Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 I'm with the "Strengthen centre midfield first" faction ". I like Nzogbia as a player, he's an old fashioned winger, very quick, he can beat a man and he scores his share of goals. Off the pitch he's a pain in the arse ( but so are a lot of other Premiership players ). He's also a lot better than what we've already got. Having said that, like most wingers he relies on good service from midfield and the back, will he get that from the current Rovers side ? No service = very little output where wingers are concerned. I'd like to see us go for somebody who can run the game from an advanced centre midfield position (like a Bohinen or Berkovic), someone who can run at the opposition with the ball and get up with and beyond the strikers. Much as I also like Charlie Adam I don't think he does this. If we signed both of these players I'd be delighted on one level but on the other I'd know we still haven't addressed our main failing.

SamTheShrew Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Michael Johnson being linked with a loan move to Wolves today in the Mirror Surely worth a punt on a loan
benhben Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 I still think if we get a decent midfield providing decent supply to the forwards, Kalinic could do the business.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Michael Johnson being linked with a loan move to Wolves today in the Mirror Surely worth a punt on a loan You mean the guy who used to play for 'City years ago. He's the in the right position but he's more of a Kevin Nolan type, a runner after the ball rather than with it. The problem is he's been injured longer than Grella !!! Too much of a risk I think, even on loan.
67splitscreen Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 N'Zogbia/Liverpool, they are also linked with 4m Swiss winger Stocker, maybe there won't be to many bigger clubs than Rovers chasing him.
herbergeehh Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Maybe Liverpool should back off until they know who's making the decisions come January.... a better bet for chelsea... http://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/chelsea-line-bid-bolton-defender-cahill-1317951?
Bobby G Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Spurs are said to be offering Krankjar and 1 million to Everton for Pienaar. That tells me that Niko is valued at 3 million-ish.
Exiled_Rover Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 So he was watching Charlie Adam. Only player in the local region who fits your description. One of our top goal scorers too.
Majiball Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 I think £7m plus Roberts would be more than enough to get him (provided that we're also signing a striker in Jan). But if the likes of Liverpool are interested then obviously our chances arent that great. I would lose Diouf MKII or Benjani before Roberts, he's a key reason behind our form and if he is to leave he can wait till the summer. I'd welcome N'zogbia provided we can still sign a quality central player. Charlie Adam, well since he's Scottish I can get on board with, statiscally one of the best central players in the league at present. I dunno though I hope its real and he is as good as they say but I can't help but wonder if there's an element of "promotion syndrome" or some such. Liverpool or Rovers, well I doubt it will come to that. Woy was god awful in the market last time he managed a big club, if N'zogbia is quality Woy won't see it & Won't sign him, lol.

Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Depends on how much they would want wage wise for it to be feasible. Far more talented than our Vince We would be tieing up our valuable loan slot on someone who may not play. More talented than Grella ? I'll let you know when I've seen Grella play a full game !
budha Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Last time Michael Johnson started a PL game was August 2008. He played a full Carling cup -game a month after, and since has had 2 substitute appearances for the first team for total of 21 minutes (Soccernet stats). Using a loan slot for him would be madness.

Why would spuds want Pienaar? crazy, with the talent they have in MF, not to mention the pulling power of later stage CL side.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Venkys......get that cheque book out asap! You might want to remortgage some of your property because we need a lot of decent players!
Backroom Tom Posted December 12, 2010 Backroom Posted December 12, 2010 NZogbia is a great player but surely our main priority is a creative midfielder as Dunn is clearly past it, how much would Adam cost us? Still not convinced he is the answer but I havn't seen all that much of him myself.
RevidgeBlue Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 NZogbia is a good player but is he worth 7m? For all the talk of former players like RSC and Bentley coming back, in an ideal world if one old boy was to return I'd prefer it to be Warnock allowing Olsson to play in front of him on the left hand side of midfield and vice versa.
Backroom Tom Posted December 12, 2010 Backroom Posted December 12, 2010 Warnocks a pretty poor left back in my opinion, better than what we have at present but caught out far too often for my liking.
nicko Posted December 12, 2010 Author Posted December 12, 2010 I would think if you can land N'Zogbia, Adam [or someone similar] and a striker you will be a pretty decent top-half side after seeing that today. No real need for a left back. Givet is a good pro and Olsson is maybe better suited to that role. Jones needs to get out of midfield, by the way. And DO NOT underestimate how much money these Indians are prepared to spend.

Nicko, any idea why such the contrast between what was said regarding transfer budget at the time of the takeover and the seeming reality? Or was it just simple good old fashioned bluffing?
ada2020 Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Keeping their hand close to their chest if you ask me, good on them, shows some good business sense.

Or was it just simple good old fashioned bluffing? I don't have the whole answer to that. But it seems that the Indians are in the mood to have a go at all levels. They are launching their latest business in a 'flash' manner...and I know that the meetings last week suggested the cash is out for theur other new toy too. The change in mood among the Rovers high-ups - manager and staff - since the meeting is noticeable. I just hope they are consistent and no to subject to changes of mind. It is all uncharted but fairly interesting territory.
Mr. E Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 After today I am equally as excited about the "Outs" too. Making mistakes is one thing, allowing them to score from a kickoff shows a total lack of commitment.

Wonder if we are talking about a 20 million pounds as our budget in january

With the new UEFA rules (owners putting money in) coming in next season and the fact we have a lot of ground to make up, this window is the last opportunity for a splurge. The new info you are alluding to, do you still see loans being a big part of this window?.
chaddyrovers Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 New financial and club's debt rules comes in to force in 2015 AND not 2012. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8546561.stm
