Tim Southampton Rover Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I think it's got to be someone who is proven on the biggest stage for us to fork out so much money. I'm not sure how much we've got to spend but they've got to make in impact from day 1. I personally think it'll be Landon Donovan especially as he usually comes over to the Premier League in January due to the MLS break.
Bobby G Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Wont be Quaresma who is happy in Turkey. For me based on rationale, Id say Muntari, or possibly Donovan, although could he be classed as a midfielder.
S15 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I think it's got to be someone who is proven on the biggest stage for us to fork out so much money. Hmm I dunno if it's 'arguably' our record transfer it suggests between £7m and £8m, and I'm not sure you get someone who's fully proven on the biggest stage for that.
Ricky Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I'm thinking Diarra or hopefully Robben. Need someone with a bit of creativity.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I wouldn't mind Muntari because he would easily get into our first team in midfield but I just think we need someone with creativity and can give a team something which can change a game without us having to rely on David Dunn.
Amo Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I wouldn't mind Muntari because he would easily get into our first team in midfield but I just think we need someone with creativity and can give a team something which can change a game without us having to rely on David Dunn. Which is why I hope it isn't Diarra or Sissoko. That won't help the major failing of our team.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I'd love to see Robben here but I really can't see why he would want to come to Blackburn especially whilst at a major club like Bayern. Surely bigger and better teams out there would snap him up if he did become available.
G Somerset Rover Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 How the heck could we get Robben???!!! Some people are living in dream land. I reckon Muntari is the best shout.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Just found this huge list of foreigners who have played in the Premier League. If anyone doesn't have anything better to do then feel free to go through it and post any possible talent Foreigners played in the Prem.
Bobby G Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Robben? He signed at Bayern for 25 million Euros. And why would he ever move from there? Plus he is injured till February. Muntari makes sense as a box to box midfielder. How much appetite does he have right now though? Diarra is a completely defensive midfielder. Is that our priority right now? I dont think so. I hope not.
Andy Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Landon Donovan is most realistic possibility for me, though obviously L.Diarra and Mascherano are the 'dreamland' preferences. Suppose we aren't too bad for defensive midfielders (when/if everyone is fit), so it has to be an attacking option.
Majiball Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Really? Isn't the Ajax model about developing young players and selling them for a small fortune? That's the kind of path a club of our size should be emulating. There's a lot riding on Phil Jones. Do we hope he becomes the next Bobby Moore or do we take £20m and sign 3-4 quality players to strengthen the squad? That's a big question for the manager. I don't want Jones to leave, but at the same time we have to be realistic. We could go and use the sale of Jones to go out and buy 3 good players & it would most likely be the best option. But I wouldn't for all the tea in china. Jones looks like he has serious potential and if he can develop as hoped, he can only really help take Rovers up the table. I also don't feel it would be the best option for his development, here he's a key player, there? Playing week in week out is exactly what he needs right now and here he will get that. Also given we've just been taken over with the promise of change IE we are no longer a selling club and they have said the ambition is to establish us firmly in the top half. You'd have to hope they would resist temptation, we've watched our best players leave the second a decent offer comes in for years and doing so again sends the wrong signals, resisting however. I think its more than realistic to retain him provided everythings communicated effectively should the afore mentioned events transpire and because he wants too. Don't forget he is a Rover and just like every other kid coming through the youth system they spend all their time dreaming of playing in the first team. But since he's a fan and combined with a "new era" surely as a fan you'd want to be part of it and see where you could go? He's got the best part of 14+ years ahead of him (injuries provided) playing top level football there's plenty of time for titles and champions league football, should he become what we all hope he can. I wouldn't necessarily say it was to sell for profit in reference to Ajax, more about producing players for their first team and to play "their way". You don't see many 18-19 year olds leaving Ajax, they are generally a bit older and after they have played for them for a while and its almost always on their terms. We need to do similar because if the way forward is to emulate the likes of Ajax, Sporting, Espanyol etc, then we need to get to that "level" first.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 This was in the Mirror paper last month: Muntari's agent Frank Schreier said: "It could be that he will leave in the January transfer window, we have to arrange a meeting in the next few days in Milan to discuss his future, and then we will know the conditions of a transfer." Good sign that it could be him. Also if he hits a certain number of appearances then Inter have to pay Pompey more money.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Elano According to the net, he's just signed for Santos a few days ago.
herbergeehh Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Mark Gonzales Mathieu Flamini Lassana Diarra andres d'alessandro Muntari Zokora Sissoko Nery Castillo Manuel Fernandes Quaresma Tiago Mendes Landon Donovan Belhadj Prince-Boateng Mauro Zarate Robben, Reyes, Mascherano and Xabi alonso doesn't rhyme with Blackburn for me. My preferred choices in bold. 8m is alot, I think we might be talking about someone still playing in the PL.. or has Nicko confirmed that they now play outside the Premiership?
Bobby G Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Zarate is doing too well at 2nd place Lazio, so I say no way. Flamini got injured for a month yesterday so I doubt it too, and he is playing for Milan more than not now. Muntari, D'alessandro, Gonzalez, Lass and Donovan are names that make more sense than not.
herbergeehh Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 8 million pounds though - Donovan, Muntari, D'alessandro.... no way. Dos Santos, Taarabt, Aquilani.... I'm gonna go do something more constructive now.
Bobby G Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Inter paid 16m for Muntari or something around that. How much do you think MLS will want for their star player Donovan? No way less than 6-8. D'alessandro might come for a bit less from Internacional though. And nicko did not say a definite record fee but a possible one.
herbergeehh Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Hm, you might be right. I guess we will see... Muntari is starting to sound like the plan here, not sure I'm that enthusiastic about it. But what do I know... On a side note- the very talented midfielder Harmeet Singh is linked with a move to FC Copenhagen today. Yes, he's Indian Norwegian, not capped for Norway yet. Would LOVE to see us go for him.
herbergeehh Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I personally think he will become a top player. Only 20 years old, but very likely to break into the Norway set-up soon. He's been dominating as a central midfielder for Vålerenga this season, playing in a demanding role with both attacking and defensive responsibility. He scored five goals, and had eleven assists.. I like him because he plays to his strengths, and rarely loses possession. People will disagree with me, but in my opinion he would strengthen our central midfield today - and certainly in the future.
broadsword Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Please not Anderson. That lad is a crock of @#/? from what I've seen. It would be more of a favour to Fergie than giving him a foot massage.
