POPOV - got to say it's significant that he hasn't played today...Litex Lovech think they have a deal...by the way that story was broken by the Bulgarians as you would expect when their skipper and star man comes to Blackburn and thunks he has a move...

ROBERTS - Rovers want £1 million and he is on £33,000-a-week basic...ludicrous.

QUIET WINDOW - not really the case elsewhere, but the worst in Rovers memory...one loan signing...Diouf, which I should point out was a story broken by Sir Alex Ferguson...Teymourian came and went as did many others...the 'business as usual' period a while back seriously damaged your chances here...you will sign a striker and a midfielder before the window shuts but nobody could say for sure who that would be mainly because the club has no clear idea itself...Benjani is not just a 'last dance at the disco' job more a 'desperate grab at the taxi rank' case as he could sign AFTER the window shuts because he is a free...just checked his arrival was first revealed in an 11 o'clocker on May 21...must be slipping...

ADEBAYOR - will be playing beside David Beckham.

For those of you old enough to remember Alan Clarke of Leeds, 30 goal a season man for a few years, he got his goals because of abn unsung hero called Mick Jones, a big target man who worked his ###### off and created so many opportunities for him, a player like Mick Jones would be great for Rovers!!

Actually, a bit like Kevin Davies!!!!!!!!

But a bit better.

Someone like Emile Heskey then... :P

Fair point, however, Jones was far more prolific than Davies and vastly underrated.

If Rovers are to play 4-5-1, we need another striker in the Kalinic mould - if he can play in 'the hole' as well then so much better! (me thinks we are talking far too much money).

Mick Jones was five times the player Heskey is, tougher and worked harder, one of the most underated players in British football.

Heskey has played 62 times for England so that makes Heskey much better!

Could we actually sign Benjani after the window shuts Nicko? I mean in terms of the 25 man squad registration etc!

I'm under the impression that we couldn't play him unless he's registered before the squad deadline because he's over 21 years old. If, however, we sign a player aged 21 and under then he is eligible to play for us because he wouldn't need to be registered.

Roberts on 33K? wasn't he our 3rd choice striker when we signed him/gave him a new contract?

Guys, I've made this point before and think it's a weakness with JW - negotiations seem one sided in the players' favour. Just like Andrews, Grella etc, we VASTLY overpay 3rd raters and that's why we can't shift them.

Not suprised by that - perhaps his wage will help other people on here understand the figures some of our lads get.

Shame QPR didnt offer him the extra year he wanted

Seems that's a Rovers trademark (ie. Segundo Castillo).

Now that is an interesting point...you would have to have a clear space left...although I wonder if this whole 25-man squad thing is legally enforceable when it comes to it.

The reason 'free agents' can join clubs outside windows is because they cannpt be denied the right to work.

And yet a 25-man squad does deny people the right to work.

You may just have created a monster with that.

ludicrous as in what? it's too much?

when's the last time a 1st team (or nearly first team) Premiership striker, who despite his faults brings a lot of energy and power to the team, went for under 1 million?

To be fair, it was what was needed to get him to sign...at the time.

It is way too much. You have a player who does not have a squad number and is bombed out totally.

But you want a silly fee for him.

And if you don't get it he will be paid £33k-a-week for sitting on his ass.

The game has gone mad. You don't have exclusive rights on that kind of stupidity, but the fee is stopping him leaving.

We'll end up giving Roberts a free before the window shuts.

At least it will save 33k a week.

I wish it was that easy. He is owed around £1.2m in wages for the last nine months of his deal. How much of that will he want before he goes...don't blame him either.

Now that has me worried. I always bought the picture of Rovers as a very tidy and organized club who wouldn't go into big debt and always put the safety of the club before transfer gambles, but now it seems we just pay average players huge wages and therefore have no money to buy for.

Said it last summer & today just confirmed what I was saying....When Newcastle wanted shut of Barton we should have snapped their hands off!

How good was Carrol today too - wasnt he linked with us just after his bust up?

You have to put Newcastle's performance in the right context though. Villa looked like relegation no-hopers, once the pen was missed and Newcastle scored they played without any spirit whatsoever. The MON factor I assume.

Average players on huge wages is a fact of the premier league and not soley down to Rovers mis management. We have to have a premier league standard squad. Either we pay big wages for these players or we get poorer players.

We have to pay such wages because of the competitive market, ie. if we dont pay 30k+ a week then Stoke/Brum will.

Is Roberts worth 30k a week? Of course he's not, but we needed a 2nd/3rd choice striker at the time and those are the wages of a premier league striker. The fact that he's useless is obviously a shame.

Jason Roberts earns more than David Cameron

The guy that runs the country earns less than a guy who could'nt hit a cows arse with a banjo

Obviously that news doesnt come as a shock as it would be common knowledge but it certainly makes me laugh and puts things in a strange perspective.

That's exactly the reason. We get £40m in tv money every season. Where do you think it all goes?

Good point. The thing is, I had convinced myself we didn't play that game to the same extent as the rest does. I thought we bought players like Roberts since they would take lower wages than other players, due to them just not being that good. That little utopia seems quite shattered after the revelations of the last two seasons (the Salgado/Warnock deal, Pedersen, Khizanishvilli, Roberts...)
