beerwins Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Giovani dos Santos, my guess, had a good world cup and really has'nt had a chance since like many others at spuds. He would fit the price bracket, maybe a bit less and would be a great player in the hole for us.

S15 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 The only way Allardyce will ever consider changing his style of football is possibly with better players, and we now look able to bring a few in, so things are looking up. I honestly believe Allardyce's football is identical to Hughes.' Direct yes, but it makes a hell of a difference who the ball drops to. Like Hughes he only wants football in the final third. Non of our players can play football particularly well. Hopefully now we will start to see my theory prove to be correct.

AJW Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 N'Zogbia probably best shout so far foreign , PL experience , still young enough to be classed as improving , £8m + rated and as Nicko alluded to , why would we want/need Bentley if we land N'Zogbia and we know he's unsettled at Wigan
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Yep, totally agree with you MGM. I thought the idea of us having funds meant that we were no longer a selling club. We've never bettered ourselves by selling our better players and that wont ever change. If the time comes when we have no option to sell him, then OK he'll have to go. Let's not be wanting rid of a good player though. 'Wanting rid'... Do you think that we WANT to sell? We never wanted to sell Duff/Bentley/Santa Cruz etc it was just that the bids that were made for them were too good to turn down. If a bid of £15m+ comes in for Jones I dont think we can reasonably expect the club to hold out for much more. No one likes to see decent players leave but every player has a price and if someone is willing to pay big big money then we, like any other club in the division, would sell.
chaddyrovers Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 could well be Charles N'zobgia. do we really need a winger tho?
S15 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Wrong thread. Not really. I'm suggesting that the 'Ins and Outs' of this window will show the true colours of the managers preferred style. Just as appropriate to this thread as your post was. could well be Charles N'zobgia. do we really need a winger tho? We need two.
nicko Posted December 11, 2010 Author Posted December 11, 2010 Terrific stuff all round. Somebody got it too. Mind you, I think every name possible out there got mentioned. I think the full tale will be out in the morning. I will add any details that are missed out. On a separate note. From what I hear there are still THREE positions down to be filled. Right wing, midfield playmaker and striker. A few top people at the club watching TWO of those today. Think they have made up their minds on the 'biggie' in midfield, but sounds like the other midfielder is still very much under review. Interesting days. For a change.

Blueboy Downunder Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 so do we have to buy nicko's paper tomorrow morning to find out who this geezer is?? any clues nicko??

Do you know why we arent going for a left back? Surely the performances from Givet and Chimbonda should be enough to make that a number 1 priority!

Is he a centre midfield player nicko? I reckon that the two players been watched today are Charlie Adam and Charles N'zogbia!
imy9 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I am reading into what Nicko had said to mean that the bug money signing is a defensive midfield player, as we are still looking at three other players, including a creative midfield player, wonder how much money we are going to spend!

Me too. Why on earth would we splash money on a defensive midfielder. I hope Nicko proves you wrong
BRFC1995 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Ryan Babel is another guess from me hope not.......fella ain't a footballer, just someone fast should be doing athletics serves no purpose on a football pitch
beerwins Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I would have thought left back was more important than right wing in all honesty, we have at least 3 players who can play right wing but left back we have one who is a centre back.

We should rebuff any interest. But if e.g. Chelsea are persistent, then tell them bidding STARTS at 30(thirty) million. That should put them off. £15 million is much too low for the future England captain

Looks like we will be spending well in excess of the 5 million mentioned. I would say it is looking more like 12-15 Million would you agree Nicko?
Amo Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Im rubbing my eyes is disbelief that some people would consider selling Jones. First time since Duff we have had a true world class talent coming through, people want to flog him off. We were practically a one-man team with Duff, as he was an established PL winger. Jones has a lot of potential, but we've seen spirited young English defenders come and go over the years. They're not really comparable.
