AHoyle90 Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 When I see the name Jay Bothroyd being linked with our club it makes me realise why I hardly click on this thread. Do I really have to go into why he'd be a crap signing and how we have had him at the club before? Dave Nugent knew where the net was in the Championship...

BigJackWalker Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 I refuse to believe that anybody can make Grella run for his money. Made me giggle
chaddyrovers Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 I wouldn't be surprise if Big Sam went after Crouch again. According to the daily mirror Crouch maybe for sale. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Transfer-news-Tottenham-are-ready-to-offload-Peter-Crouch-in-order-to-strengthen-striking-options-article628641.html would be a good signing for us

Stuart Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Do you think 5M would be enough or do you think 5M is a bluff? Let's hope it's a bluff! I seriously hope we don't have to continually go through the same gut-wrenching, we-have-no-money-to-buy-even-average-players routine every transfer window POST takeover!
chaddyrovers Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Do you think 5M would be enough or do you think 5M is a bluff? I think it's a bluff by the new owners to make it like we not got much money when we have. If you said we got 20 million to spend then prices go up. but we tell anybody what we got to spend. no other club should know what our transfer budget is. I think Crouch would be a good signing and can play up front on his own.
Wild Irish Rover Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 From that Mirror article.. http://www.mirrorfoo...icle628641.html "When Inter Milan were over to play Spurs two weeks ago, we saw Wesley Sneijder and his wife Yolanthe out in London. The next morning I realised I had lost one of my shoes, but the next day it was in the letter box the next day." Not very bright these footballers wives... I mean, how do you lose one of your shoes in late October and you don't even notice until the next day??
MeanGreenMachine Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Top scorer at SPL = an average Championship striker. Doesnt stop you getting an england call up it seems...
brian_gallagher85 Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Not like he has much competition this season though...
LeChuck Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Doesnt stop you getting an england call up it seems... Bothroyd is probably the best Championship striker at the moment, he's not average. Not sure that makes you good enough for England though. I don't really see the point of calling him up, he's not going to be in the squad when Zamora/Bent etc are fit again.

I think the reason he is at cardiff is because he is average and each time he has been in the prem he has been cack.

I said he's probably the best striker in the Championship, you said he was he was an average Championship striker. Who in the Championship is better than him? I'm not on about the Premier League.

Torgeir Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Has Sam actually flown out today? Not sure but I see Energi Cottbus entertained 1860 Munich to a 0-0 draw.
DanLad Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Not sure but I see Energi Cottbus entertained 1860 Munich to a 0-0 draw. I hope he went to that one. Right up his street, I should imagine?
Torgeir Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 I hope he went to that one. Right up his street, I should imagine? You mean he favours non scoring strikers? Or the fact that that we've played one 0-0 draw (against Sunderland) this season? Not sure I'm following...
RoversSG Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Nicko article - Rovers to move for O'Neill No again. He's an average midfielder at best and if i'm not wrong, he has been relegated with ALL the clubs he's been at. So, no thanks.
neophox Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Jason Roberts should start against Aston Villa with Kalinic in attack!
JMillZz Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Jason Roberts should start against Aston Villa with Kalinic in attack! YES. I'd very much like to see this too.
DanLad Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 You mean he favours non scoring strikers? Or the fact that that we've played one 0-0 draw (against Sunderland) this season? Not sure I'm following... He strikes me as a chap who likes/appreciates a good defensive tussle.
Torgeir Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 He strikes me as a chap who likes/appreciates a good defensive tussle. That may be so, but probably not when he's there looking for a striker who can score.
Torgeir Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Nicko, did Sam end up going to Germany to have a closer look at Nils Petersen?
Amo Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 What would everyone say are our priorities in the recruitment drive? 1. Playmaker/Attacking Midfielder - Without Dunn, we lack a cutting edge in the final third. We need someone who can play in the 'hole' behind the front man and give us that quality in attack. Or, we could look for a deep-lying midfielder (ala Tugay), who can help control the tempo of the game and ensure Rovers keep possession in midfield. One of these would be nice. 2. Striker - It's no secret Sam wants a new striker. Kalinic hasn't hit the ground running (for reasons debated), Roberts wants out sooner or later, Benjani's a crock (on a short-team deal, thank God) and the fairly average Mame Diouf isn't even ours. That doesn't leave us with a lot of options for the future. Next year, we could finish with Kalinic as our only recognised striker. 3. Left-back It's apparent that Rovers need a specialist left-back. Givet does okay, but he's out of position and struggles against pace. Olsson looks shaky at the back. Even if he wasn't one-footed, Chimbonda is too erratic.
