Amo Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Didn't West Ham's equalizer begin when Dunn was left on his arse? He's finished at this level and we've got to stop clinging to him. Speaking of 'clinging', it looked like he had a gut when he was leaving the pitch. That's ridiculous for a professional footballer.

broadsword Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 That's ignoring the shot from Upson that hit the post, the free header six yards out from Piquionne, and the shot from Cole after Dyer cut the ball back. Sounds like we had them on the rack.
Bobby G Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Wolves had a few minutes against us (in the first 10) where we were rattled. I dont recall ever feeling uncomfortable about conceding against them after that. As a supporter of Blackburn Rovers I have become used to WINNING games at home over the past two seasons. I have become accustomed to feeling confident and not feeling nervous. That has been the case for the majority of our home games at home including lately against some of the bigger sides in the division. Is that fair to say? Today that wasnt the case. No one expects Kean to do miracles over night, however the overall demeanor of the players (not saying they didnt try cause they gave 100%) tells me Sam did even a better job than some people thought to keep things going the way they were. Its going to be a tough job for whomever is in charge.
tony gale's mic Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 That's ignoring the shot from Upson that hit the post, the free header six yards out from Piquionne, and the shot from Cole after Dyer cut the ball back. And the last ditch defensive header from Hanley without which Parker wouldve scored. Comparisons with Wolves are stupid - yes they almost scored early on, but we controlled the game after that, scored 3 then took our foot off the gas majorly which meant they had a few chances. If people think that performance are better than our Wolves performance they are insane - but then it's the usual suspects with that "analysis" so it is par for the course I guess.
Commondore Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Poor game. I thought we played decent from time to time, but Benjani and Mame Diouf was completely non-threatening and smothered by a mediocre West Ham defense. If Kalinic indeed has more to show us, now is the time to do it... Kean obviously couldn't change much in the short time he has had to prepare, but there were shades of improvement to our game. We played with a higher defensive line , cut down on the aimless hoofing (even if it was still there), used the corridors a lot and we seemed solid enough defensively until the midfield went AWOL in the second half. I'm hoping for a new 4-4-2 against Stoke, with Kalinic and at least one of Hoilett and Olsson on the field.
Exiled in Toronto Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 That's ignoring the shot from Upson that hit the post, the free header six yards out from Piquionne, and the shot from Cole after Dyer cut the ball back. You're right - Wolves had nothing like that many efforts! Upson's shot was a reaction shinning, the free header was because MGP was fouled and Jones did his knee ensuring Cole couldn't get time and space. 2 half chances and a clear foul. Hardly a skinning though, was it?
Bobby G Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I think we dont have the players for central midfield in a 4-4-2, unless Jones goes back in to sit. That's a reality. We are not GOOD ENOUGH to pull it off and get results.
Amo Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 This team has been indoctrinated to play a certain way for over two years, week in, week out, and people expect that to change overnight? There were improvements to be seen in our play but it's going to take some time for any manager to make his impact.

Upson's shot was a reaction shinning, the free header was because MGP was fouled and Jones did his knee ensuring Cole couldn't get time and space. 2 half chances and a clear foul. Hardly a skinning though, was it? The vast majority of Wolves' chances came after we were 3-0 up, apart from the first five minutes or so. Can you not see the fundamental difference?

I completely agree, but with the table and the league the way it is, it could be like playing with fire and getting burnt at the end. That's the whole point.

Don't they teach you to read in med school? No-one said the performance was betetr than against Wolves. I was countering the view that we were a defensive shambles, which we clearly weren't. OT was a defensive shambles.

There were improvements to be seen in our play but it's going to take some time for any manager to make his impact. "Indoctrinated" This team was "indoctrinated" in such a way that since the start of last season uptil before this game, they'd won 11 and drawn 3 out of 14 games against bottom half opposition at home. No one in their right mind would want this to change overnight. It isn't just what keeps us in the league, it's what sends us fairly high up it.
Shabani Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Phil Jones out for 4-5 months (Please don't use that word again) (Please don't use that word again) (Please don't use that word again) (Please don't use that word again)

Bobby G Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Oh my. What a big blow. Huge blow. That's his season over.
broadsword Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Phil Jones out for 4-5 months (Please don't use that word again) (Please don't use that word again) (Please don't use that word again) (Please don't use that word again) Oh Jesus, that is seriously seriously bad news. January will be interesting.
tony gale's mic Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Don't they teach you to read in med school? No-one said the performance was betetr than against Wolves. I was countering the view that we were a defensive shambles, which we clearly weren't. OT was a defensive shambles. Only a sad, small minded man like yourself would continually try and use the fact I'm a doctor to make insults against me. They didn't teach me to read in med school, since they only accepted the very highest achievers I'm pretty sure I needed to read before I got in. We were a shambles everywhere. We were playing the bottom team in the league, at home, and were lucky to come away with a point.
LeChuck Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Phil Jones out for 4-5 months (Please don't use that word again) (Please don't use that word again) (Please don't use that word again) (Please don't use that word again) Gutted personally for the lad, I hope it's not a recurring problem. I don't think it affects us that much though, he's a substitute in our strongest team.
Bobby G Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 So Robinson pulling out three stunning saves in front of the Darwen End didn't make you feel uncomfortable? H'ok. Remind me what the score was at the time.

We are not GOOD ENOUGH to pull it off and get results. It worked fine (considering the circumstances) until Emerton, E.H Diouf and Dunn slacked off in the second half.
Exiled_Rover Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Remind me what the score was at the time. Stop moving the goal posts. You said you were never uncomfortable about Rovers conceding against Wolves. Clearly you either didn't watch the game, or you have the utmost confidence in Robinson pulling out saves from the very top drawer.
King Kenny's Magic Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 And the last ditch defensive header from Hanley without which Parker wouldve scored. If people think that was better than the Wolves game then they are more deluded than Audley Harrison. Wake up and smell the coffee, you're worse than Gerald Jackson for positive spin. They tried to pass the ball about but were shocking. Hopefully the "Football specialist" Bilaji will come to the rescue

Clearly you either didn't watch the game, or you have the utmost confidence in Robinson pulling out saves from the very top drawer. Read what I said. I said after the initial start to the game we were comfortable. If sitting back at 3-0 and inviting pressure causes you discomfort then I wonder what you were feeling in the last few minutes today.
