You must have had your eyes closed for 20 years.

Bale is very quick and er, can cross a ball. Giggs at the same age was very quick, and could cross a ball. He still can cross a ball, and he certainly no slouch considering his age. He has also matured into a very skilful, astute footballer who can play in a number of positions.

Bale is promising and has had a few good games for Spurs. To suggest he has "shown things this season that Giggs hasn't shown in 20" in nonsense.

Data before 2001 is patchy its only because Giggs has the most that I can readily extract it, but I wouldn't say it was 100% accurate. I can however provide Scholes from 2001, 29 assists, to Ryan's 100. Those figures include this season as well and cover all competitions.

That stat is even more impressing considering Giggs made the bulk of those assists from open play. He has never played a big part in Utd's set pieces.

Despite that, and as I said earlier, I still respect your opinion on the matter. Having had my eyes open for 8 or so years on this messageboard, I am well aware that you are incapable of reciprocating that respect, and am therefore unsurprised at your insulting tone.

I must admit Maj I had my doubts, so I looked on the Premier League website and found out the below -

2000/2001 - Scholes - 3 Giggs - 1 (Top - Thierry Henry - 7)

2001/2002 - Scholes - 3 Giggs - 13 (Top - Laurent Robert - 16)

2002/2003 - Scholes - 4 Giggs - 13 (Top - Thierry Henry - 23)

2003/2004 - Scholes - 4 Giggs - 11 (Top - Muzzy Izzet - 14. Emerton got 11 this season!)

2004/2005 - Scholes - 3 Giggs - 10 (Top - Frank Lampard - 16)

2005/2006 - Scholes - 2 Giggs - 9 (Top - Didier Drogba - 11)

2006/2007 - Scholes - 0 (I'm assuming, he wasnt on the list) Giggs - 9 (Top - Cesc Fabregas- 11)

2007/2008 - Scholes - 3 Giggs - 5 (Top - Cesc Fabregas- 19)

2008/2009 - Scholes - 2 Giggs - 8 (Top - Robin Van Persie- 11)

2009/2010 - Scholes - 4 Giggs - 11 (Top - Frank Lampard - 17)

2010/2011 - Scholes - 3 Giggs - 2 (Top - Nani - 8)

Scholes - 31. Giggs - 92.

I'm quite surprised at those numbers - firstly that Giggs has so many, and even more so that Scholes has so few. I would imagine a lot of Giggs are from set pieces that Scholes doesn't get involved in, but then those of us that see MGP every week know that set piece delivery is a skill in itself (one our wannabe popstar winger doesn't have).

Giggs has done well to be consistent on this score - but he's never topped the list and has often lagged far behind the top assisters. Still better than I thought though, I don't mind admitting.

He's still crap though.

Until Bale has produced these performances over a number of years there is no way he will have been a better player than Giggs. This is the first season that Bale has showed any serious talent or potential, Giggs has been playing at a high level for almost 20 years.

Giggs started off with tremendous pace, trickery and skill when he burst onto the scene but injuries meant he had to adapt his game.

If you had said "Bale is a better player than Giggs at this moment in time" I would have agreed with you. But you said "Bale is better than Giggs ever was". I'm sorry but i just cannot agree with that, In 10-15 years time you may have a point.

I got mine from ESPN its generally reasonably reliable, still surprises me how two websites can be so different on figures that are so basic.

I was rather surprised at Scholes relatively low number as well, I would have thought he'd be nearer to 5 a year.

Oh well since Giggs is crap and Scholes has only 1 third as many assists guess we can start a new debate, Schole is sh!t and its because he's ginger. ;)

Silly silly argument, to compare Bale with Giggs at this present moment in time. In 20 years time, if Bale has achieved what Giggs has, then you can compare the 2. Giggs is basically from a different generation, despite still playing today.

Far be it for me to defend a Manc but one or two of those goals are Bale-esque. Worth noting who the Arsenal players are Giggs runs past for the goal rated number 1.

My favourite Giggs goal isn't there- against Juventus when he collected the ball on the left touchline and just accelerated away from the defenders before smashing an unstoppable shot into the far corner. The movement was so smooth it was breath taking.

I've usually got a firm grip of Tug's balls when it comes to arguments, but on this one I'm going to have to leave him hanging loose.

Playing at the very top for the worlds biggest club is a whole different level of pressure, and until Bale has done it over a significant period of time, he cannot even be compared to the hairy Welsh Wizard.

I have got something to cheer up everyone's day after what has been disastrous week in terms of our league table placing and the chicken jokes but this should cheer everyone up after this week the other day people might have heard David Gold was banned from the boardroom for comments he made about the club but now he must be on the happy stuff this deluded fool reckons in this order they will move to the olympic stadium & then he reckons after that happens they will win the EPL according to the article below:

I have to say I laughed so hard my sides almost split I think someone needs to tell him the only place they will be playing is against our six fingered inbreds the nearest they will ever get to the olympic stadium is probably a ground tour. Just to expand on that, I'll compare Giggs to two other players, Scholes and Beckham.

In all competitions (comparable statistic for league games only at the end) -

Giggs has scored 157 goals in 847 games, 0.19 goals per game. (0.18)

Beckham scored 87 goals in 399 games, 0.22 goals per game. (0.23)

Scholes has scored 150 goals in 655 games, 0.23 goals per game. (0.22)

Stanley Matthews scored 81 goals for Stoke City and Blackpool in 795 games. (0.10)
