Nicko, any possibility of getting Manuel Fernandes from Valencia on loan?

According to the spanish press, he is being loaned out and 3 turkish teams have shown interest in him. Maybe Rovers can get him on loan with a buy out clause?

Another rumour is that Tottenham want Hleb in January, even though he is on loan at Birmingham. Are Rovers interested in him?

Loaned to Besiktas with a 8 million euro buy out.

I think people are deluded if you think we are definitely strong enough to stay up.

Last season Nzonzi played out of his skin and Dunn had a career Indian summer (pardon the pun) and was our top scorer. Both are out of the picture so far this season and if Dunny doesn't get those goals where are they coming from? On top of that teams I thought were a dead cert to go down are making a good fist of it so far.

So, if we keep most players fit all the time and they play to 90% of their ability for the rest of the season then we will probably stay up. If they don't we'll struggle.

We need some quality in the middle and a striker that a) is fit most of the time and B) scores goals

Just read here that Rovers are preparing to bid £2 million for Avdic, swedish striker from Eflsborg.

Anyone know if he is any good?

Some stats about him this season:

28 games in the national league, 19 goals, 4 assists in a total of 2157 minutes playing.

4 games in the Europa leaague qualification, 1 goal in a total of 306 minutes playing.

All games included:

36 games, 22 goals, 4 assists, 3 yellow cards, in a total of 2725 minutes playing

How we've done is not the point. What everyone else might do in the window, even if they are currently saying they don't intend to do much, is a potential problem. Also there are areas where our squad does not have enough quality to start with and then injuries to the players we do have make us very vulnerable. I don't see how we can afford to not spend at least a significant (for us)amount. Loans are all well and good but fill your side with them and all you do is put off the problem even further. Some loan signings if we can get decent ones, yes, but cash will have to be spent. Saturday showed what happens when Pedersen and Givet are missing from our usual line up and I don't want to watch anything like that again.

Pretty obvious we are going all out for a striker and, at the moment I'd put my money on it being Santa Cruz. The midfield is so bad we have to get at least one talented central midfielder in, probably of the Tuncay variety (not saying him necessarily).

And your last line is particularly pertinent. I've criticised Pedersen a fair bit but by God we missed him. the amount of work he does often goes unnoticed I think. So at least 2 to come in, possibly 3, whether buy or loan time will tell. Saturday was a warning though which we'd be stupid not to heed.

very good scoring record is that tbh. Kentaro have strong links with Sweden football, so that where that link could be coming from, but we were linked with him in the last transfer window. So Big Sam must know about him and like what he see. I would take him and an experience striker and get rid of Roberts and Benjani. both 32 years old now.

Then a midfield playmaker then please!

Some good clips of Avdic on Youtube. try to post them but it won't play the clips.

...I hope it's true he is transfer listed, but some of the details are worrying. We CHOSE to keep this clown rather than Jacobsen? I'd always thought it fell apart over Chimbonda's wages, I'm sure that's what the reports said. With the wage differences, the fact we could have had half a mill for Chimbonda instead of a nominal fee for Lars, and, IMO, that Jacobsen is more consistent...this has to rank as a very poor decision. Sod Pascal's supposed versatility...it's no use if he's that naff when he plays left back.

The league is too tight this year to be complacent.

To be honest, when considering our levels of investment in preceding year, we have no right to ever feel "complacent".

Keeping Rovers up and generally well clear of the relegation zone IS a heck of an achievement in such circumstances and in such restraints.

It doesn't mean that we should accept less, but we have to be realistic. Look who we finished above last year! Stoke, Fulham, Sunderland etc. Look at what they have spent...

We were lucky to encounter three weak sides (two through financial problems, one through the manager walking out at a critical moment) last year in the Prem. None of which are even in the play-off places now. This season, there are no such obvious weak links.

Is anyone else wondering why on earth we are considering RSC? before joining Rovers his career needed rescuing, at Ewood thanks to Hughes' management and Bentley's passing he had a good season. Then, like many players who have one good season, he becomes hot property and Hughesy is kind enough to give us £17m. This was always a ridiculous price for a one season wonder who since leaving Ewood, like many before him, have gone on to achieve nothing.

I cannot see any reason to sign RSC if we don't first get the players to supply the attacking balls so badly missing from our game.

No use in supplying attacking balls if no one plans to get on the end of them. RSC is a good player when fit, question is if he is going to be fit often enough. Sign him up.

West ham now want £10.5m off the FA for Ashtons injury!! If you didnt hate them enough before!! :angry2:

I think we should look at SWP on loan...he will add some much need pace, aswell as an ability to get balls into the box & he is a player that will get fans excited.

Then add Carew to the striking line...then run with that till summer.

MGP has made repeated mentions on his blog of wanting this chap to join Rovers, I think one of the Norwegian members of our forum has mentioned him too:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erik_Huseklepp

Maybe he's been having words with Sam?

Yeah... he's been mentioned before. Poor fella in that ad with Peds & Riise.

Less than 30 goals in five years of Norwegian football? No thanks.
