Just read The Sun and Daily Telegraph stories. It's basically a repitition of what has been out before.

However I do detect that someone inside the building is quite happy to stir this up on top of the info that was out there before. Intriguing.

From what I hear after the 'summit' there will be money to spend and the plan is to land a 'name' in the window.

Not sure if that is a 'name' on loan or to buy.

But the bottom line is that the owners want somebody who will put them in a good light.

Who comes up with the idea is another matter.

The bottom line, though, is WHO is signed.

To buy a 'name' could mean good prudence is going out of the window. One name leads to another name. I hope not, but Leeds and pompey come to mind when it comes to over spending.

They might want a name. I'd prefer a couple of guys who could play decent quality football in the positions we need strengthening. Success is the criterion most of the kids I work with look at. Success attracts bigger names; big names, as we see at other clubs, don't automatically bring success. I know my opinion counts for nowt, but, even if in your dreams a player like Messi(I know it's totally impossible but I use the name just as an example) were to come, he couldn't do it all himself working with some of the players we have now.

Totally agree.

I'd like it if we could look past players that once played for us, if I'm being honest.

Surely there are enough footballers in the world that we don't have to go back for Bentley/RSC/Bellamy, regardless of their abilities.

I think it shows how far we fell under the trust. People harking back to the good old days when we could buy decent players.

I agree that we should be stretching our net further than just re-signing Hughes signings, regardless of how good they WERE.

I suspect an effort will be made to get a 'star' that all parties would be happy with.

But ultimately the people who pay the money will want to be happy about the choice.

Personally, I`m excited come January - I think the team needs new blood and improvment - If we are bringing players in who are of better quality than we have already, then I`m happy. I`m not too bothered if tehy come from Sam, or Kentaro to be honest as I care solely about the club and the team and the money I pay to go and watch them every week (when at home).

If a big name comes, great, if we get 3 medium names and improves the starting 11, then great ! exciting times in my opinion :-)

Not to interested in the politics !

All true but this a different (kettle of chickens) type of owner who has a brand to promote (Venky's) a big name signing gives them the credibility they seek in India, supporters, sponsorship Etc.

As Ms. Desai said winning is not everything, scary.

A lot of the kids I work with are of Indian origin and believe you me, they support sides that have success. If you are successful then you attract good players, but the level of name we could currently attract would not be willing to come without ludicrous wages. Start winning and move up the league and then you'll suddenly see players more willing to come to us. The Champions league and to a lesser extent the Europa league are so important now that without a place in one of those you have little chance of attracting quality players except those like Salgado coming to the end of their careers and wanting to play in the Prem before they retire.

So you want our policy to disregard abilities, and discount players on the basis of them having played for us previously?

I know where you are coming from spending much of my time in Thailand and agree, evolution!, however I have a feeling that the owners may see it a little differently.

Sam's problem is that, in the new owners' eyes, he's not got the strongest case on spending their money.

"He brought in 3 right backs? How did that work out?" "Well, one has gone already, one has been told to eff off and the one who stayed is 35 and will need replacing soon anyway"

"Hmmm. OK, so how did that big money signing work out?" "A goal every 8 games and sitting on the bench"

They are hardly going to just send over a large cheque.

I also suspect the advisors have marked their card that they are going to have to establish early how they want the relationship with the manager to work, otherwise he's going to tramnple all over them.

Hmmmm! If I didn't know already I woud guess from that post that you really don't like Mr. Allardyce.

Bellamy

Most exciting player we’ve had on the books since Shearer, if entertainments what you want, and I do, then Bellamy would fit the bill.

But he won’t come back, that’s for sure.

You're probably right, but we don't know what they think so no harm in saying how I feel it should be, just in case they are listening. :xmas:

We should be all over this if he's available - exactly the type of player we need:

"Real Madrid youngster Sergio Canales could be in line for a shock move to the Premier League to either West Ham United or Bolton Wanderers. Prior to leaving Racing Santander in the summer, the 19-year-old Spanish sensation had been strongly linked with moves to Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool, and having played just 94 minutes for Jose Mourinho’s side this season, the attacking midfielder is considering leaving the Bernabeu. (talkSport)."

I think if Venky's/Kentaro do sign there own players Sam will leave although I think he could be appeased if for Instance They signed 2 players one of Sam's choice one of Venky's/Kentaro.

I know it would be far from ideal but at least there would be some middle ground.....

Signing a "name" player is fine if you have fortunes to spend. Jack went down that road, knowing that once a top player came to Ewood, then other top players would follow. That "name" signing doesn't make sense though, if you can't follow it up with other top players - and I don't think VH will be in that market.

So for me, forget the "name" and sign the players that will take us forward through ability instead, name, or no name.

Sam Allardyce has made bringing in a striker his number one priority in January and is targeting either Robbie Keane or Jo.

http://www.setanta.com/ie/Articles/2010/12/08/Allardyce-eyes-forwards/gnid-82746/

No thanks to both. Keane had his best years first time round at Spurs and I don't see it coming back, and who could forget Jo for Everton against us?

Do you mean Juan Roman Riquelme, 32 years old and currently playing in Argentina (only in 2 games by the way)? No Thanks.

And David Suazo, 31 years old, currently injured and hasn't played this season? No thanks.

We already have old and injured players. Those players would bring nothing except more work to the medical staff.
