Seems people are forgetting just how good RSC was when he was fit during the second season for us. He was sensational at OT playing as the loan striker.

Look forwards not backwards, great memories but its time to bring in a new face that will create similar memories.

It seems like extremely lazy management at play here, I maybe wrong though as its only speculation.

Was being the word. He was good but his knees are knackered. Which makes him no good now. Why sign a player who will hardly play, and take up one of the 25 man squad slots. It would be better to sign somebody that can play most of the games.

Even crespo would be better. 35 years old, but still playing. RSC younger, but with knackered knees. It is time to move on.

Anyone notice the lad Commons at Derby, a midfielder with lots of quality and energy who scores goals too!!

Wonder if he could make the step up to Prem level?

Been around a while now at Forest and Derby. Was suggested as a possible when he was younger but whether he could make it in the Prem, I doubt it now.

Wayne bridge has been linked with us this morning, i like the idea of us taking him on loan

Could think of worse players, he's great going forward but not a real defensive player, now as a left sided midfielder?? Gareth Bale with a little less pace!!!

I thought Spector had a pretty good game for WHU yesterday, playing in midfield. Possible option as he normally plays in defence. Always handy to have a player who can play in more than one position.

And I'd hope that the Scottish PL is better quality than League Two. If so, then the prospect that Blakman can step up is much greater than that confronting Andrews.

Apart from Rangers (when at full strength) and Celtic (spasmodically) it isn't, and its getting worse (as are the Old Firm). I've watched Blackman at Motherwell a few times this season, and I think he'll be a decent Championship/League 1 striker if he comes back to England. Many of his goals have been of the 'poacher' variety (we used to call them tit-liners at school!) or penalties, mainly against very poor defences. I also hear he wants to stay up here, which I wouldn't blame him for. I would refer you all to the SPL goalscoring feats of Kris Boyd if you're in any doubt.

I too have seen him play around 2-3 times this season, and around 15 times in the past for our youth & reserves & can honestly say he is nowhere near ready for the prem...hence why I think its too early!

According to the LT Sam & Williams have held discussions and the plans for January are an experienced premier league striker & a box to box midfielder

One deal we should seriously look at as a Loan option

Celtic are keen to take Aston Villa outcast Stephen Ireland on loan in January. (Daily Mail)

Yes he may be a screw loose but he is FAR better than anything we currently have in midfield.

If/when Wolves go down, I'd like to see a cheap deal for Kevin Doyle, 1-2 million max.

I thought he was their most dangerous player yesterday and dominated Samba from the first kick - not something i'm used to seeing! His work rate is top notch. His first season at Reading was pretty good - established International also.

Stating the obvious maybe but adding a quality midfielder would make a massive difference to us as a team. Currently the quality is lacking so much in that department.

Spot on John.

On the Roque issue, we already have plenty of crocks on the books so why add another? He's a decent player when fit but let's face it how often is he fully fit? It might not be a gamble financially if City subsidise part or most of the deal however it could be a big gamble on the pitch especially when this year looks like a close season. If Roque is the only striker we get in and he can't play due to injuries then that would be a complete waste of time, money and effort.

29 year old on big money with persistent knee problems= too much of a risk imo.

CAREW all the way for me….

Considering Carew is out of contract in summer….and doesn’t get on with Houllier (so 2 good points to work with) – I think we should offer a £2m deal take it or leave it to Villa.

For 2m he is a bargain…yes he’s 31…BUT he is a superb target man & great at holding up a ball…he is also very dangerous in the air – and also already knows MGP’s crossing ability so should work well with him

I'd prefer we looked for a striker with more potential BUT Carew would be a good January signing. Given the choice of a new striker or midfielder, it has to be the latter. We need someone who can link up with the frontman and gives us that quality in the final third. We can't rely on Dunn for the rest of the season.

Dont want Carew. Have been very frustrating at the national team way too many times. Is good in the air and holding the ball up put scuffs way too many chances.

I am not very good at target man and dont have any alternative though.

I dont understand this target man stuff anyway. There are many teams that play with 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 or 5-4-1 who doesnt have a very good big lad upfront, but are relaying more on pace and technique - but the expert is the xpert.

Me too - but as a cheap option, he offers us some quality for the next 18months - 2 years. He would add that 'premier league, experienced striker' that we need - whilst giving us abit more ability upfront...then in the summer we can look to add a more natural goalscorer to our ranks.

For £2m im sure it would also allow us to save some more cash for the midfield....maybe even Ireland on loan as 1 option, or nick Larsson for free in summer.
