They just featured on channel 4 and I would agree with your assessment Philip. Their opponents the UAF were a bunch of idiots as well it seemed though.

Showed a bunch of the EDL chanting 'Allah is a pedo' so witty. The police mentioned they were mainly made up of high risk football fans a lot of whom had been banned.

I saw that as well. Football hooligans and BNP members make up the majority of them, to be honest they make me ashamed to be English.

Nobody came out of that show with any credit though, the attitude of the police was disgusting. That fat ###### who said something like "typically UAF members are the sort who go to Glastonbury". He was one of those unfortunate people who marry being thick as pig ###### with a condescending attitude. Then a few of them made sly digs about "jobs...if they have jobs" to people on either side.

Whilst I appreciate the sentiment behind what the UAF do, I have no idea what they're hoping to achieve. The EDL have a right to voice their opinion, that's part of living in a free country. Inflaming the situation by counter-protesting just inflames the situation, especially when become a source of trouble at the events.

I'm amazed the police have let the programme go out. Especially as it shows cops saying they hope it kicks off for a bit of 'sport'.

You could tell some of them couldn't wait for an excuse to get stuck in, whilst some of them seemed to just go about their job the right way.

They did well to keep a lid on it though as it could have escalated badly

(The programme was about the protests in Bolton recently for those that didn't see it)

I'm surprised they let it go out in that state too. The show seemed to deliberately focus on those few coppers who were looking for an excuse to be heavy handed. I'm sure they could have balanced it out more by showing the more honest ones a bit more.

I haven't seen any of the other episodes, are they usually less than complimentary about the police? It was a weird documentary really.

Anyone watch coppers last night?

*groan*

Why have you linked to giffgaff in the same post?

I think it trys to show them as real people. I was uncomfortable at some aspects, but I think it would be impossible for every riot cop to be 100% placid and professional at all times.

Check out the other episodes on 4OD. The traffic cops one is especially gripping. Not afraid to show you what the scene of a road accident looks like.

Good to show what it's actually like on the front line, seemed like most of the aggro came from the UAF. There would have been carnage in the square had it not been for the troops, heavy handed approach ? cobblers. Hundreds of p1ssed EDL loonies and UAF cardigans trying to start a full scale riot and the police are supposed to ask them nicely to put the stick down ?

I personally cheered every arrest.

For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"

But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;

It was refreshing to see a police programme that didn't involve officers reciting the training handbook in front of the camera. I much prefer a copper who isn't afraid of a bit of aggro (and admit to liking it) rather than some skinny runt who is trying to put his 2:2 Law degree to some use.

The UAF are as idiotic as the EDL. They were originally a bunch of middle class do gooders who caused low scale distruption at every counter march they organise (albeit in retaliation to a BNP or EDL march). It must be noted that i am not an EDL or BNP member, far from it! However, the worrying aspect is the fact that many young men from ethnic minorties are "joining" the ranks of the UAF to cause MAJOR DISRUPTION and i believe one day the EDL and new "UAF" will clash and people will die!

I understand each groups views but they should never be in the same location as one another. What is achieved from this? Nothing but increased hatred and violence as the two groups try to "have it" with one another. Only one should be able to march at the same time - the police can and should deal with those attending a particular gathering. There is no need for a counter march in my opinion.

The EDL are a bunch of racist football hooligans but they try to cover this up by claiming that "black and white should unite" against the muslim culture that is "taking over" our country! However, the UAF cover up the fact they have an abundance of hardcore socialists and racists in their ranks who are out to cause as much violence as they can by claiming to be standing against fascists and white racists. Both talk a load of sh**e!!

Great to see Rovers fans chanting "EDL" at Old Trafford and also on the train back to Blackburn.

Proud to be a Rover eh...dry.gif

I do hope that the asian lads sat next to me weren't on the same train as these amoeba brains.
