unluckymorton Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Good points but a blind man on a galloping horse can see that we do desperately need to replace David Dunn. Dunny looked like a 60yr old on Saturday, Tuncay could be a realistic last minute move to replace him.
ada2020 Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Theno, John Williams said the benni money, £2.5 million by all accounts, would be available. I understand we don't make a great deal of money, but this is another example of the club moving the goal posts again. Utter disgrace.
unluckymorton Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Very short term thinking that imo. Like I said, we could be down to one permanent striker in twelve months time and can we even be absolutely certain that Diouf won't be recalled in January? We could also sign a couple of quality strikers in January. We've a good squad that will keep us mid table. For those who want to get into the Europa this season and for those few who still think we should be pushing for Champions League football we are far from ready. We are a mid table club in a stronger position than many of our rivals. It could be far worse, we could have Steve Bruce as manager throwing every penny made available at below parr players.
S15 Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Theno, John Williams said the benni money, £2.5 million by all accounts, would be available. I understand we don't make a great deal of money, but this is another example of the club moving the goal posts again. Utter disgrace. Yawn yawn yawn. It's us that made up this £2.5m figure, and the reality is we probably got closer to £1m for the fat lump rising depending on targets he will never reach. So, the money probably is available, but you can buy sod all for that amount.
RevidgeBlue Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Tuncay could be a realistic last minute move to replace him. Apart from the fact we wouldn't be able to afford the fee for him, nor his wages, yes.
Eddie Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 ...and that he doesn't really solve any of the problems that we have in our team.
Hughesy Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Theno, John Williams said the benni money, £2.5 million by all accounts, would be available. I understand we don't make a great deal of money, but this is another example of the club moving the goal posts again. Utter disgrace. WHO has said the money ISNT available???? It probably is - but when you take wages into account (Say £30k for a decent player), you need more than £2.5m to sign a player on say a 3 year deal! A contract on £30k a week is over £1.5m a year alone!!

The 2.5m figure is probably fairly accurate but I suspect that doesn't get you very much these days in terms of Premiership quality strikers either.
unluckymorton Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Apart from the fact we wouldn't be able to afford the fee for him, nor his wages, yes. There you have it RB, you have answered all your posts with regards to signing players. We can not afford to sign the players we need. Therefore we will do our best with what we have got and knuckle down to another tough season in the top flight.
unluckymorton Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Well, it gets you Benni McCarthy... If we signed another one of those we couldn't afford to feed him.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Keep in mind the money may have been used to offer new contracts to existing players, Pedersen, Jones, N'Zonzi, Hanley? All signed new contracts this summer. Most of them probably will have had a pay increase.
Kelbo Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 WHO has said the money ISNT available???? ada2020 Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Hughesy you talk some cack at times, as others have pointed out he earnt a wage already, probably very close the 30k you stated will pay for a good player. Granted £2.5 doesn't buy a lot these days, however Popov is available for that by all accounts, and nicko has already stated that elfsborg were looking for a similar fee for the swedish lad, can't remember his name of the top if my head.

I am off to hide under the kitchen table. Someone tell me when it is 6-o-clock.
gumboots Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I am off to hide under the kitchen table. Someone tell me when it is 6-o-clock. Could I get to Malta in that time or will you have your laptop with you?
Jamesw1982 Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Santa cruz will end up at liverpool i reckon If we are going to get anybody it will be popov or advic but dont hold ya breath lads
Bobby G Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 No way will we go for Roque or he for us after the divorce.
Balwer Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Would love for one of Avdic or Popov to come today but not holding my breath. Popov would be the preference as he seems capable of filling the Dunn type role, whereas Avdic sounds like a pure striker. Would love to get both but history has tempered my enthusiasm somewhat. Hopefully a Roberts deal gets sorted out quickly but somehow I doubt it. Who knew Di Santo would come back to haunt us again?
Al Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Stop trying to make excuses for the tight trustees. They said that the Benni cash plus the extra place money was availible for transfer fees. Benni and Reid ect. were paid wages and it is disgraceful that they will not release the money now for at least Popov. They do it every year. They lie to us until we buy our season tickets then break their promises. I would buy mine anyway but I hate being lied to. It's like pre election promises. Disgraceful.
Amo Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I'm looking forward to page upon page of mindless speculation based on random BBC rumours. Let's face it, we're not going to sign anyone. Repeat... We're not going to sign anyone.
