try downloading ps3 media server and install it on your pc.....then set a file to share over your network with your film files(.mp4/.avi) and choose your network adapter in the settings. switch on your ps3 and restart program, and hey presto your now streaming movies over your network striaght to your ps3 without having to convert them. biggrin.gif

probably been dicussed already, but is there a way to view mkv movies on the ps3? ive downloaded a mkv to vob converter, but will this reduce the quality?

thanks

Depends on the mkv as that is just a container holding video and audio streams. But if you mean a 720p or 1080p mkv file technically you can convert to vob (mpeg2) and keep the full quality, the problem is the codec is not very efficient and therefore the resulting file would be massive (and it would take ages to convert). My guess is that as standard the program you have coverts to dvd type quality so yes, you would lose quality.

Technically you are converting them still though but on the fly. The PC is doing all the work and streaming that in a codec that the PS3 can play. You PC also has to be powerful enough to convert on the fly and the network signal (if wireless) strong enough as to not have stuttering.

Personally, I would use one of the many many dedicated media streamers out there that can natively handle mkv files (plus hundreds of other codecs) like the "mkv enclosure", xtreamer etc. They are pretty much all based on the same chipset so do them same thing. They can be bought for £60-£100 depending on their features. The cheapest ones only take external USB hard drives, the most expensive have ethernet, wireless, internal HDD's and USB.
