Mancini and Man City want him out fast.

Sven and Leicester are desperate for him.

The player knows and is talking about it happening very soon.

Roque needs to play - he hasn't really done that for a couple of years.

If he does well at Leicester, then Man City have a better chance of selling him in January. The alternative is a couple of games in the stiffs between now and then.

By the way, getting the money you did for him with his injury record may just be the best sale ever...

Perhaps even more to the point, Sven and Mancini get on like a house on fire. 20k a week for Roque sounds like a great deal, but it's likely mates rates. I would love him back at that price, but suspect those terms wouldn't apply.

A very good spot. I hadn't even remembered that angle. Old age...

We need a decent second choice left back for when Givet is missing (either injured, suspended or playing centre back)

Olsson is not my preferred option there

Eh? Olsson isn't the preferred option, he's second choice.

He's a decent full back, good enough to be our second choice. We can't really afford to have a specialist back up, versatility is key for back up players on our budget so Olsson is fine.

I'd be happy to sell Givet for a proper left back mind...

Sounds like it could be another Bellamy case. i.e. City are happy to take less money for the player to prevent him joining a PL rival.

I don't understand that reasoning (though the fact Leicester can loan him now and PL teams can't makes sense). It would actually be clever for City to loan him and any other player to any Prem team that can't compete with them for league standings, as they can't play against the parent club. It puts them in a bigger shop window, but moreover they can take points off the teams in and around City.

I don't agree about Olsson, dodgy at left back. Cracking left mid, fairly poor LB.

So if Roque is going to Leicester...does that mean that Roberts isn't? :-(

Sorry LeChuck - poorly worded by me - I was trying to say that Olsson is our preferred second choice - the player always chosen to slot in whenever Givet is unable to play left back... and I still don't think Olsson is good enough in that position.

Hopefully under the Venky Boys we might have a bit of extra budget to enable us to have some specialist back up.

Would £5m in January be enough to take Steven Davis from Rangers? For all the striker-talk, we've got enough to keep us going. It's the midfield that needs shapin' up.

I think Steven Davis is a really good player and what we need in midfield. Still think we need a proven goalscorer tho. Depend on who will can get tho and how much money is available tbh.

Olsson is not my preferred option there, decent going forward but just cannot play as an effective defender.

Every time Givet is taken out of his slot we suffer.

Olsson is excellent going forward - he's by far our most dynamic player. He's simply not a left back though. We've needed a backup for Givet for a year - Olsson should be part of the 'front 3' every match.

I think £5m is probably just about the asking price for Davis. Not sure the bank would let Rangers turn down any decent sort of offer for any of their players, however Davis is probably one of the few they would be most loathed to let go (along with perhaps McGregor and Bougherra). I do think Davis offers that little creative spark we lack when Dunn is out (most weeks) and can also play on the right when required. I'm probably very biased though, he hails from Cullybackey hey, about 5 minutes from me.

Agreed but Bentley a close 2nd and Maybe Duff 3rd when you consider a couple of years later Chelsea sold him for 5 million!

Selling Bentley and Duff were big, big mistakes.

Hum. Not sure about Bentley as if we kept hold of him I think he would have stopped performing. He is petulent and immature and would more than likely refuse to play etc.

Holding on to Duff could have worked as he was a good lad who recognised his responsibilities. However I think he was sold because he had a release clause for an absolutely astronomical sum of money for 2003 (17m quid) which Chelsea matched. Not a lot we could do there.

Didn't Duff say he didn't want to leave but the club wanted to part with him so he had no option. I know they all say that but Duff seemed a pretty honest fellow who loved his time at Ewood. Amazing player, I remember his debut in the cup. Extraordinary talent he really should have won more trophies.

That fits with my recollection. At the time I was under the impression that the release clause was £17.5 mill, but Rovers accepted £17 mill.

Duff said that he wanted to talk to someone at the club as he wasn't sure if he wanted to leave. No-one spoke to him. The message he received was "There's nowt to talk about. We've sold you, lad."

He was thinking of staying and we weren't interested. Oh, to have a player of Duff's ability playing for us now.

Didn't stop him kissing the Chelsea badge when he scored against us at Ewood. Sour grapes perchance or the fickle face of football?

Or he considered that we snubbed him? Not sour grapes, exactly, but similar.

Takeover & cash permitting.....PLEASE can we sign Andy Carroll!

This is off the back of Sam praising him, when questioned, on Sky today? I appreciate Newcastle have had a good win, today, as well.

We've been told, apparently, if the takeover occurs we'd have £5 mill to spend on up and coming players. Carroll would cost at least double that (probably more) and he's playing for his home town club. He would have little interest in joining us.
