RoverRich Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 So Nicko, what's the situation with Roberts? You say he needs to go before we can think about getting the mystery striker in but is he any closer to getting his move?

Amo Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Because the younger cheaper alternative will gain far more from playing regular football (the purpose of loaning him out) than he will from sitting on our bench. If we need a backup that will spend most of his time getting splinters in his arse then it makes sense to ensure that said backup is as cheap as possible and not someone we're trying to develop. I beg to differ. With such limited forward options, it's possible Blackman could get "the call" sooner than you think. Any PL experience he can garner will be light years ahead of playing in Scotland. And at least Blackman could be relied upon, with Benjani's injury record he would be missing more than not. And before anyone says "if he passes Sam's tests etc." don't, because we all know that doesn't mean much. This just feels like such a pointless exercise. Benjani is a workhorse, and very powerful. If Benjani was any kind of horse, he'd have been sent to the knacker's yard.
Iceman Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Let it be Luca Toni or Miroslav Klose Well another guess would be Eden Hazzard Grafite Vagner Love Cacau Brandao Kevin Kuranyi come one, any of those will do for now
alexanders Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 First guess on Mystery Man: Tchité? Spanish season hasnt started yet.
alexanders Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Ill go with Obinna. Obinna agrees deal with Wham
neophox Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 In Borås newspaper here in Sweden it was exclusive that Blackburn and Bologna were interested in Denni Avdic of Elfsborg. There will be a host of spyes tonight against Napoli in Europa League for sure.
rebelmswar Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Foreign player, foreign club. Could it be an American knee specialist? Can see Benji running bowlegged down the pitch, pieces of metal flying off, to the cheers of "Run Benji, RUN!" EDIT Found it, Alan you are so sneaky with your word puns. My link

Grafite - Is topscorer at Wolfsburg ?? No chance we are going for him. Vagner Love - Plays for CSKA Moscow and his salary is huge proberly Cacau - Suttgart do proberly not want to lose him Brandao - hmm i do not think he want leave the coast of Marseille Kevin Kurany - Left Schalke 04 for a big check in russia
RevidgeBlue Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I made a joking comment on here a couple of months ago that we would scour the length and breadth of the globe all summer for a striker and end up with Benjani on loan at a couple of minutes before the deadline. It will be a disgrace if all we end up with is a loanee and Benjani. What do we do next summer when we're down to one credible striker? (If there isn't a takeover) I'd rather go until January with two strikers than waste 13-18 k p.w or whatever it may be on Benjani. As regards bids for other players, if we offered something remotely approaching what the selling Club wanted then we might have a chance of actually completing a signing rather than it being a complete waste of everyone's time and effort. Was it rumoured on here for example that we wanted Reo Coker for 1m and Villa wanted 5m? That's a "bid" but it's never in danger of happening is it?
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I corrected your post for you. Surely no-one still believes the marketing nonsense incessantly pedalled by Sky? La Liga is the best quality-wise, the Bundesliga the best value, most fan-centric and competitive. Premier League? The best for average players to earn lots of money! "La Liga is the best quality-wise" At least we probably have four clubs with a chance of winning the title - La Liga you can't look beyond Barca and Real Madrid.

Any PL experience he can garner will be light years ahead of playing in Scotland. If this is the case then why does just about every Premiership manager loan out their young players to lower/weaker league teams?

Andy Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Whats the point of a MYSTERY STRIKER if other clubs are already supposedly after him? It's not like revealing who he is will suddenly alert other clubs. Quite a wide berth, meaning whoever we do sign, whoever came up with the MYSTERY STRIKER can claim that's who they were talking about in the first place
T4E Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Because a lot of them can afford to? We're nigh on the most skint yet we do it.
Amo Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 We're nigh on the most skint yet we do it. This is my point. Loan out them out if you have proven strikers, but putting Benjani ahead of Blackman shows you what's wrong with this country. Clubs would rather sign a foreign, 30-something, with dodgy knees than give a chance to raw youth.
T4E Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 .....and again, loaning Blackman out instead of leaving him to rot on our bench is investing more in him. Most young English players experience the same thing.

rebelmswar Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 .....and again, loaning Blackman out instead of leaving him to rot on our bench is investing more in him. Most young English players experience the same thing. Sam obviously hates our youth products, those two that play pretty regularly now are proof of that. It is criminal of him to wish to loan out, and develop a player, when he should be throwing him in atn the deep end. Madness Sam, madness. If you weren’t English you would have had the sack.
PAFELL Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 What a massive backward step this will be for Rovers. JW and the board ###### all the money up against the wall and this is what we are left with, a loanee from Man U who we'd never be able to afford and a not fit for purpose migrant. DAMAGING ! I suppose the club could take a forward step and put up the price of match / season tickets up in line with other clubs. Maybe this would satisfy the whingers on here, who appear not to understand basic accounts. If there is no money because the club has reduced prices of tickets, spent other funds on wages, and generaly running of the club. How can you or anybody expect Rovers to splash cash they do not have. Other people set the transfer fees and the wages as well as the agents their price. The club has to compete with not just other clubs in the transfer market who can pay more. But with robbers in the game who charge / demand the pathetic amounts of money for sales and wage etc in todays game. The reality is, that until things change, Rovers have to shop and make do with whatever they can get in the basement market. Pointless complaining or throwing dolly out of the window. As in all ways of life you make do and get on with what you have. If you can improve, great. If not get on with it. That is life.
Amo Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 .....and again, loaning Blackman out instead of leaving him to rot on our bench is investing more in him. Most young English players experience the same thing. We're going around in circles. What's the point of signing Benjani if he's only going to keep the bench warm? I doubt that, anyway, otherwise we wouldn't be looking at him. And say we DO need him and, uh oh, he's out with a knee injury? It's like Nicko said, if Benjani really was a good, cheap option, why is no one else bothering? Sam obviously hates our youth products, those two that play pretty regularly now are proof of that. It is criminal of him to wish to loan out, and develop a player, when he should be throwing him in atn the deep end. So...you've contradicted yourself in one post? Because Nzonzi & Jones were both thrown into the deep end and have become first team regulars. They weren't sent out on loan to the lower echelons.
