sweet Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Bent has handed in transfer request. Can't believe he would leave Sunderland for Villa, whilst I'm not the biggest bruce fan he has built a really good squad at sunderland over time, just like he did at wigan. How much is it villa have spent/bid this window so far. 3.5m for Adam, 5m for Makoun, 24m for Bent? 32.5 million, BONKERS! Shows we are still a million miles from competing with them in the transfer window unfortunately.

Tom 1 Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 O'Neill didn't leave because we were skint, that popular rumour is for MON lovers, he left because he spent ###### loads on ###### players who never played and were on massive wages. Fee for Bent is ridiculous, but i'd rather spend 18m on Bent than go down, and goals keep teams up, sign Bent and we're guarenteed to be going nowhere near relegation. 18m never gets paid up front anyway, it's all over a number of years etc, just means it'll be a quieter summer.

J*B Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Well that's pumped Sambas price right up. If they can afford 24m for bent I'd expect atleast 15m for samba.

HemelRover Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 What the hell has that got to do with this thread? Well, at a guess. The match was a Premier League match between, at the time, 2 Premier League teams.
Darwen End Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Suarez will be a quality signing for Liverpool in my eyes
Rathbone Market Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Latest rumour has it my car crash of a football club has now appointed Allardyce after cocking up the MON situation. God knows if it's true. Almost past caring...
Tim Southampton Rover Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Let's hope he takes Diouf in too!
Hughesy Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Latest rumour has it my car crash of a football club has now appointed Allardyce after cocking up the MON situation. God knows if it's true. Almost past caring... No offence but he would be better for you right now, rather than MON. MON needs bags of cash to finish 6th, Sam is a master at keeping clubs up.
Rathbone Market Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I don't disagree. I think the whole long ball thing/issues surrounding Allardyce are largely inaccurate and suit certain people's agendas. I'm not a massive fan of him but you'd be a fool not to acknowledge his capabilities. One thing we lack in particular (apart from decent players!) is a bit of grit or niggle. We are too 'nice'. He would certainly change that, amongst other things... The whole Grant affair has been an embarrassment thus far though. I don't subscribe to the idea that Grant is a victim but do feel that the club have failed miserably in delivering one of their key objectives/promises that they stated from day one- transparency and communication with the supporters. The mixed messages have apparently upset a fair few journo's and we are getting even more bad press. We've served up crap football pretty much solidly for years. Barring one good season under Pardew we've just had the odd nice result against some of our rivals. I don't have a season ticket for the football as such, more for the laugh but it's becoming a real struggle to get motivated...and if we lose the Olympic Bid I think we will be in real trouble...
John Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Would not leave it much longer though if your going to make that managerial change.

Question about having the Olympic stadium. I haven't really followed it except I know both you and Spurs want it. Why would it be better than Upton Park?
Rathbone Market Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I'm not sure that it would tbh. I like the fact Upton Park is 'old school' with crowd close to the pitch etc. I like the tradition of things and would not actually want us to move. However, if we don't get it and Spurs do I fear that we will be totally cast adrift and left behind. Looking at Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea and then Spurs in the Olympic Stadium we would really struggle to attract a decent calibre of player and investment to our part of the capital. The OS would also enable us to generate more income. We are heavily supported in terms of merchandise (easily top ten). We also have a worrying situation where the average age of our fans is 50+. We desperately need to attract a new, younger generation to the club- the O/S would enable the club to reduce ticket prices in an attempt to do so. This is all my opinion based on things I've picked up, but I believe it to be true...
Valois Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Question about having the Olympic stadium. I haven't really followed it except I know both you and Spurs want it. Why would it be better than Upton Park? I read that Spurs want to knock most of it down if they get it, and replace it into a 60,000 seater stadium. Surely this can't be allowed to happen, considering all the money that has been spent on building it in the first place. I think West Ham have said they will just reduce the capacity from 80,000 to 60,000. I always enjoyed going to Upton Park, despite our results there over the years have not been that great. Would be a shame to see it go. That said I would much rather West Ham get it than Spurs, especially if they are planning to knock must of it down.

He would certainly change that, amongst other things... Congratulations on recognising Sam's qualities which is more than be said of many Rovers fans while he was in charge. Many Rovers fans were upset over Sam's sacking and after saving the club from relegation think he deserved the financial backing now apparently being offered to Kean. I don't know if there is any truth in the story but were he to take the West Ham job you can be confident Allardyce would do a better job than O'Neill. West Ham have some decent players (can we have Scott Parker please) and were unlucky only to draw at Ewood back in December. Good luck for the rest of the season - hope we don't get embroiled in a relegation battle with you.
Miker Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 What's the reasoning for Bent wanting to leave Sunderland?? He's been fantastic for them since he joined and is now part of a very strong squad on the up. Bonkers if he actually wants to leave, especially to Aston Villa.

I was wondering the same but it's obvious really. He's been tapped up by Villa and offered more money. Wish we could get him and send RSC back to City.
Mercer Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Latest rumour has it my car crash of a football club has now appointed Allardyce after cocking up the MON situation. God knows if it's true. Almost past caring... Not seen it reported anywhere. Mixed feelings because you should have been relegated after the alleged Tevez irregularities and this season might just be the season. However, appoint Sam and you can almost certainly look forward to PL footie next season. The man is a football genius for struggling clubs and I hope that you give him an opportunity to show what he can do once he's saved you.

Cash....+ the fact its sh!te in Sunderland? Hope he leaves....will serve 'thats for Sam' Bruce right!! Massive loss for them, no matter what cash they get.
