[Archived] Problem With Computer, Virus?

For a while now, I think my computer has picked up a virus - everytime I try and open up an application or pretty much anything the following appears:

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel

I have done a google search to try and solve the problem however there seems to be a number of possible solutions - has anyone had this before? Any recommended ways to solve it?

try removing your current anti virus, and replace with a different one. if it picks up something, then your anti virus is not detecting viruses or malware etc

if you are struggling for anti-virus,i can thoroughly reccommend `Avast`.Never had a problem and have been using it for around 5 years.

And it`s free!

Thanks guys, have managed to solve the problem - Spybot seemed to help.

Do seem to have a problem now though, where using the internet can be very slow (think it has something to do with explorer not my connection).
