JAL Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Only just got online now but wow... Could I ask what did our beloved Jack Walker know about football before he purchased Rovers? He was a fan and probably the greatest benefactor of all time but did he make his money through football? I am in no comparing Uncle Jack with the VH Group but they have done anything yet, yet the bile is oozing out of you. Phillip (through a financial analyst) has said that the VH Group are one of the most well known businesses in India, he went further by saying that they are very trustworthy and have a reputation (very good one) built over THIRTY years- now with that basis why are you not willing to give them a chance? Why do you feel that being IN the championship is better than these guys? IF they only give us £5 million, that is £5 million more than the trust are willing to give. I havent read anything that says £5m now, then more and more money in the years and months to come after this january window. £5m now may well be the last of their investment into the club which is one of the many concerns I have about this takeover.

Torgeir Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Not true. If there was something wrong with his background then he wouldn't get it, no matter how much he wanted it. The statement from him saying the he didn't "receive sufficient cooperation" from our current owners says everything to me. I somehow think the owners would say exactly the same about Syed but they aren't very talkative. Anyhow I guess you have valid point.

She said: "Initially there will be £5million put in, straightaway, to buy players but of course if we have to do more then we will. There will then be much more investment and we have devised a spending strategy already for the next three years that will see the manager given significant funds to buy players.” I'm not saying to take her words as gospel btw, but there's enough misinformation going around already without adding more. She has said that extra cash will be made available after the initial 5M, this quote was also in the LT I believe.

duffbear Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Syed Ali Withdraws From Takeover Process I would say with this quote the deal with Venkys is sealead and Syed maybe has made this comment after being given the courtsey from the Rovers board who may have contacted him to thank him for his interest but they would be going with Venkys? What do you think. I would be very suprised if we dont get an announcement before the end of week.....

nicko Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Been with Dave Whelan today - the best owner you never had. What a fabulous gent he still is. One of the best thinkers and doers in the game. Very interesting tale from him. And a decent 'take' on the Rovers situ. If the Mirror does not use it in full I will fill the gaps in the morning. Congrats to Kamy on the Syed scoop - as usual. And, by the way, is that the sound of someone drowning in the Med that I hear in the distance...

Unfortunate with Dave Whelan really in that he is from the same era as Jack. We didn't do too badly with Jack at the helm though
nicko Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Unfortunate with Dave Whelan really in that he is from the same era as Jack. We didn't do too badly with Jack at the helm though Dave and Jack were from roughly the same era. However if there had been a bigger gap - or he was younger now - he would have been a terrific owner for you. A true football man.
Blackburn Ender Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I can concur with Nicko re Dave Whelan. Old school. He would have made a good successor to Jack Walker, but his business, property & sporting interests were/are tied up with Robin Park in Wigan. And fair play to him. Wigan are doing very nicely under benign, local ownership. Now, back to the Walker Trust selling us down the Ganges.......
SamTheShrew Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 For sure, no denying that. British and a fan - ticks all the boxes
booth Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Unfortunate with Dave Whelan really in that he is from the same era as Jack. We didn't do too badly with Jack at the helm though Why unfortunate? Not getting on your case, genuinely wondering what you mean. Dave Whelan loves his football, seems to be quite ruthless in business. He would have made a good owner were his heart not in Wigan. So Venky it is then.
jim mk2 Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Quotes from Dave Whelan today on Ronnie Clayton and Lancashire clubs in general 1 SOCCER Wigan Nightlead WHELAN CALLS ON KIDS TO KEEP IT REAL By Ken Gaunt, Press Association Sport Dave Whelan believes talented youngsters would be better off honing their craft in small town teams rather than wearing the colours of the elite. The Wigan owner made his comments as he paid tribute to former Blackburn team-mate Ronnie Clayton, who died last week.A one-club man, Clayton made 665 appearances for Rovers and won 35 England caps. Whelan would like to see more local lads playing for their local teams - but knows he needs to change the mentality of parents. He said: ``If any youngsters become available the dad wants to say, 'My son plays for Manchester United.' ``I keep trying to give advice that youngsters will do much better playing for Wigan, Bolton, Blackburn and Burnley because the openings there are much better.``When you go to Manchester United you are taking on the whole world. It is the same at Liverpool and Manchester City. ``All the people in and around Lancashire who want their youngsters to play for Liverpool and Manchester United should think twice.'' With manager Roberto Martinez at the helm, Whelan has promised he would not stand in a promising player's way if a top team came calling. Whelan said: ``Roberto now wants youngsters and we have been signing youngsters. We bring them on , get them going and push them up. ``I will not stop those players going to the top six teams in the world or the Premier League. So, mums and dads, put your sons in clubs where they will get an opportunity.'' Whelan said Clayton would have graced any team on the planet and added: ``What would he have been worth today? The kind of player he was Ron would have been priceless. ``Ron could not stop running, he was up and down the pitch the whole game. What any team would give to have him in their midfield. He could play in the finest team in the world.'' Whelan suffered another devastating blow over the weekend with the death also of John Benson. Benson carried out a variety of tasks at Wigan, including those of manager, assistant manager and general manager.Whelan said: ``John was a great fellow and got us success. He was a quiet man but very effective in his work.``He told me three weeks ago he had been diagnosed with cancer and I was shocked. It is awful to lose a pal like that.''end
