BiggusLaddus
We didn't let Given go that easily. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure we were demanding £6m and the lower fee was set by a tribunal.

jim mk2
And Sam received a lot of abuse on here for that decision! Not from me. It was obvious that McCarthy was demotivated and had little interest in putting in the hard work required to be a professional athlete. Along with the £x millions received for Santa Cruz selling McCarthy for any fee was one of the best pieces of business at Rovers over the past few years. The mystery is why West Ham thought McCarthy could do a job for them - I sincerely hope they go down this season.
chris
difficult for McCarthy, if someone offered me 1 million now or a guarenteed 2.2 million over 18 months I think I know what I'd do. He is way past it and this is his last pay day.

m1st
Cant really believe Warnocks fall from grace. Was one of our outstanding performers. It may not have had anything to do with his form, etc. It could have something to do with his new manager at Villa, who never really rated him or gave him a decent opportunity when he managed Liverpool. In the programme for the Aston Villa game, there was a reference made to Houllier moving John Carew on when he managed Olympique Lyonnais, so I wasn't surprised to see that Carew went out on loan during this transfer window. If a manager doesn't rate you or think you'll fit in to his plans,...
Valois
Gary Neville has retired http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/9385692.stm Can't say I have ever liked him, but well done on what has been a pretty fantastic career. 602 appearances for one of the top sides in the world. Didn't realise he had 85 caps.

braddock
With regards to the Benni McCarthy fiasco, it's another reason why I don't trust this clubs fans on anything. The fact that in Benni's last days fans still sang for him to be brought on, even though he couldn't cut it, was overweight and ineffectual, yet Andrews actually gets booed before kicking a ball when his name gets read out in the starting line up shows the intelligence of some of the people who follow us. This season has led to me realising that I have no respect for many of the fans of this club.

Fans are idiots generally, well a minority, Blackburn are not the worse, not by a long way. I've never had respect for some fans. I never liked the booing Shearer. I'm not innocent though but I do think Newcastle and Liverpool fans are much worse.
Stuart
According to this if every Premier League game finished after the first goal, Rovers would be 5th behind Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool. Chelsea 6th, Spurs 14th. If we could only hold on to those 1-0 leads!
47er
Another interesting stat on Rovers, whenever we've conceded the first goal we've lost! Accounts for 9 out of 12 losses this season. Only Wolves have lost more games (think thats right--haven't checked this last one).

Backroom Tom Posted February 5, 2011 Author Backroom Share Posted February 5, 2011 Sunderland 1-0 up at Stoke already, is this good or bad for us? I suppose a draw is ideal but it depends what our targets are. Otherwise today I'm hoping Arsenal, City and United do the business for us but I fancy Newcastle to beat Arsenal

Look4Me
Immense pressure from Stoke the last half an hour (the time I watched). Got a lot of help from the ref too. The 2-2 goal was 3 free-kicks for Sunderland. Twice offside and one handball. Typical Stoke goals too.. Would have been nice if it had ended in a draw, but the look on Steve Bruce's face was almost worth it Seeing the highlights shows that the first Stoke goal was offside too. They should be happy with the ref, at least..
Backroom Tom Posted February 5, 2011 Author Backroom Share Posted February 5, 2011 Watching Stoke makes you appreciate why people disliked Rovers under Sam, their entire gameplan was crowding out the keeper, fair play to them at least it worked
