[Archived] PETA ask JW to turn Venkys down

Recommended Posts

I figured this was probably big enough to get it's own thread (especially as there is little other news and I don't want PETA discussed in the main takeover thread).

Here is a link to the article that broke the story

http://www.asianage....ys-chicken-463?

Here is a link to the PETA website, so you can learn more about them

http://www.peta.org

and in the interest of balance, here is a Penn & Teller B*llsh*t episode devoted to them (warning, contains lots of swearing)

Remember, PETA aren't slow to bring about litigation, so don't say anything nasty about them you can't prove :D

Cruelty to chickens? Read an interesting article which established that people in the UK are more likely to call the police if they saw an animal being mistreated than a child, what does that say about us?

It means that we like reading interesting articles?

Seriously, though, I doubt that this article established anything. The article wil have been designed to catch and maintain your interest. I doubt there was any real attenpt to establish anything.

PETA's craziness only distracts from any good intentions they may have. Most people know that they are crazy, and that just gives them the perfect excuse to disregard any opinion that may hold parallel views to PETA at least in some aspects.

However, any confidence in the ethics of Venkys should be growing increasingly low by this point. It may be "just the way the world is", but it is precisely such choices that shape the world.

edit: completely unrelated to the above, but...ask who? John Williams? Unless I have gone insane, doesn't he have absolutely no say whatsoever in who the club gets sold to? He does not own anything, he is simply an employee.

Its not up to JW who the club are sold to, so perhaps they want to send another letter...this time to the trust members.

As for their business....it doesnt concern me, im only interested in what they have planned for Blackburn Rovers F.C.....leave them to their own devices with their own business which they have been running for decades.

Somebody has rightfully reminded me that PETA have a reputation of having some real "direct action" folks amongst their ranks (or acting under their name), which may be an additional consideration when you post.

Personally, I think they do more harm than good.

I find it funny how one of the heads of PETA says if we sell to them then it means that Blackburn Rovers is pro-animal cruelty. It's daft.

Although I think that a company with poor ethics taking over us is hardly good news. Whether this is really the case I obviously can't say.

Matches mine Bucky.

Everything I've seen says that they want to remove all interaction between people and other animals. Except the cats they keep around the office.

They are against animal testing, but their VP uses synthetic insulin.

They spend millions on preachy advertising while at the same time put down almost all of the animals that are surrendered to them.

I can't stand animal rights groups.

Unwashed scruffry tree hugging veggie swampy types then.

You should take a good, long look in the mirror before having a go at people with a conscience (even if they do go OTT with it sometimes).

And who the hell keeps +1 ing your idiotic comments?

I don't doubt for a second that Venkys treat chickens in a less than humane way, if you see it from an animal rights person's perspective. It's not that they are wrong, I just don't care enough for animals, I guess. The world isn't perfect, and I'm glad that people fight for animal rights. That being said - no Premiership club would be sold if the owner's were to make all their money by being nice to everyone and everything.. for someone to be rich, someone else needs to pay.

I've always thought there was a strange correlation between a - to me - exaggerated care for animals and a less-than-caring view on global humanitarian problems.. a tad unfair seeing as they are right - but still...

Bring this home NOW, please.
