Doaksie Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 It's pigeon English, but an interesting line from this article: Blackburn FC and negotiate personal terms Ivelin Popov Ivelin Popov has been in Blackburn, but not to pass tests. National was subject only to the fitness test, which lasted an hour and a half.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Pretty happy about this signing as he ticks all the boxes for a player in our current budget and our way of doing business. 22 years old so there is the potential for a profit if he performs well. Looking at his wiki he looks a versatile player as he can play on the wing, as an AMC or as a Trequartista/second striker (could provide some decent competition for Dunny- or play that role when he breaks down). Last season he scored 8 goals in 19 games so it looks like he does chip in with goals as well. Looks like he has some International experience as well with 3 goals in 16 appearances. On paper it looks a decent signing. Welcome to the club Ivelin!
LeChuck Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Really looking forward to seeing this lad play. Done some research and it sounds like he can play any of the attacking midfield positions, but is most comfortable on the right or in the centre. If he can bring us goals from the right (or centre in Dunn's absence), then he will bring something we desperately miss. Hopefully his goalscoring instinct will mean we get more support to Kalinic too.
Mr. E Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 As a Bulgarian myself, this is extra exciting...I think he's the first Bulgarian to play for Rovers.
1864roverite Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Until the club announce it I wouldnt take it as being a done deal.
Ricky Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Mr E, as a Bulgarian can you tell us a bit more about him.
Mr. E Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Mr E, as a Bulgarian can you tell us a bit more about him. from the transfers thread: and yeah, this is pretty good news if this is true. He is probably the best Bulgarian in the Bulgarian league, which isn't saying much, but at 22 years old and for only 2 million, this can turn out to be another great signing. I don't know how long it will take him to get adapted to the Premiership, as it really is a huge switch, but he has all the tools to be as good as Martin or Stilyan Petrov. On one hand he might be exactly what we need...an attacking playmaker who is a good leader and can play on the right wing or in a more forward position. He can create and score goals. The only question is how long before he is ready. Might be like Kalinic and demand a bit of time, but then you have Nzonzi who settled in immediately...
67splitscreen Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 Let's hope he turns out as good as some of his countrymen in the Prem. Popescu and Petrescu spring to mind.
rebelmswar Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Noticed that he is captain of his team and is only 22.
Doaksie Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Let's hope he turns out as good as some of his countrymen in the Prem. Popescu and Petrescu spring to mind. Romanians??
Amo Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 ROVERS IN YOUNG PLAYMAKER SHOCKER? I wonder how long Sam's been looking at this guy, and whether Dunn hobbling off against Everton prompted his arrival? Either way, if this guy has signed I'm looking forward to him enhancing our forward options.
67splitscreen Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 Until the club announce it I wouldnt take it as being a done deal. I seem to remember the same comments last week with Diouf. Rovers won't put up until his work permit is in his hand. With his recent International appearances, shouldn't be a problem.

brfcshabba Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Cryer and Plunkett have said he has not signed yet. CryerRovers: Litex Lovech's website seems to be jumping the gun Im afraid. Popov has not signed yet - far from it, only arrived on trial today.
67splitscreen Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 He won't need a work permit, he's European. Quote from their web site. "Ивелин Попов се прибира в България в четвъртък за да си събере багажа и да подаде документи за издаване на английска работна виза. Ivelin Popov comes back in Bulgaria on Thursday to collect their luggage and to submit documents for a British work visa. Следващата седмица Попов ще се присъедини към Блекбърн. bazza Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Let's hope he turns out as good as some of his countrymen in the Prem. Popescu and Petrescu spring to mind. Weren't they Romanians and not Bulgars?
Doaksie Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Weren't they Romanians and not Bulgars? Are you angling for a Blue Peter badge too?
