47er Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 I agree with Bellamy. I'm not a lover of SWP by any stretch of the imagination, but on a short term loan he could give us another string to the bow. One other player I would bring in if possible - and he has been mentioned before is John Carew. He would be ideal for the way we play. As an aside, Baz said to me after today's game that Villa would have been a far bigger threat if Carew had been in their side - and I'm sure they would. All the Villa crosses into the box, with no-one to get on the end, or knock down. Those two, short term would move us forward a little. Yes-short-term perhaps. Wouldn't do Hoilett's career any good though, you could hardly play both of them. Sorry---put that badly, I meant to say we couldn't play Hoilett and SWP in the same side.
Roberto Policano Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Just been watching Juve v Genoa on ESPN and they were talking about Juve being a potential destination of Adebayor in Jan. They were saying that any deal would be relient on them being able to sell the Brazilian Amauri who they are looking to sell for about 8million Euros with Villa being interested. If so, this is the sort of striker we should be looking at. Big, strong, mobile, good on the ground and in the air. Juve want Dzeko,Forlan or Benzema.Haven't heard of them having any Adebayor interest for months now. Amauri's on 88k a week.
philipl Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 After a succession of quiet-ish windows and a Premier League table which will make every club think this season could have something in it for them this season, this January could be quite busy and competitive in the search for new players. City could be spending £80m again, Chelsea see themselves as having needs, will Arsenal carry on as though there is nothing wrong at the back? Then the porn boys might be going double or quits at West Ham. Might not be the best market to be looking for impact players in for Rovers.
alexanders Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I would like to throw Erik Husklepp's name back in the mix. 10 goals in a lacklustre season from his teams point of view, where he spent much of the time on the wing produceing 10 assists. He has also shown great form on the national team, scoring 4 goals since August including 2 against France and the winner vs. Portugal in the Euro qualifier. He's fast and has great technique, the only set-back is his lack of heading qualites (despite his height of 1,88m) and his physique (even though he can bench over 100kg). He can play both as striker and winger and with Brann's economical situation they'll probably accept a fee between £1 and £1,5m. Also he's a natural PR machine, just look at this preformance with John Arne Riise and our own top scorer: I have to say I agree with you. MGP is also raving about his work ethics, his pace and his general personalty. Some guy you would like both on and off field. I guess MGP also raves to Sam and his team about Huseklepp and that we might be interested in trying signing him now we have a few quids. Huseklepp can both play right winger and Striker (Two positions Nicko said were priorities) and is very versatile and offers some real technique and pace. He can run the channels and seems to work very well with Gamst.
Smithy Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 If I'm being honest I'd hope for someone with a better record than 29 in 120 games for Brann.

I doubt we will compete with Arsenal, Chelsea or Man City for players. Although some fringe City players may be worth looking at, dont you think?

Although some fringe City players may be worth looking at, dont you think? Such as whom? They are all on crazy money as well. Maybe a loan and out of the lot of them I wouldn't be looking at SWP, if he can't find a club then perhaps Adebayor would come in on loan. And before you all jump on it, yes I realise its a long shot and highly unlikely but we need a striker more than a winger. Oh and I don't fancy Jo.
steo Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 A player i would love us to sign would be Benoit Pedretti from auxerre, ive watched a bit of auxerre the past while and his passing is simply brilliant he would walk into our midfield,he has a great range of passing that we sorely miss since tugay's retirement, defo worth a look don't think he would break the bank coz he is 30 i think.
RibbleValleyRover Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Any well known Indian players that might be seen as a target? From reading some of Mrs Desai's comments they would if possible like to bring in an Indian player, understandable really as it could be the perfect marketing opportunity back home. It might also help with the development of football there. I guess they could also look elsewhere in Asia as they seem to be expanding into other markets, places like Japan and Korea.

City will subsidize fees and even wages in most cases. You can count on that.

Someone mentioned an indian player on here that wasn't Chopra. Personnaly I'd sign him up he can't be any worse than our Keith. City will subsidize fees and even wages in most cases. You can count on that. Trouble is really we need one in straight away and I'd be surprised if he would come at the start of the window. Sam wants his gala signing, I'm hoping he can get one as it would be exactly what we need.
Bobby G Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Chopra is actually looking to play for India now I think I read somewhere.

The only player in the whole india squad not playing in india is Sunil Chhetri who has just signed for Kansas City Wizards so does not look like it unfortunatley....
mark Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Taarabt at QPR is class - i've seen him a couple of times this season and think he's exactly the type of player we need. Exciting, goalscoring, creative, can dribble... He's the reason they're top and only cost them one million!
Brandeburg Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 If I'm being honest I'd hope for someone with a better record than 29 in 120 games for Brann. Huseklepp was a late blooomer and got his breakthrough in 2009. He's got 25 goals and 23 assists in 60 matches during the last two seasons, in which he played just as many matches as a winger as a striker. He also got 4 goals in 9 caps for the national team this season, a team that plays a 4-5-1 formation based on a strong defence and quick counter attacks. He's like an E.H. Diouf just with pace and technique. I think he would be a great signing on the right wing.
Bobby G Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 He is a good player, nothing more. He is too old to develop further and at best will be a good squad player. Pre-takeover he may have been a decent shout at a small price, but I think we should be looking at a better crop of player.
Torgeir Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 He's like an E.H. Diouf just with pace and technique. I think he would be a great signing on the right wing. So he's not like E. H. Diouf then? Who btw has great technique. Huseklepp is decent but can he make a sudden impact for the first team? I doubt it, I think he will need time to develop and isn't in the right age group to invest in. The Norwegian Tippeliga is arguably weaker than it's been for years, possibly the same (sub) standard as the Croatian league - and look how well Kalinic has adapted...A loan with a view to buy would be okay, but I'd rather we looked elsewhere first.
67splitscreen Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Wide player very fast, good ratio of goals, last season he finished with 14 goals and 16 assists. Allegedly similar money to Lewandowski. (4-5m IMO it would be more) Would be a few clubs interested and probably would prefer CL football. Hows about Balazs Dzsudzsák of PSV. Rumours he wants out.

Juve's chief scout Fabio Paratici has been watching the fella from PSV.Cost around £8 million.
RoyRover Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Hows about Balazs Dzsudzsák of PSV. He is a quality player. Him and Ibrahim Afellay are their two best players and now that Afellay has signed for Barca, I can see Dzsudzsák going to a big club too. Someone like Tuncay would be a good bit of business for me. Robbie Keane would have been a good shout, but his wages are far beyond what we could give him and I doubt he would be willing to take a big cut.

Chicken feed for his qualities, doubt we have enough in the warehouse though, we could throw in a years supply of nuggets and the odd flu vaccine.
Torgeir Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Ireland would do it for me. You think he's available? We should sign Ronaldo from Corinthians on loan instead
