heard it from?
MikeB Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Nicko - could you please advise if you have anything for an 11 o'clocker otherwise I'm off to bed for an early start tomorrow !
Messi422 Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 where have you heard it from? lol, I don't know if anyone even cares anymore, but another rumor suggests that Litex really want Popov to play his final game for the club next week in the 2nd leg vs Debrecen, and so the transfer has only been delayed for a week. So Rovers can't officially admit a deal has been agreed, otherwise he won't be allowed to play in that game. http://sportline.bg/news/67539/ Yea, I saw that, there was another story that he will be officially announced on Monday, again from a Bulgarian site. Probably garbage http://www.brfcs.co.uk/mb/index.php/topic/23419-ivelin-popov/page__st__100 Here
1864roverite Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Nice to have you back scribing Alan. Whats your take on the Villa v Newcastle score ? No doubt you will be getting your fill of stories asnd snippets as we enter the last week of the tx window but I have to say I was a litrtle disappointed at a lack of Rovers news in the SP !!
bluebruce Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Jo is still available and as nobody has bought him that could always be an option - in some shape or size. Nicko, what ever happened with Jo? You said we were in for him and next thing we know, we have bloody Benjani training with us instead. What was the problem? Are we still interested in Jo?
Backroom Tom Posted August 22, 2010 Backroom Posted August 22, 2010 I think the telegraph has been decent with regards to rovers recently and fairly on the Mark but I do wonder if the mystery bids was either fed from the club to appease the fans or otherwise untrue as a name was never put to it. Is the deadline a boring tea time one this year? I prefer the midnight ones and hoping against reason that something will happen. Jo and popov would be my targets of choice right now would give us good options
Tim Southampton Rover Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Let's hope Big Sam doesn't go back in for Colin Kazim-Richards. He was linked with us during the last transfer window before joining the French club on loan.
Hughesy Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Said it last summer & today just confirmed what I was saying....When Newcastle wanted shut of Barton we should have snapped their hands off! How good was Carrol today too - wasnt he linked with us just after his bust up?
Tim Southampton Rover Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 I would have said the opposite after their game against Man Utd
mickbrown Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Nicko, one of the west ham fans who frequents the board believed that the caicedo deal fell through as they are getting ferrera on loan from Chelsea so they had used their domestic loans as ben haim is also on loan. No idea if it's true or not. But we really should be all over the caicedo deal. Caicedo's agent was demanding a substantial payment to make the deal happen.
Kelbo Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 For those of you old enough to remember Alan Clarke of Leeds, 30 goal a season man for a few years, he got his goals because of abn unsung hero called Mick Jones, a big target man who worked his ###### off and created so many opportunities for him, a player like Mick Jones would be great for Rovers!! Actually, a bit like Kevin Davies!!!!!!!! But a bit better.
