den Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 What player worth his salt is going to sign for a club without a manager? (I'm talking top players here not journeymen rubbing rags) Unless they're offered a kings ransom Aggy, none.

Baz Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 The last player we signed with no manager was Per Pederson - what a worldie he turned out to be. Charlie Adam is too slow for my liking, and not a good enough ball player to make up for his lack of defensive game. Surely we should be able to find someone who can play football and can keep fit?
Torgeir Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I think Sven Göran Eriksson approved the transfer of Per Pedersen actually. And he turned out great as he scored the winner at Stamford Bridge
nicko Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 'OWN" "THEIR" Are you saying along the lines of, it's Kentaros club regarding football, Raos finance the deal up front and reap the benefits fron Venky's global exposure and a share of the profit generated through Kentaros players moving in and out of the club. Has that not been obvious since the outset?

Ha ha ha,good ol Per Pederson
brian_gallagher85 Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I'm all for going after C.Adam I think he'll be a good player for a club like ours - but if they are serious about getting 4th/5th then they are going to have to look at better players than him. Well we're hardly going to sign the Essiens of this world overnight are we? Adam would easily earn us an extra 10 points a season over what we have at present!

Billy Castell Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I just hope that Kean won't just sign other Kentaro clients like Boyd because he's told to. With luck he will stand up and say "player X is past it, however I do like player Y who is on your books, along with player Z who is not." I'm guessing the set-up will be a bit like that company that owns the Brazilian clubs, and Tevez when he went to West Ham, but adapted to Premier League rules.
67splitscreen Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Has that not been obvious since the outset? i was kinda hoping that Ms Desai did not tell fibs, IE. Kentaro are one of many advisor's we are taking with. there is a big difference if it works out as you say. Guess I'm to trusting.

Even assuming for a second the proposed arrangement were that cynical it would require the players on Kentaro's books both to be good in the first place and successful at Rovers to be sold on for a profit. If it was the Walkers doing that I'm sure thenodrog would be describing it as good business practice and a deserved return on their initial investment.
blue/white Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 A good mate of mine saw Luca Toni and Diego Maradonna outside Leavers today They must have been getting ready to go houseshopping then, eh?
Manc Rover Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I think Sven Göran Eriksson approved the transfer of Per Pedersen actually. And he turned out great as he scored the winner at Stamford Bridge Is that right? I suppose it makes sense seeing as he was supposed to join us a few months after. That cheeky swede!
PAFELL Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Charlie Adam thing is very much alive. Steve Kean was a major fan of his in the recent round of spying trips. I think that one could have a big chance for January. But does steve kean have access to the cheque book - does he have a say in who comes into the club. After all he is only on trial for about a few months. Though I think he is here for a lt longer than that. Maybe not in the role he is in now, maybe as assistant again to Chris Coleman.

By the looks of it Steve Kean will be manager in January...unless Diego decides to take the offer... And players will be signed in January. So we will see who claims responsibility for them at the time.
Bobby G Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 There is an offer on the table for Diego to be our manager?
nicko Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 There is an offer on the table for Diego to be our manager? You didn't hear what Mrs D said last night...
Bobby G Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Rao's said they held initial talks which didnt progress. But you just said unless Diego takes up the offer, so what does that mean?
cletus Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Even assuming for a second the proposed arrangement were that cynical it would require the players on Kentaro's books both to be good in the first place and successful at Rovers to be sold on for a profit. If it was the Walkers doing that I'm sure thenodrog would be describing it as good business practice and a deserved return on their initial investment. ....so effectively, any player who does well at our club (thus becoming a fans favourite in the process) will quickly be moved on to the highest bidder? It all sounds very good in a business sense (for Venky`s), but not very good for the fans. Every 6 months your favourite player will be moved on, leaving us with the players who fail to impress. A conveyor belt of talent for sale in the Ewood shop window. It hardly gives the paying fans time to build relationships with their 'heroes' in blue & white, cos another one will be along in a minute. There`d be no point in selling shirts with names on either....unless they were made of velcro I think if it came to this, i`d probably end up walking away from football.
SouthAussieRover Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Tell you what Cletus... Looking back football really died the day the Bosman judgement was made.
Taggart Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 You didn't hear what Mrs D said last night... I think it would be an "outside the box" coup if Diego joined our revoultion in some capacity - I think he would have immense pulling power (not just pulling pints, or wraps of white powder from his pocket) but in terms of the talent rich pool of players in Soouth America - maybe even Riquelme, now that would be a signing for the Rovers "playmaker" category ! on a more sensible note - Nicko - do you think that Steve Kean is the "yes" man that some have alluded to ?
DannyKeg Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 On the question of Ins and Outs (mainly Ins being discussed). It was reported that three we were after were Adam, N'Zogbia and Carlton Cole. The standard mantra from managers is that you need to bring in players who are better than the ones you already have and in so doing improve the squad. I think the three mentioned would have met those requirements. The question is, if the break up with Sam was due to the new owners (advised by Kentaro) not being happy with Sam's targets, will the new targets be better than Adam, N'Zogbia and Cole ?
pick32 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 It makes sence allardyce wasnt happy with the list that venkys gave him, so they give him the boot and dont employ a manager till after the transfer window. that way jermoe anderson can step in and fill the club with @#/? players with no manager there to get in his way.

There`d be no point in selling shirts with names on either....unless they were made of velcro I think if it came to this, i`d probably end up walking away from football. I'd find it difficult to continue supporting a club run this way, they would have effectively removed the heart and soul of the club and it would be unrecognisable to the club i've supported since i was a kid. If push came to shove I'd do what a lot of my friends who have also become disillusioned with the premier league over the last few years, throw my support behind my hometown club FC Halifax, currently riding high at the top of Northern Premier League Premier Division after winning promotion in their second season of existence after Halifax Town went out of business. Up the Shaymen!

But does that make sense ? The new owners have just invested 45 M, at the advice of Kentaro presumably. They surely don't want to loose that cash getting relegated. If Kentaro came up with a list of lesser players, that wouldn't help anyone, including Kentaro if we get relegated. So it would be interesting to find out who was on Kentaro's list who were better/worse than Adam, N'Zogbia and Carlton Cole.

Even if Venky's know nothing about football, how long do you think Kentaro could do business like that before they got found out? If we sign strictly @#/? player then Venky's will be throwing their investment away. All PR is good PR perhaps? So they sink the ship and gain publicity by doing so, enabling them to make £45m+ from somewhere else as a result of our downfall. Don't think so. Give them a chance before passing judgement, we don't know their long term plans just yet.
