We have to remember that it's not only about the transfer fees, but wages also. From the top of my head I would imagine Jones costing us about £1M/yr at the moment in wages. Two £10M players from market would cost us £5M/yr in wages (£50k/w * 2). So if we assume that we'll have to sell Jones at summer 2012 because he wants to test himself at the highest level, we'll have saved £6M by keeping him until 2012 and not selling him now.

You haven't taken into account the expected finishes higher up the league table (with the intangible benefits that also brings).

Stupidity of the highest order would be to sell Jonesy boy to Scum U.

The Roa family would lose all credibility in Blackburn.

Cant believe fellow so called Rovers fans are discussing the thought as it would be purely seen as asset stripping of Rovers FC by Venkys and highlight an alarming weakness in their ability to take Rovers forward.

Er...it would only be asset stripping if they didn't provide the full transfer funds to Rovers.

Also, this guy does not own Blackburn Rovers:

It's three letters, seriously...

If you've got something already i.e in young Jonesy boy, then you simply build from there by adding to it, not take it away.

Is he? maybe in the long term, to replace Nelsen, but with the position he's playing now are we not better spending the money from his sale on a specialised midfielder?

Nelsen may need replacing in the near future (1-2 seasons) and Givet is by some accounts homesick. Jones is a talent and homegrown. Keeping his is necessary.

I agree with this. If the objective is to move the club forward, why sell the next Terry? Especially as he presents as a considerably better human being as compared to Terry MkI?

Why have a youth system if when you get good talent coming through Rovers sell them. We need to keep our best youth talent at the club and develop them. We have good talent coming through like Jones, Hoilett, Hanley, Ramm, Doran, Potts and Morris. Then we some good foreign talent like Nzonzi, Kalinic and Langanzi. So let's help them develop and keep the at rovers for a long time if they are good enough for the first time or the players decide that they want leave or we want they to leave!!!

Because we can strengthen multiple areas of the team by selling him maybe? What's worth more to our club, having Phil Jones at the back/in midfield or buying a 10 million striker, a 5 million creative midfielder and a 5 million defender to replace him?

It won't be an easy decision to make but if Sam has his eye on some expensive targets and we get a 20 mill offer I wouldnt blame him for selling. We may have less frugal owners but they're not made of money and 20 mill is still a huge amount.

Sounds good but never works. You sell Warnock, you end up with Chimbonda and Jacobson. You sell Bentley you end up with vast numbers of midfield players who aren't good enough.

Had we actually recieved the bulk of the proceeds from those transfers, things would have been different.

Always too tempting for the owners to keep something back. I've been watching Rovers too long to put any faith in that changing.Pickering?

Exactly. Totally different ownership. Just because the trust didn't reinvest the funds doesn't mean Venkys won't.

I would sell Jones if the offer was big enough 20-25m, and not until the end of the season and provided the manager got to keep the funds for a huge summer rebuilding process.

it's a hard decision as fan what is best with Jones, if we knew the extent of the budget for the next two windows it may or may nor necessitate the sale of him.

If someone did offer 20m in this window and if the reported budget is all we have, I'd say sell, as already mentioned 20m would strengthen in the key areas and help us regain some quality in the areas we are lacking.

Also as stated wages for three players or more is a big factor, I'm sure JW will not want it spiralling just because the Raos have a bit of cash.

Tough decision for the board and manager.
