Bing Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 I do worry about it, but wasn't Rio treated in the same way when he was younger? Used in midfield to accommodate him? In his West Ham day it wasn't uncommon for him to play at centre forward. Sol Campbell also played up front and at both full-back positions before settling into centre half.

tony gale's mic Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 Surely a risk of becoming a 'jack of all trades, master of none?' I'd rather develop him into an excellent centre back than a good centre back and reasonable midfielder. It should develop his skills on the ball. Defenders who can muscle and hoof it are ten a penny but ones who look comfortable on the ball aren't.
Hughesy Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Article on Phil Jones...and abit about Robbo
Ricky Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Pretty sure Hughes takes the credit for moving the academy to the bottom of the hill. I'm sure when he came here the kids had better facilities than the seniors.
The Gull Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Read this article last night and thought Phil came across brilliantly. Big future should be ahead for this young man, good head on a talented body is a very good combination.
Majiball Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Pretty sure Hughes takes the credit for moving the academy to the bottom of the hill. I'm sure when he came here the kids had better facilities than the seniors. Tis true.
Hughesy Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Also interesting that Sam thinks Jones is captain material
Alex Rover Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 On the official texts from Kean that his knee injury "looks a nasty one, it may be long term" and "he may need an op". All the best Phil hopefully it's not that bad. The good news just keeps rolling in.
Bobby G Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Its been said he is out for 4-5 months which ends his season if true. On the bright side, no one will bid for him in January.
Roberto Policano Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Out for the rest of the season by the looks, thats a bad blow for you. Bright side no one bids for him in January. Its been said he is out for 4-5 months which ends his season if true. On the bright side, no one will bid for him in January. Great minds think a like.
RibbleValleyRover Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Big blow for the lad and the team. Hopefully it's not as bad as first feared and that he makes a full and speedy recovery.
Exiled_Rover Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 That's what happens when you make people play on frozen pitches. Tough luck to the lad, but he'll bounce back.
92er Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 According to a video connection with Kean suggested Jones is to have a scan tomorrow.Nothing definite yet?
Bobby G Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 He said it looks bad and its long-term. He said he will have an operation.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Awful news about Jones if the worst is confirmed. On a positive note, it will be good to see Hanley feature in more first team games. I wonder if the owners will invest more money in to the squad to replace a first team regular.
blue/white Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Its been said he is out for 4-5 months which ends his season if true. On the bright side, no one will bid for him in January. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!! That does it then, this MF'ing week cannot get any worse. Good luck w/ the Op Phil, get well soon lad as we'll all be waiting for you!
grizfoot Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 We looked rather vulnerable without him shielding the back four today I must say, which doesn't bode well for future game. Hope for a speedy recovery but he will obviously be a big miss.
whittle blue Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 That's what happens when you make people play on frozen pitches. ?????? It were cowd but pitch wern't frozen wur it Exiled?
sparkspakespoke Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 We looked rather vulnerable without him shielding the back four today I must say, which doesn't bode well for future game. Hope for a speedy recovery but he will obviously be a big miss. Agreed we are crying out for someone in the middle of the park to protect the back for, and if possible drive us foward. I know players like this are rare and expensive but we badly need someone there.
Bobby G Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Phil Jones is feeling very down according to Jason Roberts. Unlucky for the youngster. Lets hope he returns to be the same player and more.
Backroom DE. Posted December 19, 2010 Backroom Posted December 19, 2010 Gutted for Jones, but he'll be back, no question about that. It's a nasty one, but there are worse injuries out there that are much harder to recover from. From everything I've seen and heard he's got the right attitude and I'm sure he'll be alright. A shame we'll basically be playing the rest of the season without him, good both in his original position and as cover for our already weak midfield.
Steve Moss Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Bullet dodged. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Transfer-news-Chelsea-stall-on-15m-for-Blackburn-s-Phil-Jones-after-season-ending-knee-injury-article654417.html
USABlue Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 It's in the Mirror, must be true then. Call me cynical but I actually had a suspicion that by leaving him out on Saturday the Venks had asked for him to be wrapped in cotton wool in preparation for the window in January. Only Samba being injured forced our hand in to playing him. Anyway that is what I though as soon as I saw he was not in the team.
