JMillZz Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 That's because he's suspended Just shows, once again, that until a signing is reported on the official club website, it's not happened. As an aside, the LET have the better Rovers contacts out of all newspaper and red-top rags, often direct from the chairman, so I don't really understand the poo-pooing of the news they've reported. Particularly so with Popov, as it's turned out to be the most correct information on here. The LET are hardly the front runners on rovers related stories and seem to only get any relevant information (i don't count repetitive talk about a mystery striker as relevant) a day or 2 after the national papers/SSN/nicko has reported it. The LET are very much behind everything albeit I admit that when things like this are announced directly from John Williams it is a bit more like actual journalism.

USA Rover Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Who got to wiki? On 18 August 2010 it was officially announced that Ivelin Popov would play for Blackburn Rovers [3], after successfully passed the medical tests. The transfer fee is about £3 million and 20% of an eventual transfer.(citation needed) Popov is quoted as saying "I can not wait to smash Burnley, I hate them soooo much. I love all Blackburn fans, well except that Vinjay bloke..." My link
Mr. E Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 heh, well you can scratch all that it seems. I guess Bulgarian journalism standards have indeed reached the level where even a club's official website talks complete and utter nonsense.

JW: "who is this" Cryer: "Its Andy Cryer from the LT" JW: "oh, alrite" Cryer: "is Popov signing with Rovers" JW: "he is somebody we are looking at, but he has not signed yet" Cryer: "thanks John" Twitter Big Willy: "Cryer, is Popov signing?" Cryer: "no he has not signed with Rovers yet, he is one of the players we are looking at" see, thats how easy it is.

"That's because he's suspended" Keep up lad, that fact was posted last night, hence the emoticon after the comment, "he did not travel".

JW: "who is this" Cryer: "Its Andy Cryer from the LT" [Dial Tone] Cryer: "Oh... Well I suppose I will have to guess.

Well I suppose I will have to guess. I know. Why don't we all talk about a player who hasn't signed for us yet and make out as though our chairman is making things up.

Mr. E Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 what's even funnier is that the Litex website has gone as far as to delete the player from the players' profiles page.
BRFC1995 Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I'm guessing 99.99999999% of members here aren't in the know! Regardless, unfounded speculation related to rovers is my chosen specialist subject. So, the guy is/has having/had a trial/test/medical as a fact/rumour. What's the general consensus are we thinking more likely signing or not signing.
1864roverite Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I have been doing some reading about this lad and tbh, although it is based solely on other peoples views, he does seem to be a real player with a good reputation. He is adored throughout Bulgaria as a hero. If you compare this to the other Bulgars in the Premiership or world football, he out does Berbatov and Petrov by a long way. I hope he dopes sign for us because he certainly knows the way to goal.

On a similar point though, Gamst Pedersen famously beat King Harald V by coming second in a newspaper survey of the most famous people in Norway.

alexanders Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 IF we havent agreed upon a fee the Bulgarians really know how to negotiate I think many norwegians have started supporting Rovers after MGP came to the club.
Backroom Tom Posted August 19, 2010 Backroom Posted August 19, 2010 More telegraph bashing it seems when they are right it seems, how can they be ridiculed for having a direct quote from JW on the issue is beyond me. I hope he does sign though the kind of player we need
Doaksie Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Well I'm not surprised. I've never heard of King Harald V. I think he was in Neighbours?!? I should have said - Norwegian newspaper.
den Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I think he was in Neighbours?!? I should have said - Norwegian newspaper. Yeah I know. I should have added a sarcastic smilie.
Mr. E Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 apparently he has returned to Bulgaria, but declined to speak to journalists. The rumors are he did have a medical at Ewood, but failed it as they found narcotics in his system. This is becoming a comedy. A sad one.

I hope that's just some more bogus Bulgarian journalism!
philipl Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 more popping jokes? Seriously, the behaviour of Litex Lovech makes sense now. Sorry to impugn your fellow countrymen Mr E but posting the "done deal" all over their website is the way in my experience that the thought processes of business people in that part of the world work when they have a useless asset they desperately want to flog off (to a non-local).
unod Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 The deal failed . Popov is back in bulgaria, we dont know why, he'll probably play in our next match against Lokomotiv in sunday. Good Luck in PRL
Guest brianpepper Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 If it was a narcotics test the board of sports arbitration would be informed and he wouldn't be playing for anyone right? can nicko shed some light or is he absent to prove his worth?

Indeed. I notice my quip popin, popout, popov got deleted..... that had been posted for a reason yesterday! Anyway good luck to Litex and thanks for the confirmation Popov is back with you, unod. Sadly it looks like everybody everywhere are losers on this episode.

Andy Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Seems that the reports of his signing were indeed premature and proof of why JW's word is perhaps more trustworthy than any of the red-top journos
