Earlier today though you did say there was now no excuse not to make a signing now zurab left on loan.

That was because he, like everyone else, expected us to. Now we haven't he's moved to his default position - blindly behind everything the club/manager says or does. ;)

Disappointing... we needed to strengthen, but I don't think Popov or the Swede would have made much difference. Guess we're going to have to hope the signings other clubs have made don't click, and that we're not in too much trouble come January so that Syed (praying he takes over) can give us some much needed funds to buy some overpriced players.

When I heard about our lack of activity on the transfer market I came to this thread fearing that several posters hereabouts might be suicidal...........

After reading the gibberish posted by so many I find myself praying that several will pluck up the courage............. <_<:wstu:

Now that the window has closed, I will reiterate what I said earlier.

The line about not being able to afford wages is nonsense, complete nonsense.

http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/blackburnrovers/news/8212646.Q_A_with_Blackburn_Rovers_chairman/

1. At the end of the season JW said that we are a trading club rather than a selling club, stating clearly that we could sustain LAST years wages THIS year without the need to sell ANYONE. Quote :we can just about maintain wage levels without the need for capital receipts.

2. He also said that Salgado was budgeted for as long as we finished 11th- we finished 10th. QUOTE: We actually budgeted to finish 13th but Sam put up a compelling case for Michel Salgado. This meant we had to re-forecast to 11th.

3. He also said that we had the Benni money available to use.

So to analyse:

We have today, MINUS

1. Reid- 30K

2. Benni- £30K

3. Di Santo- £10K

4. Elrio- £10K

PLUS

1. Mame Diouf- Nicko said that Man Utd usually pay for their own players and do not ask for wages/loan fee.

2. Benji- pay as you play.

Take into wage increases, does the above suggest to anyone that we could not fund another player?

We now also have a situation where at the end of the season we lose:

1. Zurab- £30K

2. Chimbonda- £30K

3. Jacobsen- £15K

4. Brown- £15K

5.Salgado- £40K

Thats at least £100K wages saved at the end of the season, does anyone think that we will see any of this again?

I hope that the trustees sell soon because they are slowly killing the club- by not doing anything! A frustrated man tonight.

We have lost 2 youth players who have never yet made it + a 5th choice central defender and a 3rd/ 4th choice right back......Deadwood - we dont need them, so why keep them & let them earn money here?

One minute people moan that the club pay out too much to non playing/ average players, yet the next they complain because we shift them out & put the club in a better financial position.

Yes IDEALLY we would have signed a midfielder or a striker today, but we didnt - GET OVER IT! We have 4 strikers on our books still.

I doubt you and Sam would see eye to eye.

No I agree we should have signed someone with our wage space..I too am disappointed by that...

My point is that the players we have lost - WILL NOT weaken us as they are not used anyway! Just a shame we couldnt shift Brown with them!

WE ARE IN A WEAKER POSITION BECAUSE OUR RIVALS HAVE STRENGTHENED AND WE HAVEN'T.

Repeat that a few times and see if you manage to get it.

Same old, same old.

With the lack of money we have and the calibre of player we can go for with 2.5m, I'm glad we didn't spunk it for the sake of it. Don't think we could have attracted anyone that could improve our squad that greatly.

Now back to the porn.

Dont despair, there are a large number of loan transfers where foreign players are concerned to be checked out and ratified by The Premier League. Lets hope that we do actually feature in that list. Also if we have completed any incoming foreign signings such as Popov, then there will also have to be International clearance given as well.

All isnt lost YET

I agree, the players that we've moved on would not have featured much anyway. But, given our inactivity and our nearest rivals' signing some good players we are worse off in comparative terms.

Let's write this one off, all cross our fingers that the takeover goes through, and the January window sees us making the signings and others watching in envy.

It's all very well shifting out deadwood and making a wage saving as long as you use that saving wisely to bring in players that actually contribute.

You can't say we're stronger when the deadwood has been replaced by no-one!

I think the Trustees are taking a huge gamble with our future. But then again it's been like this for several seasons, forget all this "they won't spend money when they're selling" nonsense - they won't spend money at any time.

Essentially McCarthy's eventual replacement was a crock on a twelve month deal.

We only need injuries in a couple of key positions and we are stuffed.

With deadwood you shift people out whenever you can - as soon as you get an opportunity.

Im not saying we have a stronger squad - thats obviously not the case, however we are in a stronger financial position, IF we get a takeover. Its a risk - but like you say, they seem happy to gamble on it!

A decent loan signing perhaps?

Hleb on loan would have been awesome, a completely different class of signing which would have improved our League position, increased interest in the Club and in our current financial situation would have been almost as exciting as signing Archibald and Ardilles many years ago.

Sadly there doesn't seem to be the slightestshred of ambition or foresight at Boardroom/ownership level at the Club at the moment.

Answer this Shilito - who could we have signed today with our £2m that would have improved us against our rivals??

Nzonzi cost £400K last year, there are bargains to be had.

Popov and The Swede could have improved our squad, we were haggling over £500K, we were offering £1.5 million and they wanted £2 million, could this not have been completed?
