The Guardian points to a massive row between Sam and the Rao family being the catalyst for his departure:

Interesting stuff.

Obvious to a blind man on a galloping horse that a manager of Sam's standing neither would nor could take advice on football matters from some middle aged woman in a sari 7000 miles away whose knowledge of football is limited to buying a Man U shirt from some street trader for a couple of quid for some infant male relative.

Two top 5 premiership finishes and enjoyable football.

That was done with no money, was it?

I kept the question brief because I thought it was blatantly obvious given the context. I guess I'll have to try again;

On what are you basing your judgement that Jol would be better than Alardyce with no money to spend?

To be fair I'd much rather have Jol with no money than Sam with no money.

Jol's just left Ajax after a string of bad results. Given the Dutch league is like the Scottish Prem in quality how does your opinion stand now? Would you want a Celtic / Rangers manager here that had resigned after steering them to 4th place in their division?

If we're going to go into the whole Jol only did well as he had money, I remember a certain Sam with money failing to set the world alight at Newcastle. Secondly why would I prefer a penniless Jol over a penniless Sam? Simple I would get to see a better quality of football. With a peniless Jol our league position may not differ to Sam's but atleast I wont feel like slitting my wrists at away games.

Not true at all Gordon. It's been 7 seasons now since Ajax last won the Dutch league. They are in no way dominant on a Rangers/Celtic level. Not even close.

The Dutch league is far better than Scotland.

Still bemused as much as people resented our manager he got results and saved us from relegation in his 1st season. When players and people like SAF speak highly of him then to me that as to be respected no matter what fans opinions are of his style of play. We are in a results business end of and having had no money for at least 2 tranfer windows for me he did a great job. Yes we have new owners with different ideas but who's to say a big name manager will make us a better team!! Just listen to Ryan Nelsen on radio 5, Jason Roberts (who had his differences with him) on SSN and read MGO's own blog to realise how much the players liked him. I for 1 have never called him regardless of his style of play and from this day onwards never will do for what he as done for our football club!!!

If they think bringing in that fat, Argentinian, twit would be good for the club and a genuine possibility, they have well and truly lost the plot.

I'm speechless. :(

Hey now..... easy on the 'argentinian' as prejorative, ok? That he's a fat, hot mess of a car wreck it IS unquestioned. But I think this forum is better than going taking the easy route.

I don't know how you can say that - with the best player in the world in his team - and two of the best strikers playing Europe he managed to ..... hmmm yes I see where you are going with this.

No positive head on - he never had a team to manage with the midfield powerhouse that is Super Keith - or the finishing prowess of Roberts ..... hmmmm

To be honest it will all depend on what his role was - and who was brought in to support him. He would without doubt give us a huge profile boost - but he would also need the funds to back this up. A very high risk strategy as we don't have the income to cover a vast increase in the wage bill - unless they are taken on as Venky's employees rather than Rovers.

THERE is a basis for what Philip wrote. Maradona took over at Mandiyu Athletic or whatever it was called. He promptly took them dowm to the second division and they promptly folded... yes, disappeared. During his next job he almost pulled the same act on Racing Club of Avellaneda -- a top 5 club (historically). Only thing that prevented it was getting the sack. I fear that this could backfire on the Chicken folks. seriously

Truly disappointed in the sacking of Big Sam. He pulled us out of the mud, and deserved his chance with an actual transferbudget..

That being said, I will reserve my judgement on Venky's until I see who the new manager is..

IF, they haven't already decided - FAILURE

IF, they appoint Maradona in anything but a mascot role - FAILURE

IF, they aim lower than the likes of Martin O'Neill, Martin Jol etc - FAILURE

IF, they pull in a foreign ex-star player with no special managerial experience - FAILURE

IF, they cause John Williams to leave the club - FAILRE

So, the outcome is yet unclear...Please nicko, keep us posted during this nervous appointment period

What's going on at our club? :(

when i mentioned my concern with Kentaro and Jerome Andersen, people were having a go at me. now reality has set in, and we see nonsense like this. those who didnt like Sam, well hope you guys are happy at the possible departure of JW as well. All this, because people feel the need for entertainment, over hard work and determination and ultimately a solid season. This was the season to consolidate our pl status, and after that push on to better things. the football world has gone mad

This article is one of several I've read which puts the sacking decision in the context of Sam refusing to accept the players recommended by Kentaro and instead wanting to sign players like Bentley, Keane,N'Zogbia, Osvaldo and the like.

What I can't understand is---what is the point of paying a fortune (I assume) to get publicity from hiring a big name like Maradonna to give us world-wide exposure and then give him rubbish players like Kris Boyd and Giovanni?

Quite apart from the issue of whether Maradonna is up to the job or not (and I think not) any positive would instantly be wiped out when everyone sees the poor quality of the new players.

Bottom line is, if Venkys can only afford rubbish players then it doesn't matter how much money is wasted on a manager like Maradonna, the only outcome would be relegation and the loss of Venky's considerable investment.

On any level it does not make any sense at all.

http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/keane-pursuit-a-factor-in-allardyce-sacking-2459493.html?

Finally what sort of manager would be willing to accept incompetence like this forced on him? A rotten one is the answer. Hoping that this is all wrong and sanity prevails.

Why would an Irish paper get any more news on this than any of the English media. That article also reads a lot like the last few dozen pages of this and other threads on here!

Furthermore, Fergies opinion on the whole matter saga should be taken with a few rather large truck loads of salt! He's Sams best mate in football and any new Rovers boss will be less likely to roll over at Old Trafford in future!

The same article has been syndicated everywhere. Its word for word (almost) as in the Sun. It doesn't matter where it came from, its the content that worries me. Also at no point did I raise Fergie's objections, everybody knows they are old mates. The issue is the players Sam was apparently being asked to accept as compared to the ones he wanted. What's the point of paying 54m for a club, talking about using it as a vehicle to expand your core business world-wide and then foisting players like Boyd and Giovanni on it?

Doesn't make sense. Do you think it makes sense?

The Fergie point wasn't directed at you, I was just getting ###### of with everyone using his opinion to back up their view point when he's as biased as they come in this case.

Secondly I don't think it makes sense, which is mainly why I'm happy to wait and see what the future brings before taking it as gospel. Why blow 54 million to make your company look like a complete joke on a global scale?
