This is perfect Phillip, the EPL has been at the forefront of the slow destruction of the beautiful game from the lop sided income issues, to the hording of the world's talent and, more importantly from a national perspective, the reduction of talent and skill within the English footballing ranks.

This is all part of evening the playing field, no one from Sepp Blatter down wanted to make the call so now the market will take care of it for us. In the long run this is good for Rovers.

Rather easy article imo. It would have been so much better if it had been written a few years ago.

You have predicted financial troubles for MU for some time now Gunner. People who criticised you in the past for such should be apologising to you now.

As for me... MU is a business and the object of being in business is to make money for the owners. What is so wrong with what the Glasiers are doing?

Why do people get suckered in to thinking people from half way around the globe are buying EPL teams simply because they are keen supporters? I doubt the Glasiers could name the date and place where that plane came down if asked. As for these Indian chappies who the hell knows why they want in to BRFC? Personally I'm mystefied.... but I do know it's nothing to do with the football.

I'm not so sure neekoy. The erosion of the transfer market through footballers freedom of contract is not good for BRFC. Buying cheap and selling dear has been our lifeblood ever since the maximum wage was abolished in the early 60's.

I tend to disagree, the only way Rovers haven't been able to compete is due to transfer funds, we certainly pay extremely high weekly wages for the quality of player we have compared to others and I think this is due to us not being able to provide the incentives through transfer fees other clubs do.

The reduction in transfer fee activity and the new rules coming in next year for expenditure should however be tied in with compensation claims for development of talent, that way the lower league clubs and clubs such as ourselves with good to high facilities for youth will be rewarded in both the quality of youngsters coming through to play in the first team and those that are exported to other clubs.

The transfer market is in itself an economy and should be subject to the same market conditions as everything else.

I've been telling Bellamy for ages what a good player Gareth Bale is, but he wont have it.

Just scored his hat trick. 4-3.

OK so he scored a hattrick at the San Siro but I don't think he was too sharp defensively ;)

Do you think he will take Marcelo's place at Madrid? Like some reports suggest? Although, it seems Mourinho is now a fan of Marcelo.

Real are very keen,Inter the favourites though.

Redknapp likes Muntari,so £20 million + Muntari could be a go'er,especially if Tom Huddlestone joins Manchester United.

Why would it get him into trouble?

He seemed to be attacking the powers that be for coming up with a situation whereby Rooney could leave for free.

My impression was "here we go again" as I thought someone might pick him up for bringing the game into disrepute.

Coincidental that Rijkaard has quit Gala this week too.

He didn't quit he was sacked. New manager is Georgie Hagi with Tugay as his assistant. No idea how they'll go on in management but off the top of my head I cannot think of many more skilfull and naturally talented midfielders than those two. Both were a privilige to watch.

He's right. Players (and managers) contracts are not worth the paper they are written on to the club. They are just one way contracts. The agents and players are starving football at all levels in this country of money by scamming it out of clubs using blackmail tavctics to buy floating gin palaces and tasteless mansions in and around the Med. I bet Rooney, his agent and that odious slimeball Gary Cooke are having a right old laugh about it all. The obvious answer of course is to only offer short term contracts to players with strict penalties to cover premature termination.

However.....

There is a plus side to all this, and it's a big one. Whilst it might make us worse in European competition who cares? The slide of Liverpool and MU is mightily to the good for the competition of the Premier League. The constant procession of the big 4 toward the title and european places making simple cannon fodder of the rest has been monotonous and very damaging. Course the numpties in charge couldn't see it and I'd wager still can't. Neither can the assorted press and media. There has been more shyte spoken and written about MU this week than in Feb 1958. It's all being made into a national disaster with manc after manc coming on the radio in a heightened state of shock and anxiety. When are they going to realise that the vast vast vast majority of football supporters in this country are absolutely pisssing themselves at the decline of those two billy big times?!:lol:

'Manc after Manc on the radio'

you mean glory hunters from across the country?

The plastiC 'fans' of LFC and Utd are bricking it that the reflective glory that supporting such a club gives them is under threat.

Those two clubs have sucked the life out of the game in this country.

Their fans have an outrageous sense of entitlement and the media are as upset as they are at the thought of their declining status.

I'd rather Liverpool and Man Utd at the top than City and Chelsea.

Why? United' have been a disaster for any semblance of competition over two decades.

Without the Glazers, United would have been out of sight, their domination would NEVER have ended.

I hope they fall and fall hard.

Yes but there was also something to admire about United, albeit grudgingly. Yes they were at the top but they fully deserved to be there. They may have spent big but it was money accrued without the use of a sugar daddy. Granted they really came into the big league moneywise by floating themselves on the stock exchange, but it was something that any club could theoretically do and didn't rely on pure chance like getting a benefactor. It's also what led to them having Glazer as such a terrible owner mind you.

They may well have spent lots of money over the years but at each stage of their success they've had sides spending around the same as them (whether it was us, Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool or Chelsea) and still came out well on top. Ferguson may be dislikeable at times but he's still a brilliant manager who showed his real class again with this Rooney thing and whilst I hardly like him, I'd take him over a Harry Redknapp any day of the week characterwise.

Any side that's successful will have plastic fans. Hell I'm sure some of the users on here are from far flung parts that got into us when we won the title. You'd never call them plastic fans since they've stuck with us since through thick and thin, but I think plenty of Man Utd's current fans would do too.

I always used to hate United, but since the likes of City have got these shady sugar daddies and their fans have showed themselves up to be classless pricks, it's hard to hold so much hate for a club with proud traditions who have been successful in the way that all the great clubs over the years have become successful.
