TugaysMarlboro
What would everyone say are our priorities in the recruitment drive? 1. Playmaker/Attacking Midfielder - Without Dunn, we lack a cutting edge in the final third. We need someone who can play in the 'hole' behind the front man and give us that quality in attack. Or, we could look for a deep-lying midfielder (ala Tugay), who can help control the tempo of the game and ensure Rovers keep possession in midfield. One of these would be nice. 2. Striker - It's no secret Sam wants a new striker. Kalinic hasn't hit the ground running (for reasons debated), Roberts wants out sooner or later, Benjani's a crock (on a short-team deal, thank God) and the fairly average Mame Diouf isn't even ours. That doesn't leave us with a lot of options for the future. Next year, we could finish with Kalinic as our only recognised striker. 3. Left-back It's apparent that Rovers need a specialist left-back. Givet does okay, but he's out of position and struggles against pace. Olsson looks shaky at the back. Even if he wasn't one-footed, Chimbonda is too erratic. Agreed, and in that order too. nicko
Nicko, did Sam end up going to Germany to have a closer look at Nils Petersen? I have not been able to check that yet. However the word from Germany is that Petersen does not want to leave the country. So that whole idea may run out of steam.
AJW
should we be more concerned about Phil Jones future after JT admitted today he could be out "for months" ?
Ricky
And Alex is also out at the moment. Time to brace ourselves for a bid.

Pretty much agree with that, though we may have to look for a right back at some point in the near future. Salgado has just hit 35, we don't know how much longer he can go on at this level and isn't Emerton's contract up in the summer? If we sign Emerton to a new deal and Salgado can play for another season then we should be fine for another year. A lot will also depend on how well Ramm develops. nicko
should we be more concerned about Phil Jones future after JT admitted today he could be out "for months" ? I would have to say the thought went through my mind. Chelsea do not have any proper cover for Terry, so the timing of the injury is bad news all round. On the plus side Chelsea are looking at Phil Jones as a long-term signing - whether they reckon he could slot straight in from January is another question. Keeping my ears well open on that front just now.
DanLad
That may be so, but probably not when he's there looking for a striker who can score. Ah, I didn't think it had been established that he was looking for a striker. I was under the impression that big Sam thinks that the best way for a striker to score is to win the battle in midfield (ala Mancini subbing Barry in for Tevez)... ...or get on the wrong side of Jason Roberts. nicko
That could change. I remember you saying something about Palacios not wanting to go to Spurs too. Until they offered him enough money that is True. Palacios didn't want to go to London. Came back, waited for Man City to come in - as they said they would - and then got shunted off to Spurs in the end. Steve Bruce wasn't happy with Sparky for that as you may recall. Poor old Palacios's first instinct on the move may have been right after the way it has been for him lately.

chaddyrovers
Tchite would be a good signing imo. got pace and can finish. I'm sure that Big Sam will have a big list of target for the striker and midfield playmaker for January. Then in the summer bring in a goalscorer midfield, right back, left back and a couple of strikers to replace Benjani and Mame Diouf(unless we could sign him perm). Hughesy
Salgado's contract is up this summer. I don't know about Emerton's. Not sure if this is exactly right But of contract in summer I think are Salgado, Brown, Roberts, Benjani, Judge, Summer 2012 - Dunn, Emerton, Nelsen, Grella, El Hadji, Hoilett

nicko
Nicko, any thing in the rumour we are after Tchite again It's a name that has been mentioned on and off for years. He never seems to play as much as he should. Interesting that he is doing well at last. The price sounds a bit high. But it's not one to dismiss - good strikers are hard to find. I was going to say it smells as if there could be something to it.

chaddyrovers
Trueblue, I never said that we would be able to sign all players for these positions. If we sold andrews and grella, chimbonda and Salgado out of contract in the summer along with roberts and benjani out of contract. Then we need to replace them. We have got some good young players coming through the youth set up like Ramm and Potts. I guess we will have to see what money is available in January and the summer. We won't know till the transfer window tho! Depend on what players are available at that time!
