Nicko Do you know who Allardyce may target when it comes to a box to box modfielder?

I have heard a couple of names but nothing standing up yet...and I have got to say a lot will depend on what Kentaro come up with too.

There is also due to be an attacker in for a trial shortly. But that one looks like an old-style Sam 'test' job. May name him in the paper tomorrow, but don't be holding your breath.

Interesting days all the same.

I must admit, I "love" how every time that there is a transfer window close, these types of threads turn into "Lets Have A Go At Nicko" threads.

Is he not entitled to his opinion like the rest of us?

Does he not give us good inside information, regardless of whether is comes off or not?

Frankly, I'm bored of reading Nicko giving some information only for ten people to start having a go at him for it.

I, personally, am thankful for Nicko's snippets of information. While I might not agree with every opinion he puts forward, it's always good to get a different perspective.

Now all you little eWarriors can get back to shouting using caps lock and bold.

I'm bored now, I'm sure there's people who agree with me, and people who agree with you.

Your piece presents one fact; that there is a meeting in India discussing the transfer policy. The rest you've decorated yourself.

Your bored - oh fantastic.

Nicko hasn't dressed / decorated anything up, there is a situation developing with in the club - that is news. We may not like what is written, but that is life.

It is my understanding that a reporters job is to report news. But they have limits as to what they can or cannot say. Maybe to protect sources so they can ask them again for imformation etc etc. Then there is the legal stuff, libels and slander etc etc.

Hopefully commonsence will prevail for the sake of the club etc. As well as the sanity of the supporters and this MB.

OK guys. So there is a meeting in India with Kentaro - who will advise Venky's of their available signings presumably. Why isn't that meeting happening with Sam present (Ewood would make sense, you know, where the football club is)?

Anyway, the conversation could possibly go something along the lines of: -

Venky's - "Sam, Player X is available, we can get him."

Sam - "He doesn't fit in with what I'm looking for I'm afraid. I'm not interested."

Venky's - "Well Kentaro say he's a really good player and..."

Sam "I don't want to sign him. I want to sign someone else"

Venky's "No, we've spoken to Kentaro and they advise us that player X could be worth a considerable amount of money in a few years."

Sam - "I doubt it, he's hopeless. Look, am I the Manager of the football team or not?"

Venky's - "Well to be honest Sam...."

Sam - "Sod this for a game of soldiers."

Would you bet against this happening anyone? Why would Kentaro and Venky's waste their time otherwise. Would Kentaro fly to India for a pointless meeting? Why would Kentaro waste time and money speaking to Venky's when in reality the man they need to convince, as is the general rule of thumb at the moment (i.e. when it works best), is the Manager of the Football Club.

The day Blackburn Rovers stops allowing the Manager to Manage is a sad day. (I don't include spending money we haven't got in that equation - something that Sam is well aware of and has been since the day he arrived I'd have thought).

I can only see trouble at t'mill.

Anyway, the conversation could possibly go something along the lines of:-

Venky's: player x is available do you want to take a look at him?

Sam: No

Venky's: that's fine.

I love conjecture.

Heard anything about this South Korean lad who my son tells me is coming on trial? Can't remember any of the details but it's in the press over there that we're looking at him

Actually, every thread usually turns into 'how dare anyone question the validity of Nicko's articles' until they're finally zergrushed by the newbies who only lurk around for a bit of transfer goss.

I believe there is an open invitation for that lad and he is one of those getting a mention just now. Just one complication - the Asian Cup runs in January so he would be tied up with that.

Mental block on his name right now. Apologies to the poster who PM'd me on this subject recently. I would have replied but pressed delete button instead.

Thank you Bob! I was just begining to think that I was the only one who saw the way things should be done. Maybe I did express myself rather too forcefully yesterday, but the important point I was at pains to make was that in any team strengthening situation it is always the manager that initiates things by deciding who he would like to sign and the reasons why. He then goes to the chairman or the board of directors and presents his case. They then discuss the matter thoroughly with the manager, and also look at the likely overall costs. If the costs are seen as too expensive or for any other reason agreement cannot be reached then an alternative target is agreed if possible.

Only then after all the above process has been completed can the manager make a move to get his man, and the important point is that that is the way ALL British clubs work. So for our new owners to change things around to seeking the advice of external consultants without first discussing the matter with either the manager or the chairman is down right insulting to both, even if their intention is to put the external consultants recommendations to the manager and chairman afterwards. It is the WRONG way to go about it and I have never known any other British club do it that way. The very least they should have done is to invite the chairman and the manager to the meeting with Kentaro so they could present their views and reasons properly.

The other midfielder is an old favourite. Foreign. Been mentioned before.

The trialist attacker is at another club just now. Been around. No mug.

Got to say that before the Kentaro meeting in India this week the word I was getting back was that 'there would not bemuch spending going on.'

So Big Sam isn't the only one seeking answers this week...it should all be very revealing.

Of course it could. However if you were Kentaro how many times would you travel to India to have a conversation, offer advice on your players only for them to be turned down? They're only going to do it unless there's money in it for them and if they believe there's a real chance of it happening. Similarly won't Venky's become frustrated listening to all of Kentaro's fantastic ideas only for Sam to rebuff them?

I love conjecture too. I just offered my thoughts on which way I see it going. I hope you're right, that Sam will have the final say. Time will tell.

The involvement with Kentaro would surely be about the players on Kentaro's books that could be available on loan, so the discussions between Kentaro and Venky's could be about availability and cost.

Possibly any further meetings between Sam and JW would be about any permanent signing/s that Kentaro had made cash available for?

Doesn't make for a good conspiracy though, I'm afraid.

Ok we know JW & Sam have met about targets...infact they had 'another list' ready for August if Syed pulled it off.

That could EASILY have been passed to Venky anytime in the last 4 months...they are then surely discussing those with Kentaro, and saying what about x, or do you have someone better for cheaper.

In a way its like we have 2 scouting networks for us.

Newbie? Fair enough, I suppose being on a forum for only two years would class me as a newbie.

I'm not saying that Nicko is 100% right. Sometimes people will change their story after talking to him. That is life. Nor am I saying that he is infallible.

What I am saying is that he does get a lot of abuse on here, particularly when something has happened opposite to what he's said. It seems there is a huge amount of glee taken when he has been proved wrong about something. Any no-one else on here as been wrong.

Just seems to be a huge amount of vitriol on here recently, not seen anything like this since the days of Vinjay.

I can only assume you're in someway referring to mine and nickos discussions today; If so please quote the posts where I've 'abused' nicko. I've been very respectful throughout, whilst questioning the article he wrote published today.

I feel I've been well within the bounds of decency as I've done so, I just feel needless negative press is what we need at the start of a new era for the club. Especially when the negativity is brought about with so little given substance.

There might be something in what nicko has suggested it, but he hasn't presented any information that has satisfied me to think that this is definitely the case.
