After reading this it seems like the new manager isnt unemployed, and there my guess would be Dave Jones.

I read it like that the first time but then I wondered if he meant he had spoken to our chairman who is there (at the club). Would be interesting to hear the interview.

If it is Dave Jones then we may as well pack it in now, waste of everyone's time and effort.

i see alan shearer 8/1 and tim flowers is in at 16/1 on skybet. No sign of tugay, hendry or berg just yet but watch this space.

That would be one hell of a leap for Flowers – from Stafford Rangers to Rovers.

No way that's happening.

Martin O'Neill would be my first choice. An excellent manager. Good motivator, can work on a budget. The disdain that he is held in is typical of the short memories of modern football fans. Short of some dissatisfied voices from the Villa fans in the last 6 months of his reign, he was widely accepted to be doing a good job there. Look at them now and you can clearly see he was doing a good job. As far as the "long ball" accusations go, Sam and O'Neill's tactics are apples and oranges. Sam played percentage football, hoofing it up, trying to turn the opposition midfielders and play all our football in the final third. O'Neill played direct, counter attacking stuff using players with excellent long range passing (at which Petrov is as good as anybody), and wingers with blistering pace as the outlets. It's entertaining stuff when it's done right.

He did a brilliant job at Leicester and C_ltic, playing some fantastic stuff at the latter. Yes, he spent money at Villa and not all of the signings worked out, but even Sir Alex has a Djemba Djemba in his closet. Spending money perfectly is the hardest thing for any manager to do.

Not so long ago he was amongst the favourites to manage England and Manchester United. There's many managers out there that are currently well respected, but have been through times that damaged their reputation. Ian Holloway was relegated from the Championship with Leicester City. Tony Pulis was sacked by Portsmouth and was out of work for a long time afterwards. Alex McLeish was sacked by Rangers, Mark Hughes by Man City. All have managed to perform excellently in the Premier League either consistently in the past or this season.

O'Neill would be another safe pair of hands, but with the added ability to take us further than 10th place. He would be a marked step up on Sam, and a big enough personality to attract better players than we currently have. Sign him up Venkys.

They got shot of Sam because they want someone young and energetic.

Immediately rules out Jones, Curbishley.

They preferably want someone British and they want a big name. Paul Lambert would be good, but not a big name. Why give it to Kean full-time when he isn't a big name? Unless he's a yes man.

And why bin Sam and then spend 2 months looking for a successor? They've had two months already to have someone in mind, or at least a short-list. And firing Allardyce wasn't a spur of the moment thing.

In short, I'm totally baffled by the whole thing, and it smells of a right cock-up.

venkatesh rao was just on the phone to radio lancashire and he told them "bear with us the process could take a couple of month's"

but yet today he told the bee that he had the target lined up?

What about that Bob Houghton? Managing the Indian national team, said he would review his position as manager after the Asian Cup, which is in 2 months time I believe. I hope that is just coincidence.

Houghton is 63 according to Wiki, so not a young dynamic manager.

Bob

But given the mixed statements coming out of our illustrious owner's gobs, who knows ?????

Rao's interview for Sky

Quote : "We've not got anything against anybody. This is just to improve the club and go forward," he told 107 The Bee.

"There's nothing against Mr Sam, all the best to him. This is basically to improve the management and the club."

Thats cleared that up. Hope 'Mr Sam' feels better. Go and make the tea, there's a good chap.

Sorry.

I was told by a usually reliable source (its not hard to guess who) when Ince was about to get the bullet that Dave Jones would likely be in the running to replace him. This was because John Williams is from Southampton and a Saints fan, and holds Jones in very high regard. It could just be possible that Venkys are trying to bring in a manager that JW would be appeased by and happy to work with.

All things being equal I wouldn't want Jones, but if the above has any truth in it then it might just be worth looking at.

Oh my God how Sh1t Must Shah and Syed be if Venkys were deemed more clued up than them!

"It could take 2 months"?.....Well sack Sam in 2 months then.

"We have someone in mind"......Make your mind up.

"We want attractive Football".....Get your cheque book out and be ready to spend 50M+.

SHAMBLES

Do you think Sam would have not been able to work out what was going on when they said "no money"?

Would that have been beneficial to results?

We haven't even played a game yet. We coped without Sam when he was ill (we won away ffs!).

Hughes is down at 16/1 now with Sky, could he be a returning ?

I wouldn't use the betting market as a serious indicator of anything at the moment.

People will just be using any clues that they can get to try and figure it out and the bookies will want to protect themselves.

The Rao's have said that they want some British, so that means that the price will drop on all of the usual British suspects, I very much doubt that it is big money coming from anyone with good info.
