I'm far from Allardyce's biggest fan - but I'm a little worried at how soon into Venky's reign this has happened.

Remember when Hughes come in a dumped Parkes! No sentiment, they mean business - I like big Sam and feel sorry for him but he will be going with a suitcase full of wonga too remeber!

Wow!

I've never been a big fan of Allardyce but dont know what to think about this.

Its a risky move at this stage of the season, despite all his faults and style of football Sam would pretty much guarantee staying in the Prem. In one way maybe its a good sign that the new owners see our future as being better than just staying up - its just the timing that worries me a bit. I suppose whoever comes in will have the opportunity to get their own targets in the Jan window.

Not sure what went wrong for him to go so quick, but looking back over the season we've had some decent results but also some real horror shows as well - maybe that's what the board have seen enough of. Spurs and Utd away spring to mind and there are others too, but TBH Bolton yesterday was similar (despite not conceding a hatful of goals) and couldnt have helped his cause. Going 1 down against 10 men, getting back into it and immediately throwing it away again isn't really good enough and these kind of incidents seem to be following a pattern.

I'm shocked but more cautious for the future than disappointed he's gone.

Got to say I'm disappointed by this.

I reckon Sam has done a cracking job under the circumstances. Let's not kid ourselves, he's had to work under some terrible conditions – namely no investment whatsoever – and I think he's worked miracles.

A lot of other managers would have taken us down but Sam dug deep and did the best with what he had.

I'm sorry to see him go but I guess the owners have some big plans up their (or Kantaro's sleeves).

I hope they get things right.

If we don't appoint someone before Saturday, I predict three points to Wham.

awful news.

Seems evil. Sam has had to put up w/ many windows scraping by w/o significant additions to the squard sheet & now when there appears to be a light at the end of the tunnel he gets 'whacked' by the chicken folks. gobsmacked, really.

*shakes head* this is not good.... even worse after spending the past two weeks laughing at the Geordies........what a silly thing to do considering the upcoming 5 or so fixtures. daft.

Thanks for everything Sam, best of luck to you, man

We have taken this decision as part of our wider plans and ambitions for the club.

What on Earth is that comment mean't to mean ^

Who has that come from John Williams or Venky's???

Who's next then for the chop in this bright new era Venkys have for us Williams himself????

Agree or disagree, the timing is terrible.

We are in the midst of a run of games that will realistically return valuable easy'ish points (e.g. WHAM) which we need to make us safe this year. Even if G*d himself walks into the dressing room the players will be so down that we stand a real chance of blowing these winnable matches.

I stand to be corrected but if timing is everything in this life then we haven't got it.

This was always in the wind though, I said last match against Wolves that if Sam lost then Venky's wouldn't let him spend their money in the transfer window. Turns out the firing was at first loss after all. On this occasion I'm not happy to have been right.

No doubt multiple forum members will be jumping around in joy at this annoucement. I just hope it isn't a case of not knowing how good you've got it. The new owners made it clear they wanted the team to play "attractive football" and in that sense the announcement might not be such a big suprise, maybe the timing of it is during a part of the season where we can really kick-on. I await with interest who we've got lined-up to come in (presumably we have somebody lined-up) before I can make a proper judgement on this decision.

For all Big Sam's haters out there he did a great job here and without him I firmly believe we may not even be a Premier League club right now. His style of play was mostly negative and unattractive but it did get the results when we needed them most.
