magicalmortensleftpeg Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Ireland would do it for me. Even after the weekend? If he looked disinterested playing for Villa I cant believe he'd give any more for us. Villa fans arent liking what they're seeing from him.

rovgers Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Ireland would do it for me. What, the country? I suppose somebody as to bail them out!
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Ireland would do it for me. Class player when he's in the mood. Trouble is he seems to have a screw loose somewhere. Big gamble.
brian_gallagher85 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 What, the country? I suppose somebody as to bail them out! We're cheaper than Steven and less mental too....(just about)
Hughesy Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Even after the weekend? If he looked disinterested playing for Villa I cant believe he'd give any more for us. Villa fans arent liking what they're seeing from him. Probably because if Houlier has a choice then he wouldnt have played...but Albrighton pulled out that morning. January is a tough time to sign good players for the correct price....for me the only players id take would be Carew as he should be relatively cheap...and Bentley if the price was right, although probably best waiting on that one too!

Bentley wont come back. Im pretty sure he'll avoid coming to us given any other option and im assuming that there will be 5/6 interested premiership clubs come January. There is no incentive for him to return after he burnt all his bridges in 2008. Same goes for the likes of Bellamy. Why go through the humiliation of returning to the club you initially left in order to progress your career when you could arrive at a similar sized club (ie Fulham/Brum etc) and not face any of that.. They're hardly Blackburn lads like Dunny.
Miker Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Even after the weekend? If he looked disinterested playing for Villa I cant believe he'd give any more for us. Villa fans arent liking what they're seeing from him. If he's a flop at Villa, doesn't mean he can't be a success with us. He was brilliant at Man City before Mancini took over and if he can be anywhere near the form he had back then we would easily solve our midfield problems. The fact that he's not doing very well at Villa right now just means his price will most likely drop and make him more affordable.

Miker Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I meant to add- he's the sort of gamble Sam likes ! I think he's grown pretty disillusioned with football after being shunted to the side by Man City despite his great work for the club and now playing a bit part role at Aston Villa. I think Sam can nurture his talent and personality, he'd find it easier playing in our midfield where he could be the star man. Him, Carew and Bentley would be fantastic acquisitions in January, if at all possible. I seriously doubt it, but those are the sort of players (great players, but out of favour at their respective clubs) I hope we sign. All of them have Premier League experience as well. We're better off looking at these sort of players with decreased market value (and therefore affordable), rather than players in form.

Top 5 teams (United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, City) - No Chance Next group - Bolton (£90m DEBT already admitted they may need to sell) Villa/ Sunderland/ Stoke (Perhaps would compete)...although Villa are more likely to go for young French lads under Houlier. If we have the right funds available...a solid platform to ply your trade on...and plans for the future...then THIS could be a GREAT place to be in the next few years. Add to that everyone knows how well the club is run...and also with abit of luck we could be looking pretty good by Jan.. All depends on the vision going forward.

Our games in December are very winnable, not easy, but winnable. We could very well be sitting pretty in the top half of the table and given our new investment, we might be an attractive place for players to come to. I didn't think it possible at the start of the season, but the unpredictability of the league so far means that we have as much of a chance of reaching the European spots as any other club. So it will be exciting to see what we can achieve by the end of the season. I think if we are in the top 10 by the time January comes around that will show promising signs for the club and be a huge morale boost for both the players and the fans.
steo Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Stephen Ireland is a complete tosser that won't play for his/my country, personally i wouldn't want him at rovers he is a complete loner with a couple of screws loose and would damage the atmosphere in the changing room,no manager can tame him not even big sam,no one like my suggestion of benoit pedretti he's a class act.

These are similar rumblings to when Rovers/Sparky took on the Bellamy headache. A bit of risk, yes. but the Gaffer kept him in check just long enough for a 6th. place finish. Now, Ireland doesn't guarantee that type of success, but who amongst us wouldn't jump on the chance to rehabilitate another problem child? Bentley Bellamy Sta Cruz Savage Robbo those are just the recent ones that spring to mind--- there's a bunch more including Kuqi that were 'rehabbed' and moved at a profit. If Ireland can be had we should jump as the guy's upside is fantastic. He's barmy... but not Joey Barton barmy. I have faith Sam will work out the kinks in his wiring.

There are players that need getting rid, Chimbonda for a start. I thought he was terrible against villa. Andrews and Grella, but January is a bad time to sell as well as buy. Roberts will be gone, so a little bit of money will be received for him.
Ricky Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Shows how opinions on players differ doesn't it, I thought chimbonda looked far better than Givet on Sunday.
chaddyrovers Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 We don't know how much we got to spend first in January. Has one of the Rao Brothers said on Sunday to sky, that the would be money to Big Sam if he needs it. Let's just wait and see in January who we sign. Big Sam will have his targets for the three position he wants new players. The 3 positions are a Striker, right winger and midfield playmaker.

47er Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Shows how opinions on players differ doesn't it, I thought chimbonda looked far better than Givet on Sunday. So did I! Givet should have caused the first goal after 2 minutes. Didn't track Downing at all. He's been doing that all season.
Bobby G Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Givet isnt a left back and sooner or later he shows up in that position. He has done a commendable job in there, but he is a center back and should be played there in the long-term (or should have been). But Nelsens form has improved this season and with Jones potentially a center back too, its a good headache to have. Ireland isnt worth it. He has had one good season and a series of off-the-field issues and mentality problems.
PAFELL Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Shows how opinions on players differ doesn't it, I thought chimbonda looked far better than Givet on Sunday. Chimbondas performance should have been better than Givet. After all the latter was sick. But Chimbonda made some daft passes and lost the ball in some vital areas. I am only going on what I saw on live TV. So did I! Givet should have caused the first goal after 2 minutes. Didn't track Downing at all. He's been doing that all season. I think, for one match only, we have to take into considration that Givet was sick. Hence him coming off at half time. Yes he was bad the half he did play.
bob fleming Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Chimbondas performance should have been better than Givet. After all the latter was sick. Sorry that it's off topic but Givet was also totally taken out by the ref at one point. A terrible challenge that left Givet in a crumpled mess on the half way line. The ref should have booked himself but simply waved play on.

I think he isn't a left-back.

DanLad Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Sorry that it's off topic but Givet was also totally taken out by the ref at one point. A terrible challenge that left Givet in a crumpled mess on the half way line. The ref should have booked himself but simply waved play on. Givet was limping for ages afterwards and that's when Villa sent everything down his side. If he was ill as well you can expect him to be off the pace. The ref should have at least had the decency to stop play following the collision. Good refs have common sense (despite the powers that be trying to stop them using it with inflexible 'interpretations' etc!) In think the ref was that young lad and he isn't up to much, IMHO. Seemed a bit clueless and lost. There'll be games where it gets nasty and he won't have a proper grip of the game.
