92er Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Wonder if he drove past this on the way home yesterday? Chillingly it's spelled (and punctuated) correctly too. (That rules out many on here! ) Certainly 1 in particular!
Jackson Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Well, at least Wazza was right about one thing. He won't be winning anything soon.
Kelbo Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Is there any possibility that this is done so United can sell him for a huge fee in the summer instead of a small one in January? They would definitely be right in questioning his motivation after this farce... Thats what I think too!!
Majiball Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Thats what I think too!! I think its an opinion shared by many.
Rovermatt Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Gutted by this news. Was really looking forward to seeing him turn out for Chelsea.
Stuart Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 The Glazers will be kicking themselves if they didn't bet some of the loan money on Rooney staying. There must have been great odds yesterday!
blue/white Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 First Rikjaard... now Donadoni........ Liverpool's not exactly attracting the A List Mgmt. material are they?

They would definitely be right in questioning his motivation after this farce... I'd say so. He'll get bunged either way, but this way at least his home won't be torched. It's been touching how the Mancs have taken to a scouser so much when they know that every scouser blue, red or Shrek totally hates them.
bazza Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Why can't you compare them? The numbers might be much more for United but only because their success was so much greater. The principle is still the same. If you saw a Rovers fan on here from, for a random example, Doncaster who got into us during the '95 season would you say the same? They might well have stuck with us through the relegation seasons but it's still supporting a Premier League club when they could be supporting their local club. Why did you pick Doncaster? There are thousands of Rovers supporters in Doncaster.

Amo Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Good article by Brian Reade on the Rooney fiasco.
thenodrog Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Good article by Brian Reade on the Rooney fiasco. It might be good if I'd forgotten all about Everton nicking Fred Pickering and Keith Newton off us as well as Howard Kendall off PNE and Alan Ball off Blackpool when the abolishment of the maximum wage had reduced us to paupers and they were the nations 'millionaire club' in the 60's.... but I haven't! =================================================================== Hows this for brass neck. Alex Ferguson commenting on Rooney..... I always feel it's a quality in a person when they say they're sorry and realise they've made a mistake. That happens, particularly with young people, and I admire that. " How often has he practised what he preaches?
dave birch Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 The thing though, Theno, was that Everton never won anything around those times. It was always said after that, that money could never promise you a premiership (title). I remember being gutted with Pickering/ Vernon(?)going. What about Johnny Carey!

I never saw Roy Vernon play for us. But in the late 60's Everton won the title once as well as winning and finishing runners up in the FA Cup. Not suprising when they had the pick of Lancashire's finest. ..I'm sure that if Lancashire Utd were around at that time history would have been re-written.

thenodrog Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 They nicked Howard Kendall off Rovers as well! And Gordon Lee! And Moyes off PNE. That Brian Reades typical scouse bleating is sounding more ludicrous by the minute. Good article but it should have been written by someone else.

But in the late 60's Everton won the title once as well as winning and finishing runners up in the FA Cup. Not suprising when they had the pick of Lancashire's finest. I'm pretty certain that was after the Rovers "influence" had left.( I haven't checked, so could be wrong) I always felt they couldn't get it together, and to some extent that applies today. They have the odd "good player" but they don't have a "team" if you get my meaning.
philipl Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 ..I'm sure that if Lancashire Utd were around at that time history would have been re-written. They were, 'drog.
dave birch Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 They were, 'drog. Eee eck is that a Leyland?
philipl Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Certainly is Dave. New to Lancashire United in 1930 and spent many years running around Jersey after retirement from Lancashire.

I remembered they won the cup in 1966-this might not be what you were referring to. I also checked and found they won the league in 1969/70-which I had forgotten about. I guess that's the season Newton went there.
thenodrog Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 I also checked and found they won the league in 1969/70-which I had forgotten about. The Holy Trinity.... Ball, Harvey and Kendall in midfield.
jim mk2 Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 It wasn't all one way - we bought George Sharples from the Toffees for £10,000 in the late 60s - a decent sum of money then. Not a bad player but hardly in the Newton / Pickering class going to Goodison.
