That is really good news.

Not only is he a defender.

He's a right back.

Oddly right back could be a problem in the summer! If Salgado and Chimbonda both leave (probably at this stage) then we're going to need new right back.

Apparently Marrow has played very well for Palace at right back, so he could provide cover if we can get a good first choice in.

Surely it could only be a good thing?

Salgado seems like a model pro who has done it all and still seems grounded, he must be great to have around the place.

Ah. I think 92er is referring to the fact Chaddy is calling him Saldago. Rather than Salgado.

Not to be doom and gloom, but that isn't technically him committing his future to us. It is him saying he wants to ignore the speculation and concentrate on his football. A lot of players say this when no tangible bid has been offered yet.

Also, regarding the Petersen story. Does anybody else think that the manager going to check on players like this personally is a bit of an outdated method? I just think you can learn so much more from analysing say, video footage of all of his games this season. Granted, this might have been done too, in which case why not take a look in person, but if it hasn't...it seems daft in this day and age to judge a young player in a second tier from one game. And yes, I know his scouts will have given reports, but better to decide for yourself. Also, the manager appearing in person kinda gives the game away to potential transfer rivals.

You can analyse all you want from videos etc but actually seeing the player on the pitch in a competitive game is another matter. I don't blame allardyce at all for wanting to have a real look. I doubt he'd judge from one match - he'll have done all the rest too. However, what often swings things your way if you want a player is actually knowing that the top guy has watched you play personally. They see it as the club going out of their way to show their interest. Have read that especially in quotes from foreign press because often in France say the manager has little to do with the signing, but players still appreciate the personal touch.

I just had an idea to our midfield creative problems I am just suggesting this name so please don't lynch me for it how would people feel about signing somelike Fabrice Muamba former Arsenal/ Birmingham midfielder could be a good option does anyone know is he still at Bolton?. I haven't really watched him recently but this is just a suggestion.

Muamba's at Bolton, doing well by all accounts. Isn't he a defensive midfielder, anyway?

I'm not being funny, but why are you suggesting we sign a player when you're not even sure who he plays for?

You blatantly haven't seen him play if you're not sure what club he's at, further evidenced by you thinking he's a creative player.

To top it all off, he cost £5 million when they bought him and I doubt they'll let him go for less as he's been a regular ever since.

Please don't just pull random names out of the air, it's annoying.

Looks like we could do with recalling Nick Blackman back from Motherwell, hat-trick on wednesday, another goal today, that makes him the second top goalscorer in the SPL.

We have a striker who can score goals, he's just not playing for us at the moment.

Players high on form and confidence can make a great short-term impact, e.g. Jon Stead. Blackman's worth a shot, imo, especially with Benjani giving Grella a run for his money.

I refuse to believe that anybody can make Grella run for his money.
