EDIT: more seriously, I wasn't saying we should have an alternative.

I was just pointing out an apparent contradiction in what you said. On the one hand you want Venky's to take over, on the other hand, you're lambasting fans for having exactly teh sort of mindset that Venky's seem to be bringing to the club.

I'm doing no more lambasting than you are!. If you'd read my previous post I'm making a distinction between a local boy, a fan and an Academy youngster as against a recruited player.

Perhaps we should have sold Clayton and Duggie? We'd have made a fair bit of money for the time.

people are just playing around with the idea of, ´what if´.

one scenario is, we wont get a huge load of cash, still battling relegation and with a sellable asset, in a position, where replacements are easier found. So ofcourse people are playing around with this idea, when the money could be used, to strenghten weaker areas in our team.

No one, in their right mind, would sell the lad, if venky´´s are splashing the cash in january.

Nonsense comparison. The economics of football aren't the same as they were 50 years ago.

I wouldn't get too sentimental about it, I doubt our prospective new owners will be too fussed when they eventually sell Jones that he's a local lad.

I would LOVE to see John Carew in blue and white! If we're patient though, could get him on a pre-contract in January and for free at end of the season! :rover:

I wouldn't sign a pre-contract agreement with a club that might be in the Championship next season without my help in the latter stages of this season...I think it's a buy now and play now situation.

Roque can go - and he wants out. He has got Leicester City on loan if he wants it [although he seems a bit slow taking up that option].

Man City would do well to get that money for him.

I think Roque would be happy to stay in the Premier in January if he gets the chance. I know his 'people' have been ringing round this week, so that tells me he has nothing concrete yet.

Interesting developments.

Sounds like he has not got the deal at Birmingham City that he wanted.

I would watch that space very closely.

I've always wondered this - maybe you could shed some light Nicko?

The article above mentions that there hasn't been any real dialogue in a couple of months. It's far from the first time I've heard quotes like this from managers. Why isn't this kind of thing sorted right away, especially as getting contracts sorted can be worth several millions to clubs? I find it hard to believe that it's laziness/oversight. Do agents just start to deliberately ignore all contact if they think they can get a player elsewhere on a better deal? In this case, for example, will Larsson's agent have just said in the summer "we're not listening, come back in January?".

I heard they WERE talking...but not getting anywhere. Got to say this is a live one for Rovers by the sound of it.

Not always been my cup of tea, but he has done better lately. Would be a fight over the free kicks with Morten, mind.

I think you would have had a major job on your hands to persuade either of them to go..........especially as at the time they could not earn a penny more than they got already at Rovers. £20 p/w max wage at any English club applied.

Lets say he is on a £25k pw contract. If he is offered, and signs a new £35k pw contract in August then Birmingham have to pay him that salary from that point.

If they offer him, and he signs a new £35k pw contract in December instead then the club have saved £160k of wages.

Getting the contract sorted out as late as possible is a risk, but one that saves a club a whole load of money.

Look at Rooney at Utd. The best thing to do to secure him, form Utd's point of view would to offer him a new deal each year, but with each years extension would be a wage increase that they would then have to pay.

I dont know if that is the thinking, but it must come into it somewhere.

Fair point. I suppose it becomes a risk assessment against the loss of transfer value. But even then if Brum rated him at £1.5m (very conservative) it only takes one player out of 10 walking out on a Bosman to negate those savings. And that doesn't take into consideration Brum occasionally having to offer him 45k per week from January because Club X offered him 40k.

Nicko, just seen your comment's about Roque's people offering him about. Is this on loan or a sale and if a sale any idea how much City would be after? Surely they'll do well to get £5m for him given his last 18 months! Any interest from Rovers that you know abou seeing as we need a striker. I dont know about most people but id love to see him back, providing he stays fit of course and the wages were right!

Yeah we really need another veteran who is past his prime and on a big wage to add to our books. Oh and he's a full-back too, another for the collection.

Being serious let's hope there is no truth whatsoever to this link.

Ah but he is a left back and fortunately just in case we get desperate & funnily enough he can play at right back as well.

Have to agree, if we are getting some money to spend it would be nicer to get in some more youthful blood.
