[Archived] Rovers Takeover: End game ?

I think it's obviously why venky's are trying to buy us. How many of us had heard of them before they made a move for the club?? Now Pretty much everyone with a interest in sport or business will now know who they are and what they do. They must see great opportunities in Europe etc. We know the price etc has been agreed, only a few minor things are left to iron out. I can't help but feel they are holding back simply due t our position in the league, if we hadn't won yesterday by the end of November we could be bottom. This will make us look very unattractive as I'm sure the costs of relegation will have been spelled out to them.

Apologies for the 'no show' in the People this morning. Must have written it a bit too low key.

Going to re-load for the Mirror tomorrow.

By the way, there were some interesting faces at the game...more of that in the morning too...in the Ins and Outs thread.

.

Do I understand there was no Rovers v Wigan match report in the paper today ?

If so it's no surprise the People's circulation is in freefall.

I agree with most of your post but I don't think this part is right. Mrs Desai said in her interview the 5M was an initial figure, and that they'd give much more money to us if need be. Some posters on here have suggested Venky's in not worth much as a company, but others have suggested they're worth quite a bit. Their valuation is all speculation, really, but it doesn't seem right based on the current evidence to suggest Venky's don't have the money or will to invest in us.

TBH I don't know what to think or believe which is why I feel it's so important for Venky's to explain their position. One would hope the current poll standings, mine is "undecided," will not influence the purchase but it must be a concern, I can see why Venky's have chosen to say little but on the other hand if one wishes to get the support onside it's very necessary. As for the money issue, I'm confused, I don't understand the exchange nor the Indian terms for large sums despite the best efforts of many on hear. If the trust think they have the cash I'm sure they have. My concern mainly focuses around £5m which is such a little sum to speak about it would have been better unmentioned. This £5m makes me wonder if our prospecyive new owners do understand what they are getting in to?

Obviously you didn't have enough chicken jokes in there.

Was this one of the faces?

The poverty of yesterday's performance underlined for me the urgent need for a deal to go through. Whether or not this is a good deal remains to be seen but it really does look as though we have no option. The problem as I see it is the squad needs a massive overhaul and from what we have been told Venky's do not have the cash, or perhaps the will, to do this. £5m in January will go nowhere, we need at least £25 - 30m to sort out the current squad, and it should not be done in January. The manager needs to be spending in January with an eye to how he would like to rebuild the squad, the problem with this is it's not clear who the manager will be in 6 months time.

It's not clear where we'll be more like. Should he be buying players to keep us in the prem or players to get us out of the Championship?

btw if we need 25m then we are history. Who in their right minds would stick that much into BRFC to spend on football players? Venckys are buying into a headache for which there is no remedy.

By the way, there were some interesting faces at the game...more of that in the morning too...in the Ins and Outs thread.

Care to specify which Alan?

I'd imagine the In part is what he's angling towards, I doubt that many of our players would be attracting much interest, coupled with the fact that another clubs background staff being in the stands for a game happens most games now anyway.

....having just said that I bet it was the Spurs chief scout watching Jones

There were two Indian chaps, sitting in the samw row that the Rao brothers sat last weekend...two rows back from the front of the director's box.

The match report was in ok, just not the takeover story follow-up.

Just occurred to me this morning - what is the POINT of the takeover?

From the supporters' perspective it is to provide a new source of financial backing and to increase the potential for the club to stay in the top flight. (other views are possible too)

From the Trust perspective it seems to be to cut their losses and to sever the connection to the club.

From the VH perspective... ? What really does the VH group achieve by acquiring Rovers, bearing in mind the primary purpose of any commercial enterprise is to make money?

Nothing I've read on here since the Venkys approach was made public really convinces me that we have been told what the real motivation is. But until we know for certain, it is difficult to know how to react to the possibility.

I know where you are coming from with this and, from reading bits and pieces on here, I'm forming the opinion that it's to increase the exposure of Venky's to a wider (worldwide?) audience.

Much like bubble here...

I think it's obviously why venky's are trying to buy us. How many of us had heard of them before they made a move for the club?? Now Pretty much everyone with a interest in sport or business will now know who they are and what they do. This will make us look very unattractive as I'm sure the costs of relegation will have been spelled out to them.

...But if it's just about have putting their name up in lights, why not just sponsor our shirts - or even the shirts of a Champions League club? Or even some other type of advertising. Must be cheaper than buying (and running) an English football club in the current climate.

So if it's not just about advertising, perhaps we are a means by which to earn money through the TV income. Keep us for a while and then sell later on without making a loss - with the growth of their main businesses being worth the hassle.

The concern with that angle is: are they comfortable with the risk they are taking? Okay we are fairly cheap (given our comparatively low debt) but if we are relegated it all falls over. Have they looked at the Trust's business model and thought, we can do that. But it's a big gamble, particularly if they don't spend the necessary money to keep us in the PL and maintain the TV income.

Alternatively, given the booming economy in India, now and in the near future, are Venky's simply the first Indian owners in the PL/Europe? Perhaps there are great opportunities for Venky's to make money, e.g. in 2013 when the current Sky deal ends will there be an opportunity to sell TV coverage direct to a more developed Indian market?

Fingers crossed it's the latter.

The potential new owners were there today in the directors box. Also hope that John Williams stay on as Chairman and most of the board stay at the club.

Interesting that......I wonder if they were the two Indian looking guys I saw walking in through the Directors entrance at around 2pm. Although the two I saw were nothing like the pictures posted on this site of Mrs Desais two brothers. These two were just like any typical well dressed business men, and both had neat western hairstyles and were clean shaven.

You would have thought that in their position,as very probable new owners of our club, that the first thing to do would be to communicate with the fans and get them onside.....the silence has been deafening so far.

Regardless of now many millions these people can throw around, working class supporters are the lifeblood of this club, always have been and ALWAYS will be.

It's something they should do when they have bought the club.

What communications are there between the Trustees and the fans, by the way?

The only communication was soon after Jack died, when they told all the rovers fans that the trust was there to financially support the club for the forseeable future. They told us that "Jack wasn't a short term man" and "there is no suggestion of the funding drying up". That's all they've ever said.

ALL HERE.

don't think there is any communications between the Trustees an the fans. Rovers and fans have a fans forum each month to discuss some issues.
