booth Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 While O'Neill can play some direct football, I feel that he always directs it more to the wings than central. Which, of course, leads to more wing play. Lets not ignore the fact that he had the idea to move Milner central, and change Ashely Young to a winger. Both paid dividends to the club. That's true of course, I remember at Leicester he did an interview and he was raving on about wing play. Would still like someone a bit more exciting though, if Venky's really are ambitious about us being a top 5 club.

AJW Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 One thing I don't understand: Why are only managers currently unemployed considered as candidates? If it turns out Steve Kean doesn't deliver (got a feeling he will though...) - remember Bolton last year? They managed to get Coyle - whats to say our new owners won't be able to offer someone already employed by another club a better deal? Lots and lots of clubs in dire financial trouble as far as I know. Won't bring up any names - just my two cents..... process takes longer , messier and more expensive but it shouldnt be ruled out
mckenny16 Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I must admit, I'm starting to really think about the comments made by Venkys. They want a manager that can get us Top 5, British and will play attractive football. When considering any and every British manager who would fit that criteria, the list does come up short: SAF Harry Rednapp David Moyes Mark Hughes Martin O'Neill Are really a list that have come close in recent years. Feel free to add those who have missed my simple mind. Below them we could say the likes of McClesh, Hodgson or Bruce. Craig Brown has just quit his job! After that, we're looking into the Championship. While there are a number of up and coming managers, there is no proof or reliable evidence that they can work at the top level of the Premiership. I'm talking about the likes of Grayson or Lambert. I know I keep coming back to the same point, but I cannot see past Martin O'Neill as someone who fits the criteria that Venkys are currently saying.
John Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 According to many, Martin O'Neill team's do not play attractive football.
The Rover of Finland Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I always thought Sparky got it but just suffered lack of finance when Rovers had every chance to take a next big step. Maybe it just me but it feels like he has been very invisible at Fulham.

RibbleValleyRover Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 O'Neill doesn't fit the criteria at all, especially the major one about football being more attractive. Keep in mind also this is the same man who walked away from a club because he wasn't getting what he wanted, do you honestly think he could work under the condition of Kentaro having a major say in any future transfer dealings? I'm beginning to think the whole “we want to have a British manager, top 5 aspirations, play nice football” has to be a smokescreen. There isn't anyone out there that would meet all of these key points and at the same time would be willing to come here.
brian_gallagher85 Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 O'Neill is also a complete dick who will run as soon as funds are withheld, just have a look at what happened at Villa! He's a coward. You'd need to ask someone from Northern Ireland what they have written on their passport... MON is currently the best of the bunch as far as I'm concerned. O'Neill will more than likely have a UK passport as he played for Northern Ireland, doesn't mean he hasn't since got an Irish one...to make border control passage much easier He is Irish either way as your UK passport reads....The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
chaddyrovers Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I think the New Owners will appointed Dave Jones as manager. If he is part of Kentaro group, they will be pushing his name. I would want either:- Martin Jol, Steve McClaren or Slaven Bilic.

brian_gallagher85 Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Please can we stay on topic, this thread is crazy enough without bringing up more @#/? like this that has been done to death!
Rovers_Dan Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 we need some fake tans in the dugout to spice ewood up a bit, so for me either Tim Sherwood or Phil Brown should get the job.
modes98 Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I think the New Owners will appointed Dave Jones as manager. If he is part of Kentaro group, they will be pushing his name. There are a few that are on Kentaro's books including Jol and Kean. So it could be any of them that they decide to push. Edit: Oddschecker showing Kean now as the Fav. Guess the main part of the Interview is the next few games.
booth Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 why don't you just come out and say it, your thinking Maradona Your location is correct, you really are not on this planet That's a no, Maradona would be mental.
Steve Moss Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 If you take out all the non-British managers, we're pretty much left with: Holloway Phil Brown O'Neill Curbishley Shearer Additional: Chris Hughton Don't forget: Bob Houghton- manager of the Indian national team. Steve McClaren- better than Jol. Stuart Pearce- England U21 manager.
accyrover Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Here's my two'penneth..... Of the non-British managers : Maradonna - Dear God No ! Would be entertaining and would certainly fit Venky's profile of a superstar name to catapult us up the viewing rankings across the globe. Perhaps we could fill the dug out with pampas Grass and Llama's to help him feel at home. Bring Tevez, Riquelme and Messi and I'll pick him up from the airport myself. Rijkaard - good should but unpredictable. Not broken many pots recently. Big Phil Scolari - disaster at Chelsea. Not up to the day to day hum-drum of club management inmho. Jol - yes please. Did great at Spuds until the board had an embelism and sacked him. Eriksson - No. Too unpredicatable. Would be off at the drop of a pair of knickers. Bilic - Untried at club level. Could be good. Of the British managers: MON - Father Ted ! ah go on, go on, go on........too boring. Would baulk at the first sign of a closed wallet. Curbishly - Took Charlton down and would do the same to us. Awful. Harry Redknapp - Venky's dont have enough money to tempt him north of the M25. Would have a nose bleed at this altitude. David Moyes - yes please. Might leave Everton, but Rovers would be seen as a step down in club standings. Unlikely. Woy Hodgson - probabaly remembers how to get to Ewood. had a good season at Fulham, now showing his true colours at an uninspiring Liverpool. Hughes - wouldn't come back. Dave Jones - careful now. No, I won't say it. Stay away. Holloway - would be a rollercoaster. And mad. The Indian national manger bloke - who ? Stuart Pearce - we'd end up with 6 in midfield. Keegan - past it. Dalglish - enjoys his golf too much, and out of touch with the current game. Venables - see Dalglish. I reckon it will be El Tel if they throw enough cash at him. I fear for the club, I really do. Lets get Foghorn Leghorn in and be done with it. Accyrover

jim mk2 Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I fear for the club, I really do. Lets get Foghorn Leghorn in and be done with it. Accyrover Looking at that motley crew makes the sacking of Sam Allardyce even more inexplicable. None are guaranteed to do better. .

greggyk Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Curbishley did not take Charlton down at all...he left at the end of a season they finished around 10th...Was doing a great job at West Ham too untill their new owners crazily got rid..look at them now. A worthy candidate
accyrover Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 David Moyes pls They probabaly think they can get Alex Ferguson on loan....... Di*kheads. Accyrover
pick32 Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 i see alan shearer 8/1 and tim flowers is in at 16/1 on skybet. No sign of tugay, hendry or berg just yet but watch this space.

I would'nt be surprise at all!!! Could be Hollway or Di Matteo or Sven Goran Eriksson or Steve McClaren tho!!! Key line in the sky sports page is:- Rao has confirmed the club has spoken to another chairman about who they want to replace Allardyce, although he insists they need more time to finalise the situation.
