Ricky
Spot on LeChuck. It's a daft rule but it is the rule. If the ref sees it and makes a decision on it the Fa can't intervene. I was suprised that SSN made such a big deal of it as I was under the impression that no action could be taken all along. Seemed that they missed that fact completely. It is a joke rule though. Amo
Not true. It's all because of the stupid rule that the referee saw it at the time. This has always been the rule. *If it was any other player they would have been sent off. Happy?
jim mk2
Not a bad result and despite all the doom and gloom (from me included) we are only 2 points off 10th. After Saturday do you have any faith that Rovers will gain another 2 points this season ?
LeChuck
*If it was any other player they would have been sent off. Happy? That'll do! I agree with Ricky that it's a ridiculous rule. The argument is that it would undermine referees. I don't think that would be the case though, so many players are out to con them (not exactly the case here mind). They need help. ben_the_beast
He probably was, but our manager seems to be looking clueless at the wrong time. Big Sam inspires more faith than Kean in these relegation battles, and whilst before we were on the up after Ince, we appear to be free falling at the moment. Add the clueless Venkys to the mix and it gets all the more worrying. Exactly. Ince left us all furious with the shambles that was displayed on the pitch. But we weren't entering March. There was time to rectify the situation. This is going wrong at a very bad time. Other teams are picking up points where as we are not. You can tell so much from a players body language on the pitch. And right now it is only telling me one thing.
Tyrone Shoelaces
Not a bad result and despite all the doom and gloom (from me included) we are only 2 points off 10th. The way we are playing at the moment we are light years away from 10 th. I'd take 17 th now like a shot!
Neil Weaver
Spot on LeChuck. It's a daft rule but it is the rule. If the ref sees it and makes a decision on it the Fa can't intervene. I was suprised that SSN made such a big deal of it as I was under the impression that no action could be taken all along. Seemed that they missed that fact completely. It is a joke rule though. But there are sometimes exceptions. Remember Ben Thatcher on Mendes a few years ago? From The Guardian..... As the rules stand, the FA cannot intervene because the referee took action at the time. However, Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp called this morning for the game's governing body to "do something" - and an FA spokesman later admitted: "We are looking at whether this may possibly be an exceptional case and what options may exist under our disciplinary regulations." He ended up with an 8 game ban I think.

cn174
He gave a freekick, he must have seen it He might've given a free kick but he wasn't looking at the incident. He must've seen it out of the corner of his eye at best.
CrazyIvan
He might've given a free kick but he wasn't looking at the incident. He must've seen it out of the corner of his eye at best. He's said he saw the incident. Rooney could have broken the players jaw or worse. Lawro, 'Sometimes, you can't defend the indefensible'. No Lawro, you can NEVER defend the indefensible. Rooney should get a ban but won't because the ref 'saw it and dealt with it'.
LeChuck
No he didn't IMO, he blew after the crowd reaction, then put his arm around him ! That's really poor refereeing then. He has no choice but to say he's seen it after doing that, he can hardly admit to giving a free kick for something he didn't see! The FA should change that law in the summer anyway, this situation has highlighted how daft it is.

RibbleValleyRover
Clattenburg if he wanted could have put his hands up and said to the FA after reviewing the video evidence he had made a mistake so he did not deal with the situation properly – therefore the ruling on the field was incorrect and there should be some punishment. But that would have meant owning up for making a mistake, you don't see many ref's do that do you.

CAPT KAYOS
That's really poor refereeing then. And so is this CrazyIvan Rooney should get a ban but won't because the ref 'saw it and dealt with it'. Because the ref didn't deal with it - or didn't deal with it properly - so the Ref should be brought to boot regardless. As RVR posts - you don't see many ref's owning up they have done wrong - and that there should be some punishment - just shows what a whole mockery the rules are and how the goal posts get moved to suit the directives. speeeeeeedie
The Chelsea-Man U game is a cracker. Not much goal mouth action but played at blistering pace. Good goal from Rooney. The best bit is the Man U fans shouting "shoot" every time Cashley Cole gets it. The commentator also had a dig. Ekoku (on over here) was moaning about Cole taking a free kick instead of Lampard so the other bloke goes something like "Well some would say he's had some target practice this week." Rovermatt
Watched the first half of last night's game in a bar chock full of insufferably smug United supporters. It was so unpleasant I went home at half time... Pity I didn't stay.
