budha Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Not suprised by that - perhaps his wage will help other people on here understand the figures some of our lads get. And you're still sticking to Pedersen not getting "anywhere near £40k/w" with Roberts allegedly on £33k/w and Zurab £30k/w?

Hughesy Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 And you're still sticking to Pedersen not getting "anywhere near £40k/w" with Roberts allegedly on £33k/w and Zurab £30k/w? The figure in question was £50k, which no he is on nothing near (basic), and isnt on as much as £40k (basic) either.
Blue blood Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Thats no issue, Roberts owes rovers at least £3,000,000 in lost place money for all his "sitter misses" over the years. Out of curiosity though what will happen if we can't shift him? Will Sam make him part of the squad or will he rot in the ressies? You know this makes Roberts leaching 30K a week off us all the more galling. I know he tries and all that, but to squander the chances that he does for 30k a week is beyond belief. I'd like to think if someone was paying me that much, I might just feel motivated enough to improve my finishing. Personally if we don't shift him Sam has to have him as part of the squad - we need the numbers up front at the very least, and at least that way he can contribute something for his overinflated wages. I've a suspicion though he'll go on loan to a championship club in the loan window, with rovers having to subsidise his wages. Not ideal, but some saving is better than nothing. Indeed, but wasn't his contract then improved under Ince when he would at best have been 3rd choice? Another brilliant Ince decision. How one man can leave such a scar on a club in such a short time is unbelievable.

Not Ince fault this one totaly John Williams Im afraid he does the contracts at ewood the manager just makes a recomendation then williams sorts out the contrats.

William's backs the manager. Manager wants to keep Roberts on then Williams gets the contract set up. £30k a week for a premiership striker is what you'd expect to pay. Roberts is not a premiership standard striker, but if Ince thought so then Williams would have had little choice but to offer those wages. The fact is that even average players clearly are paid too much. Thats a premier league problem not exclusively a Rovers issue.

I really dont want to know what Andrews earns or I think I may go into paanic mode, anything over £10,000 would be a total joke!! And he isnt even worth that!!
Craigman Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Sam hoping to sign Popov, and maybe Benjani. Also doesn't want to business after this Friday.

Iceman Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Sam hoping to sign Popov, and maybe Benjani. Also doesn't want to business after this Friday. he doesn’t want to make mistakes, but then he still wants to have a look at Benjani. However, if Benjani is fit, and shown in training that he is prepared to fight for a contract, and Sam thinks he deserves something, then fine, but as long as somebody else comes in.
Amo Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 but then you end up in a situation we in now where williams is strugling to back the manager and cant get rid of the players due to high wages and long contracts. Basically, the club should have a tighter structure in place to avoid this situation.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted August 23, 2010 Moderation Lead Posted August 23, 2010 Basically, the club should have a tighter structure in place to avoid this situation. In an ideal world yes, but then if we struggle to attract players as it is-could you imagine what it would be like if it was worse? Though our wages to turnover is ludicrously high and some players are stealing a living (at present, and always for Keef)-Zurab,Keith,Jase- we're hardly as bad as City- Wayne Bridge- £90k p/w and he doesn't even play, £65k p/w to Bellamy who doesn't even play there! Things could be worse
BuckyRover Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 I really don't understand what the problem is. He is a striker playing in the Premiership, being paid a Premiership wage, just like everybody else.

Things could be worse Comparing us to Man. City is absurd. For the time being, they can afford to pay silly money, even to squad players. For Rovers, however, every penny counts, and can make the vital difference being signing a new player and not.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted August 23, 2010 Moderation Lead Posted August 23, 2010 Comparing us to Man. City is absurd. For the time being, they can afford to pay silly money, even to squad players. For Rovers, however, every penny counts, and can make the vital difference being signing a new player and not. It's not really directly relevant but acting as a parameter, showing that over-paying players guarantees nothing. If any of their players were at other clubs do you think they'd be getting anywhere near that amount of money? Man City have ruined the market in terms of transfer fees and wages- Yaya Toure £200k p/w-he's done very little in the game to suggest that amount of payment, that's almost twice what Messi/Villa are on....
Hughesy Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Basically, the club should have a tighter structure in place to avoid this situation. Its already a very tight structure....but success brings a demand, and unless you want unhappy players or people leaving for cheap then you have to try and meet that demand. Had our wage structure been any tighter then the likes of Benni or Santa Cruz would not have been possible. Reid is a good example - had a storming season. (success/ demand)...Spurs made an official bid, United asked about him....we give him a bumper new contract because everything looked rosy, next thing he's injured yet sat on £35k a week. Similar has happened with Jones (not long left so fine) & NZonzi (for me 1/2 - 1 season too soon).
G Somerset Rover Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 I know it's probably been mentioned loads, but when does the transfer window shut? I can't seem to find anything on the net.
G Somerset Rover Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Cheers Kamy. Last chance at the dance it is.
Iceman Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 6pm on 31st August. when does it switch over to the the 1st of the new month? Would the transfer window shut, if the 31st was on a Sunday? If that makes sense..
Guest Kamy100 Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 I think that if the 31st falls on a Sunday or even the weekend then it switches to Monday. This is the first time that when the 31st has been on a working day that the window will shut at 6pm rather than midnight!
doctorryan Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 ise Not if you go back to the origins of the word, along with Oxford. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxford_spelling ise Not in the states though, its 'ize' That's hilarious. When I saw that quote I had no idea what that guy was on about. I was googling "ise" to see if there was some new catch-acronym that I was unaware of.
Andy Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Quite interesting on the players' salaries - I've heard (direct from the club) that the salaries are nowhere near what is generally believed in the tabloid press. Reading between the lines of what I've been told, I've always thought that our top earners would be on no more than £25k to £30k per week, and they were pretty much the exceptions. Would be interesting to know what the truth is...
