I wouldn't be expecting any major signings in January.

What make you say that BPF?

But I guess that depend on what Venky's wants tbh and how much they wanted to spend. With a top striker and midfield playmaker we could make Europe this season and that would mean more money coming into the club with TV rights and more coverage of Rovers in India with more games to screen!

Interesting times ahead for the New Owners and what kentaro and Sem are telling them and who to go for. Also who Big Sam wants and gets!!!

does anybody know if yakubu's fitness is alright following the achilles injury that kept him out for a season or so? his premiership record is class at 78 in 206. he's still only 28 and can't have much left on his contract (signed for everton in '07).

if fit then he's my man.

The other midfielder is an old favourite. Foreign. Been mentioned before. - Sanli Tuncay?

The trialist attacker is at another club just now. Been around. No mug. - Paul Furlong?

Got to say that before the Kentaro meeting in India this week the word I was getting back was that 'there would not bemuch spending going on.'

So Big Sam isn't the only one seeking answers this week...it should all be very revealing.

Ok we know JW & Sam have met about targets...infact they had 'another list' ready for August if Syed pulled it off.

That could EASILY have been passed to Venky anytime in the last 4 months...they are then surely discussing those with Kentaro, and saying what about x, or do you have someone better for cheaper.

In a way its like we have 2 scouting networks for us.

Midfield player:- any chance of it being Micheal Bradley who is a box to box midfield player.

I think that Big Sam should have the final say who we sign NOT Venky's or SEM/Kentaro. But there is nothing wrong with Venky's meeting with SEM/Kentaro to see who is available on their books or suggest names to Big Sam for positions that we need to fill! But we do need a striker with Premiership Experience tho.

Also do we know who was at the Meeting that took place??? How do we not know that John Williams and Big Sam was not at the meeting via video link or by phone?

This occurred to me this afternoon. Sam and JW are always a phone all away for Venkys. For all we know, they've had weekly teleconference meetings and have agreed on the players they are interested in with Venkys and the meeting is to negotiate price. We shouldn't jump to conclusions just yet.

And I would dearly love to see Michael Bradley in a Rover shirt. :rover:

Surely no one here is surprised with that.

Whilst I personally am not completely averse to the potential recruitment of RSC, playing devil's advocate, many might say we need the extra input of Kentaro if the best idea Sam can come up with is Roque and his dodgy knees.

You can't have it both ways nicko, weren't you fiercely critical yourself of the idea of bringing in Roque?

Sam wants new blood and "experienced" PL players. The new owners don't want to spend a lot. Newcastle apparently has money problems and wants to get tough in negotiations with players whose contracts are soon up. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Newcastle-chief-Mike-Ashley-will-refuse-to-hand-over-a-big-transfer-budget-to-his-new-manager-but-will-give-him-five-full-seasons-in-charge-of-the-Magpies-article646443.html As Sam knows many of these players, he might consider raiding them in January and this summer, working with under the theories of sticking with what he knows and weakening Newcastle, a competitor, all in one go. With that in mind, I prepared a list of Newcastle players soon out of contract.

At least one Newcastle players is out of contract summer 2011, and that is Steven Taylor a CB who can also play RB and LB. There may be others but I'm not sure if they are any good.

First team Newcastle players who are out of contract summer 2012 include:

José Enrique, LB

Danny Guthrie, CM

Shola Ameobi, FW

Alan Smith, MF/FW

Peter Løvenkrands, FW

Joey Barton, MF

I think the situation is being blown well out of proportion by the sensationalists amongst us ;)

Does nobody think that this situation wasn't discussed at the most initial meetings between Rovers and Venky's?

I can't imagine the club was sold with the situation of 'who's has the final say on transfers' up in the air...

The most sensible post on here.

The new owners have only been in charge for less than a month and I am quite sure in takeover negotiations the subject of player recruitment and who had the final say would have been covered in some detail.

THe Trustees must either have been happy that despite input from Kentaro the final say on player recruitment lay with the Board and the manager OR if that was not to be the case they must have sold the Club anyway in full knowledge of that fact. Either way I can't believe Sam's and Jw's opinions were not canvassed by the Trustees along the way and as such it's hard to believe the situation (whatever it may be) is coming as a complete shock to them.

I have to say I am astounded by the sudden about face from the LT in their attitude towards the new owners. For years there has not been a word of criticism from them uttered by them against the Club or the previous owners no matter what happened, now the new guys have been at the helm have only been in situ for a few weeks yet this story breaks. Why are they not getting the same unquestioning adulation from the LT the Trustees received?

The Trustees were quite happy to sell to the new owners less than a month ago. What's changed in that time? It stands to reason that new owners will want to do things somewhat differently than old ones. Otherwise what's the point?

Let's see what actually happens with transfers and who actually comes in before predicting the end of civilisation as we know it.

Sam has long been linked with Alan Smith. The devil's advocates amongst us might say that's another decent point in favour of recruiting some extra outside assistance such as Kentaro.

Not for the first time, Revidge is completely missing the point.

There is nothing astonishing at all in the LT coverage if you consider that yes, everything was discussed and agreed, then the spokesmen for Jerome Anderson announce live on Sky that what has been agreed is being totally disregarded followed up by a Mirror headline that Sam is being undermined or words to that effect and stuff on this MB that the inevitable sparks are going to fly and that ths is totally consistent with what he had been posting for weeks.

What Nicko posted on here over the past few weeks included that Sam would inevitably be under pressure when new owners take over and that Jerome Anderson could be our new Chairman at some stage...

Is the LT article a surprise?

I will happily repeat, I will be absolutely delighted if in a week's time my posts are regarded as the deranged ramblings of an old drama queen. I will be even more happy if Newcastle United's players are easily available on the market.

Ameobi is the only one worth a shot really. If we're going for Newcastle players though then I want Carroll :)
