I can only repeat what the statement says - and it was a wild rumour I picked up a while back - Steve Kean will be in charge of the team for the time being.

I think he is admired. I don't think he is on trial.

If results are good it will justify his position. If not I would expect to see him still being involved.

Nicko , are you suggesting that Steve Kean may actually get the job on a permanant basis?

i'm not sure how this matches the "wider plans and ambitions for the club" , but there seems to be a lot of claim and counter claim about the club at the moment , in one breath somebody is pushing Geovanni and Boyd and in the next they're saying they want to be in top 5 in the league !!

You still wouldn't vote "given him a bit more time" if you were in favour of him being sacked, that doesn't make any sense.

I dunno - I nearly said "give him some more time" because I felt a bit sorry for him, like.

But then I pinched myself and was reminded of the tactical and verbal sewage he has delivered on a weekly basis.

This site has around 50 regular posters and 150 day trippers when we have a sacking, hardy a cross section of 20k+ supporters! Both sky and talk sport had 1 in 5 people disgusted at his departure, speaks volumes.

Not wanting to keep repeating myself, but the football is worse than the end of last season, that’s what I’m basing my theory on, oh yes and the disgusting ‘beaten before we play attitude’ towards away matches.

Can’t make it any clearer than that.

The 372 people vote is the most reliable thing we have to go on, Sky can cherry pick whatever they want to put on TV (I don't for a minute think you'd trust Sky over a poll on here if you weren't arguing with me!).

7 points away from home this year, 4 points last year.

I give up after that. Just don't keep putting things like "blind man on a galloping horse" when they only thing you have to back up your claim is your opinion on the quality of football, there isn't a single statistic to support you.

Fair enough if you think we've gone backward, but without stats you can't be so rude in forcing that across.

Which bit of Gav repeatedly saying we have gone backwards SINCE THE BACK END OF LAST SEASON are you struggling with? Comparisons to the front end of last season don't really invalidate his point.

It's still HIS OPINION and not fact.

It is Steve Kean's job at the moment. That is what the statement says. And it also suggests they would be happy if it carried on like that for two months.

There is no doubt that 'sexy' names are being considered - maybe even approached - but that may for a new role.

If Kean wins his first few games he makes the whole job easier for all concerned.

If he doesn't then it's a rush to get the 'sexy' face in.

Hardly representative either but I follow 30+ Rovers fans on Twitter and only ONE is happy with this decision. The point is surely that you keep him at least until the end of the season, say thank you very much and build from there. Sacking a man who would've kept us up is a massive risk to take.

Okay, I missed the 'end of' bit.

I don't know how I'd go about comparing this season's 17 games to the last 17 games of last season (it was hard enough finding a December 09 table) so I'll leave it at that.

It was the way it was written that got me, it's easy to argue that we haven't gone backwards. I don't mind if he thinks that (I'm sure other people do), but the implication was that anybody who didn't think it was missing something obvious, which took the ###### a bit.

Compare each game this season against the same one last season.

I voted to give him more time. But I didn't want his contract renewed. I assume I'm not the only one

No you're not. The manner and the timing of his departure may leave a lot to be desired but I wasn't surprised by the fact. And I can understand the go now atitude to some extent. Nobody can work with the axe hanging over them and it certainly was over Allardyce. He was never going to be in the long term plans of an owner wanting an exciting product. He'd have been doing the job, knowing that he was going very soon and a run of defeats or just poor performances could have seen him on his way at any point. What incentive is there to do a really good job there other than your own pride in your professionalism? I'm not happy there's not a new manager lined up to be an immediate replacement and boost. I'm not happy that there is a very real possibility that our chairman and secretary may also be on their way. I'm not even happy that allardyce has gone. However, I refuse to do kneejerk and will try to keep an open mind until and if it all goes wrong.

last 17 games of last season we earned 29 points

first 17 games of this season we earned 21 points

cue the arguments of them containing different games, our injuries being worse etc etc i was just giving the points totals for you lol

No point arguing with GAV.

The man wants a fat ex cokehead to manage us who struggled to get an Argentina side with maybe the finest attacking talent in the world to the World Cup Finals.

He's also adamant, by some mysterious portal into the minds of our owners, that Sam's sacking was down to tactics rather than the transfer/Kentaro issues which had been documented by numerous sources both before and after Sam's sacking.

Finally, he's claiming that most Rovers fans want this sacking. Despite the poll on this forum and the poll on the LET website. Maybe the majority of Newcastle fans were happy with Pardews appointment too!

Everyone i spoke to last night was over the moon with the sacking. It is just the timing of it that i find strange.

So out of 12 people i have spoken to 12 wanted him to go. Thats 100%. Thats my poll and is probably the most accurate one around.

Err...cheers Mark!

I forgot how good our end of season run-in was. If that is stretched out over a 38 game season, we'd get roughly 65 points (usually 5th/6th place). Very unrealistic to expect that pace to kept up this season.

Plus injuries, games etc as you say. ;)

Ditto

My view was wait till summer (we know he would keep us safe) and then wipe the slate clean...let those out of contract go (Roberts, Brown, Benjani, Chimbonda etc) and let a new manager have longer to prepare 'his' side.

You know Maradona met Germany who was the second best team in this years WC.

How can you have a go a Gav for stating its down to tactics which comes from the horses mouth verses your "rumours" which make no sense after they stated to trust them and they want to finish 4th or higher. They know who the top 5 teams are and they have great players, they are they are not that stupid, they didn't get rich being stupid.

They want entertaining football, Sam does not offer them that, so they wants their own man.

There is currently no evidence about the transfer issues, I agree with Gav that Sam was sacked because he's boring.

I like Sam a lot BTW but he is boring, it works for him. He will proably go to Burnley make them boring and do very well and get in the PL.

comparing things is always gonna lead to other things, some can say that says we havent improved this season on the end of last season.

but you can also say 2010, was a better year under sam than 2009 was and that suggests we was improving.

technically we could be here forever lol :P

NICKO What happens in the transfer window ?.

Is he allowed to buy players ?. or are we only allowed Kentaro players.

Good question. I don't think Kean would be buying the players. The new regime will do that. To be fair, I don't think they would have to be Kentaro players - but Kentaro will be making the big decisions on who comes and goes.
